Construction & Building Materials Projects

The construction industry is the second largest industry in India after agriculture. It accounts for about 11% of India’s GDP. It makes significant contribution to the national economy and provides employment to large number of people.Construction constitutes 40% to 50% of India's capital expenditure on projects in various sectors such as highways, roads, railways, energy, airports, irrigation etc. There are mainly three segments in the construction industry like real estate construction which includes residential and commercial construction; infrastructure building which includes roads, railways, power etc; and industrial construction that consists of oil and gas refineries, pipelines, textiles etc.Building material is any material which is used for a construction purpose. Many naturally occurring substances, such as clay, sand, wood and rocks, even twigs and leaves have been used to construct buildings. Apart from naturally occurring materials, many man-made products are in use.

The feasibility of infrastructure projects in ports, roads, airports and railways with private-sector majority ownership is already evident. The government also expects a substantial increase in the share of private sector investments in infrastructure from 19 per cent in the Tenth Plan to around 30 per cent in the Eleventh Plan. The biggest increase in private participation is expected in roads (from 5 per cent to 36), ports (47 per cent to 74 per cent) and railways (less than 1 per cent to 20 per cent). The Planning Commission estimates that the remaining infrastructure investments will be funded by the central and state government. According to a study by ASSOCHAM, the burgeoning Indian construction industry, currently worth $70 billion, will rise to US$120 billion by 2010.

The Commonwealth Games - 2010 in New Delhi have thrown mega opportunities for Building Material Companies, Construction Equipments & Technologies companies. The Govt. of India has permitted FDI up to 100% for development of integrated townships in India last year. India is now the second most favored destination for FDI, behind China. A large and growing middle class population of more than 300 million people, a changing life style, better cost of living etc is growth drivers for this sector.

The Indian construction industry, an integral part of the economyand a conduit for a substantial part of its development investment, is poised for growth on account of industrialization, urbanization, economic development and people's rising expectations for improved quality of living in the coming years.

How to Start a Mini Cement Plant. Cement Manufacturing Industry. Cement Business.

India is the second largest producer of cement in the world. No wonder, India's cement industry is a vital part of its economy, providing employment to more than a million people, directly or indirectly. India has a lot of potential for development in the infrastructure and construction sector and the cement sector is expected to largely benefit from it. Some of the recent major initiatives such as development of 98 smart cities are expected to provide a major boost to the sector. The most common use for cement is in the production of concrete. Concrete is a composite material consisting of aggregate (gravel and sand), cement, and water. As a construction material, concrete can be cast in almost any shape desired, and once hardened, can become a structural (load bearing) element. Uses: Cement is indispensible for building and construction work and cement industry is considered to be an important infrastructure core industry. It is one of the most advanced industries of India. In a developing country like India, the cement industry can play a significant role in the overall economic growth. • Building (floors, beams, columns, roofing, piles, bricks, mortar, panels, plaster) • Transport (roads, pathways, crossings, bridges, sleepers, viaducts, tunnels, stabilization, runways, parking) • Water (pipes, culverts, kerbing, drains, canals, weirs, dams, tanks, pools) • Civil (piers, docks, retaining walls, silos, warehousing, poles, pylons, fencing) • Agriculture (buildings, processing, housing, feedlots, irrigation) The housing sector is the biggest demand driver of cement, accounting for about 67 per cent of the total consumption in India. The other major consumers of cement include infrastructure at 13 per cent, commercial construction at 11 per cent and industrial construction at 9 per cent. The Indian cement industry is dominated by a few companies. The top 20 cement companies account for almost 70 per cent of the total cement production of the country. A total of 188 large cement plants together account for 97 per cent of the total installed capacity in the country, with 365 small plants account for the rest. Of these large cement plants, 77 are located in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. India’s total cement production capacity is nearly 425 million tonnes. The growth of cement industry is expected to be 6-7 per cent in 2017 because of the government’s focus on infrastructural development. The industry is currently producing 280 MT for meetings its domestic demand and 5 MT for exports requirement. The country's per capita consumption stands at around 225 kg. It accounts for 6.9% of the world’s cement output. India’s cement production capacity is expected to reach 550 million tonnes by 2025. The industry provides employment to more than a million people directly or indirectly. In a country like India, the demand for cement is derived chiefly from the housing sector. One-fourth of the demand comes from the infrastructure sector and about 10-15% demand is generated from the commercial construction sector. The cement market is expected to soon witness an annual increase in demand, which could exceed supply, with the recent decline in capacity addition, especially in Asia Pacific (APAC) countries such as India. This may also prepare a platform for an imposing price appreciation in the future. However, new government regulations or changes in the nation’s financial system could affect the demand; for instance, the recent demonetization in India. Nevertheless, even with a small revival in the cement industry, the volume growth is anticipated to improve. The cement industry immensely relies on construction and building activities. Concrete and mortar are two of the most common products in the construction industry that use cement as a major ingredient. Any escalation in the global construction or building activities will spur the market largely. Other factors that could influence the rise in the worldwide market include escalating number of nuclear families, rising need for accommodation, development in technology, and excessive disposable income. It is used to make interior walls and ceilings. The plaster is mixed with fibre (typically paper and/or fibreglass), plasticizer, foaming agent, and various additives that can decrease mildew, increase fire resistance, and lower water absorption. Gypsum building materials are used in all construction types (residential, non-residential, new or refurbished), ranging from complex high-tech systems to easy to install products adapted for use by the general public. Gypsum board is widely used for internal walls and ceilings by the construction industry, and is a material of growing importance in the do it yourself sector. Gypsum board is also a common fire barrier used in house and general building construction. Commonly gypsum boards used in walls and ceilings, in moist areas, in exterior applications, for fire resistance and area separation and special systems. Gypsum plaster board (GPB) popularly known as gypboard, is a low cost, light weight construction material made from aerated gypsum plaster and produced in varying thicknesses suitable for different applications. Gypsum is an important raw material used in the manufacture of cement. Consumption of gypsum varies from 2 to 6% in different plants depending upon the quality of clinker. India has good reserves of natural gypsum, mainly concentrated in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Besides, a number of chemical industries obtain gypsum as a byproduct in the form of phospho gypsum. The chemical gypsum can be utilised as a whole or as part substitute to natural gypsum. Many cement plants, which are located near the source of phosphogypsum are using this substitute product. Types of Gypsum Plaster Board Gypsum plaster boards are classified according to their use. Gypsum wall board has a face to which decoration may be applied. There are five types of gypsum board product that are considered standard. Innovation has created several new products now available. • Standard Gypsum Board: Regular core, Flexible board, Type “X”- fire resistant, Moisture resistant and Plaster baseboard. • Specialty Gypsum Board: Interior ceiling board, Mold & Moisture resistant, Shaft liner, Abuse resistant and Impact resistant. The global gypsum market is valued at $1.49 billion in 2016, equivalent to 252 million tonnes, with 33.3% and 60.9% being consumed in the plasterboard and cement industries, respectively. The gypsum market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 9.9% to reach nearly $2.4 billion by 2018 and $3.8 billion by 2026.
