The top 10 profitable franchise business options in India are best chosen by budget, not by brand rank. Under ₹10 lakh, Amul and Dr Lal PathLabs publish the lowest entry costs. Between ₹10 lakh and ₹30 lakh, EuroKids and Tumbledry sit in the middle. From ₹50 lakh upward you are looking at Lakmé Salon, and at Jockey, FirstCry and Lenskart, where the franchisor's page often shows no cost at all until you fill in a form.

No Indian franchisor publishes a verified profit figure that holds for your town. What they put on record is an investment range, a space requirement and, sometimes, a margin claim. This page lines up those published figures, as the franchisors' own pages showed them on 17 October 2026, and marks every gap. Treat the ten as a shortlist. The one that pays is the one whose existing franchisees will show you their books.

Top 10 profitable franchises in India, by what each one publishes

Only five of the ten state an investment on their own page, and only three make any percentage claim about margin or return. In the table, "not stated" means the page carried no such figure.

Which of these can you start with under ₹10 lakh, or even ₹50,000?

The lowest published entry cost among the ten is Amul's. A preferred outlet needs about ₹2 lakh by Amul's own estimate, of which a ₹25,000 brand security is refundable, and an ice cream scooping parlour about ₹6 lakh. Dr Lal PathLabs follows at around ₹3-4 lakh. Nothing on the list publishes a cost near ₹50,000. DTDC says only "low capital", so treat any ₹50,000 courier figure elsewhere as unconfirmed until DTDC states it in writing.

For a loan, the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) lends up to ₹50,000 under Shishu, up to ₹5 lakh under Kishore and up to ₹10 lakh under Tarun. A Tarun Plus category of up to ₹20 lakh has applied since 24 October 2024, and it is meant for borrowers who have repaid an earlier Tarun loan, according to a Press Information Bureau note on MUDRA. A first-time borrower is therefore looking at ₹10 lakh at most, which suits Amul and Dr Lal PathLabs but falls short of EuroKids or Tumbledry. Banks lend against the whole project, so get a written cost breakup. See also business ideas under ₹10 lakh.

What do the ten franchises actually involve, and what is the catch?

  • Amul: A small counter for pouch milk, dairy products and ice cream. Milk margin is slim, so milk products and ice cream decide the outcome.
  • Dr Lal PathLabs: A sample collection centre feeding the lab network. Income follows referral flow in your catchment, and the page gives no margin, so get revenue-share terms in writing.
  • DTDC: A parcel booking counter. DTDC lists five partner formats (DTDC360, Enterprise, Flex, Smile, Smile+) and 16,500+ channel partners, but no costs.
  • EuroKids: A preschool in at least 1,500 sq ft. Rent and fit-out dominate, and admissions cluster around the academic year, so cash flow is uneven.
  • Tumbledry: A 250 sq ft laundry outlet. Its page claims 65% annual ROI, its own search description 80%. Use neither, and ask for existing outlets' profit and loss.
  • Jawed Habib: Five formats, from a 200+ sq ft hair studio to a 1,000+ sq ft salon and an academy. Pick the format first and the cost follows.
  • Lakmé Salon: Needs 900 sq ft onwards and a stated ₹50-60 lakh minimum. Model the rent on that area first.
  • Jockey: An exclusive innerwear outlet. The page says "Our team will get in touch if a suitable opportunity arises", so it is by invitation, not purchase. The clothing franchise in India guide is a related read.
  • FirstCry: A baby and kids store. The page offers a form that screens by capital and property size, with no cost or margin figure.
  • Lenskart: Eyewear stores. The page cites 2,500+ stores across 500+ cities and a 25-30% margin, and asks if you are an optometrist and whether the property is owned or rented.

Why do profit figures in top-10 franchise lists never add up?

Most lists repeat margin ranges taken from franchise aggregator sites, and the franchisors' own pages rarely back them. Amul's page, for example, gives 2.5% on pouch milk, so a list quoting a different pouch milk margin is not matching it.

A margin is also not a profit. Take Amul's own numbers: its page expects monthly sales of ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh depending on location. Gross margin is monthly sales multiplied by the blended margin. At ₹5 lakh and a blended 10% (all milk products) that is ₹50,000. If the same ₹5 lakh were all pouch milk at 2.5%, it is ₹12,500. Rent, electricity and a helper's wages come out of that before you earn anything. The mix is my illustration; Amul's page does not give one.

What should you ask a franchisor before paying a deposit?

India has no dedicated franchise law, and a franchisor has no legal duty to disclose information before you sign, according to a 2025 legal survey of franchise law in India. The agreement is your only protection, so ask for these in writing:

  1. The total cost, split into deposit, fit-out, stock and working capital.
  2. Royalty or revenue share, the agreement term and renewal conditions.
  3. The profit and loss of three outlets older than 18 months, and the freedom to pick which franchisees you call.
  4. What happens to your deposit and stock if you exit.

Have a lawyer read the agreement before the deposit leaves your account.

Your next four steps, from ten names to one signed agreement

Narrow to two franchises within one budget band. Spend a full day at an outlet of each in a city like yours, count walk-ins and ask the owner how the first year went. Run the payback sum with your own rent, then take the cost breakup to a bank when you apply under MUDRA. If the numbers only work for a lower or higher budget, the lists of business ideas under ₹25 lakh and business ideas under ₹50 lakh show what else that money can start, and the business ideas in India hub holds the rest.

Frequently asked questions about profitable franchises in India

Which franchise is most profitable in India?

No franchise is profitable by default, and none of the ten publishes a verified profit figure for your town. Lenskart cites a 25-30% margin and Amul 10-20% on milk products and ice cream, but rent, wages and royalty come out of any margin. Compare existing outlets' books, not rankings.

Which is the cheapest franchise among the ten?

Amul's preferred outlet, at about ₹2 lakh on Amul's own page, with working capital extra. Dr Lal PathLabs is next at around ₹3-4 lakh. DTDC does not publish its cost, so it cannot be ranked on price.

What are the top 3 franchises in India?

India has no official ranking. By lowest published entry cost, the three here are Amul, Dr Lal PathLabs and EuroKids. Cost is not profit, so pick the one whose outlet you can staff and whose rent you can carry.

Is there a government franchise in India?

Yes, India Post runs a franchise scheme. Counter services such as stamp sales, Speed Post and registered post bookings, money orders and bill collection are franchised, while delivery and transmission stay with the Department. The page states no fees or commissions, so ask your local postal division.

Can an individual open a Domino's franchise in India?

Not confirmed. Jubilant FoodWorks signed a fresh 15-year master franchise agreement on 31 March 2026 and holds exclusive rights to develop and operate Domino's stores in India, per Restaurant India's report of 2 April 2026. Ask Jubilant whether any outlet is open to an outside investor before paying anyone who offers to arrange one.
