What is a corrugated galvanized sheet project report?
A corrugated galvanized sheet project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a plant that coats steel strip with zinc and presses it into wave-profile roofing sheets. It sets out the galvanizing route, machinery, cold rolled coil and zinc needs, project cost, means of finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even.
Promoters use it to choose capacity and raise a term loan; bank credit teams use it to test repayment through steel and zinc price swings.
Also known as: GC sheet project report, GI corrugated roofing sheet project report, CGI sheet plant DPR, corrugated galvanized sheet business plan.

Corrugated galvanized sheet manufacturing process
A galvanizing plant turns bare cold rolled strip into coated, corrugated sheet in one continuous pass. A roll forming unit that buys GI coil starts at step 6.
- Uncoil and join
Coils of cold rolled full hard strip are opened and welded end to end, and an entry accumulator keeps the line moving during each weld.
- Clean the strip
Hot alkali and rinsing remove rolling oil and fines, because zinc will not bond where oil remains.
- Anneal
A reducing-atmosphere furnace softens the hard strip so it can be corrugated without cracking, and brings it to bath temperature.
- Galvanize and wipe
The strip runs through molten zinc at about 450 °C, then air knives blow off the excess to hit the ordered coating class.
- Cool and passivate
A passivation coat stops white rust forming when sheets sit in damp stacks at the dealer.
- Corrugate
A roll former with a series of stands presses the strip into the wave profile in steps, so the zinc coat is not cracked.
- Cut, test and bundle
A flying shear cuts standard and customer lengths; samples go for coating mass and bend tests before bundling.
Roll forming only or your own galvanizing line?
This is the first decision in any GC sheet project, and it changes the investment several times over. Our sample report follows the galvanizing route.
| Point | Roll forming bought GI coil | Galvanizing and corrugation (sample) |
|---|---|---|
| What you buy | Galvanized coil from a mill or stockist | Cold rolled full hard coil and zinc ingot |
| Main equipment | Decoiler, corrugation roll former and shear | Cleaning section, annealing furnace, zinc pot, air knives, roll former, scrubber and effluent plant |
| Investment | About ₹50–200 lakh, indicative, mostly working capital | ₹1,345 lakh at 22 MT per day |
| Where the margin comes from | A small conversion spread plus cut-length service | Coating, annealing and forming value on top of the coil price |
| Pollution category | Dry forming only, no surface treatment | Red category, because galvanizing and pickling are listed processes |
Roll forming ranges are indicative. Large integrated mills also make GC sheet from hot rolled coil after their own pickling and cold rolling; that scale is outside this page.
Raw materials for GC sheet: coil and zinc
Cold rolled coil is priced off the steel cycle and zinc off the London Metal Exchange, so the two move independently. Zinc use rises with the coating class. On a 0.45 mm sheet, a 120 g per m² coating is about 3.3% of sheet weight and a 275 g coating about 7.2%.
| Raw material | Share of cost | Year 3 (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Cold rolled full hard steel coil | 84% | 2,084.53 |
| Zinc ingot | 13% | 322.61 |
| Fluxing, pickling and passivation chemicals | 3% | 74.45 |
| Total | 100% | 2,481.59 |
In the sample, raw materials are 67.4% of sales in Year 3. Coating weight figures are worked from steel density and are approximate.
Machinery for a corrugated galvanized sheet plant
The annealing furnace is the costliest item in the sample, followed by the zinc pot. The corrugation roll former itself is a small share of a galvanizing plant.
| Machine | What it does | Sample cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Uncoiler, strip welder and entry accumulator | Feeds coils without stopping the line | 76.79 |
| Alkali cleaning and pickling section | Removes oil and oxide before coating | 63.99 |
| Annealing and preheating furnace | Softens strip and heats it for the bath | 140.77 |
| Zinc pot with heating and dross handling | Holds molten zinc; dross is skimmed off | 115.18 |
| Air knife, cooling and passivation section | Sets coating mass, cools and protects | 83.18 |
| Corrugation roll forming machine | Presses the wave profile | 63.99 |
| Cut to length shear and sheet stacker | Cuts lengths and stacks sheets | 38.39 |
| Fume scrubber and effluent treatment plant | Treats acid fumes and rinse water | 38.39 |
| Coating mass and bend testing laboratory | Checks each lot against IS 277 | 19.20 |
| Total plant and machinery | 639.88 | |

