Coir Mattresses - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Layout

Coir fibres are extracted from the husks surrounding the coconut. It is a common experience that fibres detached from the coconut skin are quite hard to break by simple tension, hence by pulling from both sides. Excellent properties of resistance to wear and easy availability in countries, where coconut palms are widespread, have allowed coir to be employed for a variety of uses, e.g., for manufacturing toys, bags and carpets. Coir is popularly known as the golden FIBRE. It is extracted from the fibrous husk of the coconut shell. Coconut husk is a residue from coconut production, comprising approximately 30 wt. % coir fibres and 70 wt. % coir pith. It is used to manufacture a wide range of products such as ropes, mats, mattresses, baskets, brushes and brooms. Around 50 per cent of the coconut husk is used for making coir. Mixture of coir fibre and latex is steam heated, pressed and vulcanized to produce mattresses. Types & Structure of Coir Fibre There are two main types of coir fibre first is Brown Coir, from fully ripened coconut husks; strong and resistant to abrasion, it is used in brushes, floor mats, and upholstery padding and White Coir, from husks of coconuts harvested just before they ripen; softer and less strong, it is spun into yarn, used for ropes and mats. Uses and Applications A small amount is also made into twine. Pads of curled brown coir fibre, made by needle felting (a machine technique that mats the fibres together) are shaped and cut to fill mattresses and for use in erosion control on river banks and hillsides. A major proportion of brown coir pads are sprayed with rubber latex which bonds the fibres together (rubberized coir) to be used as upholstery padding for the automobile industry in Europe. The material is also used for insulation and packaging. The major use of white coir is in rope manufacture. Mats of woven coir fibre are made from the finer grades of bristle and white fibre using hand or mechanical looms. Coir is recommended as substitute for milled peat moss because it is free of bacterial and fungal spores. White coir also used to make fishing nets due to its strong resilience to salt water. In horticulture, coir is a strongly recommended substitute for sphagnum moss because it is free of bacterial and fungal spores, and produces good results without the environmental damage caused by peat mining. Coir is also useful to deter snails from delicate plantings. Coir is also used as a growing media in intensive glasshouse horticulture. Advantages of Rubberized Coir Mattresses A coir mattress is typically made similarly to other synthetic core mattresses. Coir mattresses will usually have layers of coir fibers finished with quilting or cloth cover on both sides. Advantages of rubberized coir mattresses are: Coir's moisture reducing and ventilation abilities give coir mattress the feel of a cool sensation and relaxation, Coir has natural springy quality coir which makes it very supportive, Coir is a hygroscopic material and hence is absorbs moisture from the air. It generally retains 8 to 10% moisture. This gives the cool sensation in the coir mattress, Coir is naturally anti dust mite which means it is perfect for all allergy sufferers, there are no adverse impacts on the environment and no harmful chemicals are used in making of a rubberized coir mattress. The factory does not emit any pollutants and rubberized coir mattresses are eco friendly, Coir being a natural product is Flame Retardant, etc.

Coir Geotextiles - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Layout

Coir as a natural organic product is organically biodegradable. The Fiber is hard and strong and decomposes slowly, making it perfectly suited for use in Geotextiles. Coir Geotextiles provide good support on slopes for about five years and there is no need for post-installation work. Coir Geotextiles is developed by the Coir Board of India. The world has today accepted Coir Geotextiles and acknowledges its effectiveness. Coir Geotextiles, used in many kinds of applications like Slope Stabilisation, Controlling Soil Erosion, Road and Rail Embarkments, River Embarkments, Landscape Areas etc., Coir geotextiles with its Indianised connotation "Coir Bhoovastra", a generic member of the geosynthetic family, are made from the coconut fibre extracted from the husk of the coconut fruit as explained in the following section. Like their polymeric counter parts, coir geotextiles can be synthesised for specific applications in geotechnical engineering practice. Coir geotextiles is not a consumer product, but a technology based product. A range of different mesh matting is available, meeting varying requirements. Coir fibres can be converted into fabric both by woven and non-woven process. Coir mesh matting of different mesh sizes is the most established coir geotextiles. Mesh matting having different specifications is available under quality code numbers H2Ml to H2MIO. These qualities represent coir geotextiles of different mesh sizes ranging from 3.175mm to 25.4mm. Several types of non-woven geotextiles also exist. Most of the non-woven mats are made from loose fibres, which are interlocked by needling or rubberising. Non-woven geotextiles are available in several dimensions and have a minimum thickness of 2mm. Coir geotextiles can be used to stabilize the soil temporarily when construction roads or banks. Coir geotextiles are being used as a separation cum drainage layer in the road. It is also intended to serve as a reinforcement material in the beginning of the project. Geo-synthetics are widely used in the construction of road all over the world, whereas use of coir geotextiles is very limited in such construction. Coir Industry

Coir or coconut fibre, is a natural fibre extracted from the husk of coconut and used in products such as floor mats, doormats, brushes and mattresses. Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. The coir industry forms major segment of village and small industries sector in terms of production and employment. The spectrum of industries in India extends from the organised large and medium industries, small scale industries to new industrial ventures and unorganised traditional industries. The coir industry is –very important in the national context because of the large volume of employment that it provides in rural area to the economically weaker section of the population. The growing demand for eco-friendly products in the market is where coir should fast step in. It is a lightweight, soilless growing medium made from the fibers which are found between a ripe coconut's shell and an outer surface. As it’s a material that occurs in nature, it’s completely renewable and is therefore considered an excellent choice for environmental sustainability. Mainly the coastal region of India, produces around 60% of the total world supply of white coir fiber, whereas Sri Lanka produces around 36% of the total world brown fiber output. Over 50% of the coir produced annually throughout the world is consumed in the developing countries. Recently, countries such as Mexico, Indonesia, Vietnam and certain Caribbean countries have started to supply coir to the global market on a large scale.

Coir Pith Products (Briquettes, Artificial Door & Manure)

Coir is the outside hard layer of husk that surrounds the shell of the coconut. It consists mainly of fibres, which have traditionally been used to manufacture rope, carpets, doormats, upholstery stuffing, brushes etc. Between these fibres is the corky substance called coir pith, which has recently been widely recognized as the superior growing medium in which to grow soft fruit, tomatoes, roses and many other crops. Coir Pith a spongy material that binds the coconut fibre in the husk, coir pith is finding new applications. It is an excellent soil conditioner and is being extensively used as a soil-less medium for agri-horticultural purposes. With its moisture retention qualities, coir pith is ideal for growing anthodium’s and orchids. The eco-friendly product is said to be replacing many traditional products as an effective soil bed under greenhouse conditions. Coir pith Briquettes are made by compressing coir pith. They are individually shrink wrapped for export with or without labels as per specifications. Coir Pith Briquettes are natural organic growing medium and extensively used in Nurseries, Home Gardens, Green Houses and other Farming communities. Coir pith is emerging as a dollar-earning product indicating its potential to revitalize the soil. Coir pith is mixed with a suitable animal manure such as cow dung or poultry litter by using it as an absorbent in cattle farms and poultry farms. The spent coir pith is richly soaked with the dropping of the animals and this product is further decomposed using fungal culture. Suitable minerals are added to increase the availability of secondary and micro nutrients. The fungus breaks down the coir pith and the natural bacteria in the manure breaks down the manure resulting in a rich, soft, humus, organic manure that is widely used for horticulture, especially seed germination and organic farming of vegetables.