Power, fuel and manpower for a galvanizing line
The furnace and zinc pot run day and night, because letting a zinc bath freeze is costly. Power and fuel take ₹246.78 lakh in Year 3 of the sample, 6.7% of sales, and the plant runs in shifts with 109 people.
| Category | Number | Monthly wage (₹) | Year 1 cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Management, supervision and administration | 16 | 30,500 | 58.56 |
| Skilled workers and operators | 38 | 19,500 | 88.92 |
| Semi-skilled and unskilled workers | 55 | 13,000 | 85.80 |
| Total | 109 | 233.28 |
Wages rise 5% a year in the sample projections.
Licences and BIS approval for a GC sheet plant
| Business registration | Udyam (MSME) registration and GST registration |
|---|---|
| Pollution board consent | Consent to establish and operate from the State Pollution Control Board. Galvanizing and pickling are Red category processes, so expect a fume scrubber, effluent treatment and a longer approval time |
| Product standard | BIS licence to IS 277:2018 for galvanized steel strips and sheets, plain and corrugated, with the ISI mark and licence number on each sheet |
| In-house testing | The BIS product manual lists chemical analysis, a tensile testing machine, coating mass stripping and bend test mandrels |
| Factory and power | Factory licence under state rules and an industrial power connection sanctioned for the furnace, pot and forming line |
Checked October 2026. Confirm the current Quality Control Order position for IS 277 with BIS.
Who buys corrugated galvanized sheets
GC sheet is the low-cost roof for rural homes, cattle and poultry sheds, godowns and site structures. Orders pick up after the monsoon and through the building season, and buyers look at thickness, coating class and the ISI mark before price.
- Steel and hardware dealers in district towns
- Industrial shed and pre-engineered building fabricators
- Rural and government housing contractors
- Warehouse, poultry and dairy shed builders
- Railway and public sector tenders
Where a regional plant wins: branded sheets from large mills travel long distances through stockists. A plant near its dealers can supply cut lengths in a few days and save the buyer freight.
Mistakes that weaken a corrugated galvanized sheet project report
- Pricing sheets at online retail rates
Per-kg rates seen on marketplaces include GST and dealer margin. Sales must be built on ex-factory prices, or revenue and DSCR come out too high.
- One zinc figure for every coating class
A 275 g coating uses more than twice the zinc of a 120 g coating. The product mix has to drive zinc cost.
- No allowance for dross and ash
Some zinc leaves the pot as dross and ash, sold back at a discount. Ignoring it under-states raw material cost.
- Leaving out pollution control
A Red category plant needs a scrubber and effluent treatment; the sample carries ₹38.39 lakh for them before consent is granted.
- Thin working capital
Coil stock and 45 days of dealer credit lock up cash. In the sample, Year 1 working capital is ₹529.34 lakh, and debtors are the largest part of it.

Corrugated Galvanized Sheet project report: frequently asked questions
What does a corrugated galvanized sheet plant cost in India?
It depends on whether you galvanize in-house. A unit that only corrugates bought GI coil needs roughly ₹50–200 lakh, mostly for coil stock and dealer credit. A plant that galvanizes cold rolled coil itself needs far more; our sample report models a 22 MT per day galvanizing and corrugation plant at ₹1,345 lakh. These figures are indicative; your report costs your own capacity and site.
What raw material is used to make GC sheets?
Cold rolled steel coil and zinc are the two main inputs. In our sample report cold rolled full hard coil is 84% of raw material cost and zinc ingot is 13%, with cleaning, flux and passivation chemicals making up the rest. A unit that only roll-forms buys ready galvanized coil instead, so it carries the whole coil price as raw material.
Is corrugated galvanized sheet manufacturing profitable?
It can be, but margins are thin because steel and zinc make up most of the cost. In our illustrative sample the plant earns a 14% return on investment in Year 3, breaks even at about 48% of capacity and pays back in about 4.6 years. Coil buying, zinc consumption and dealer credit decide the result more than selling price.
What is the difference between GI sheet and GC sheet?
GI (galvanized iron) sheet is the flat zinc-coated sheet; GC (galvanized corrugated) sheet is the same material pressed into a wave profile on a roll forming machine. The corrugations make the sheet stiff across the waves, so it can span roof purlins. Both are covered by the same BIS standard, IS 277, for plain and corrugated sheets.
Is a BIS licence needed to make corrugated galvanized sheets?
Plan for one. IS 277:2018 covers galvanized steel strips and sheets, plain and corrugated. The BIS product manual lists the tests a licensee must run, including coating mass, bend test and chemical analysis. Dealers and government buyers ask for the ISI mark. Confirm the current Quality Control Order position with BIS before you place machinery orders.
Can a small GC sheet unit get a PMEGP loan?
Only a small roll forming unit fits. PMEGP covers manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakh, which suits a unit that corrugates bought GI coil with one forming machine. A plant with its own galvanizing line costs far more. It is usually funded by a term loan, with a cash credit limit for coil stock.
Is the sample report free and can I use it for a loan?
The sample is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report. Its figures are representative and not from a real project, so do not submit it to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own capacity, route, location and lender.
