Maharashtra runs two kinds of schemes that most lists mix together: schemes that pay a household a monthly benefit, and schemes that pay part of the cost of starting a business. If you want to start a unit, look first at the Chief Minister's Employment Generation Programme (CMEGP), which pays a subsidy of 15% to 35% of project cost against a bank loan, for manufacturing projects of up to ₹50 lakh, and at the state's industrial policy of December 2025, which refunds the state tax on your sales and adds capital and interest support. If you want a monthly benefit, the main scheme is the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which pays eligible women ₹1,500 a month but has removed lakhs of names after a verification drive. The sections below sort the schemes by what they give, flag what changed in 2025 and 2026, and end with the order in which to apply. Figures are as of October 2026.

Which Maharashtra schemes can fund a business or self-employment?

CMEGP and its central twin PMEGP suit small first-time units, the industrial policy rewards larger ones, and the rest target startups or specific communities. A scheme gives you a subsidy, and the bank still decides the loan.

What changed in Maharashtra's schemes in 2025 and 2026?

  • Industrial policy: Announced in December 2025 for five years. Incentives depend on the zone your taluka falls in, so check it before choosing a site (see our page on industrial areas in Maharashtra).
  • Startup policy: The state cabinet approved it on 5 August 2025, as The Week reported.
  • PMEGP: Authorised only to 31 March 2026. A Rajya Sabha reply reported by Kashmir Life on 3 August 2026 said further subsidy release depends on approval to continue it. Ask your bank or District Industries Centre before paying for a project report.

Which Maharashtra schemes are for women, and what does Ladki Bahin pay?

Ladki Bahin pays ₹1,500 a month by direct transfer to women who pass its checks. Reporting by The Indian Express carried by Outlook on 13 July 2026 said nearly 62 lakh names were removed for not completing e-KYC and 16 lakh for family income above ₹2.5 lakh. Reports put total removals at 80 lakh to 93 lakh, and the minister says eligible women kept receiving benefits until e-KYC was due. The promised rise to ₹2,100 had not been paid.

SchemeWhat it givesWho qualifiesThe catch
Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana₹1,500 a monthWomen aged 21-65 in families earning under ₹2.5 lakh a year, with no government employee in the familye-KYC is compulsory; payments stop without it
Mahila Startup YojanaGrant of ₹1-25 lakhWomen-owned recognised startups in MaharashtraGrant window closed when checked
CMEGP and PMEGPHigher subsidy band: 25% urban, 35% ruralWomen starting a new unitThe rest comes from a bank loan and your own money

If an instalment stopped, check e-KYC first, since it caused most of the removals.

Where do you check farm, health and student schemes?

Maharashtra also runs health (Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana), farmer (Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana) and student schemes, each with its own rules. The state's MahaDBT portal handles direct-benefit schemes, and the national myScheme portal lists schemes matching your age, income and category.

In what order should you apply for a business scheme?

  1. Fix project cost and category first. Land is excluded from project cost under CMEGP and PMEGP, as Saraswat Bank and Bank of Maharashtra describe them, so a ₹60 lakh plant including ₹15 lakh of land is assessed on ₹45 lakh. Choose one margin-money scheme, since PMEGP rejects units that already took another government subsidy.
  2. Register on Udyam. CMEGP requires it, and the state's tax refund needs Udyam and GST registration.
  3. Get a detailed project report made. Banks and the Mahamandal ask for it. It should show project cost, working capital (30% of project cost under CMEGP, per Saraswat Bank), cost of production and break-even.
  4. Apply on the portal, then let the bank sanction the loan. The CMEGP subsidy is adjusted against the loan after sanction. Do not buy machinery before you hold the sanction in writing.
  5. Claim state incentives once production starts. The tax refund runs on actual first sales in Maharashtra, so keep invoices.

Why do applications stall?

  • Two people from one family apply. CMEGP and PMEGP allow one per family (self and spouse).
  • The unit already exists, or the project has no capital spending. Both schemes want a new project.
  • EMIs are missed under the Annasaheb Patil scheme. Interest is reimbursed only after the full EMI is paid.

What should you do this week?

  1. Work out your project cost without land and your category, then read your subsidy band from the table.
  2. Ask your bank and the District Industries Centre whether PMEGP is open, and check the CMEGP portal. If neither is, plan the loan and your own contribution without a subsidy first.
  3. If you have not chosen a product, start with business ideas in Maharashtra or manufacturing business ideas, then match project cost to the bands above.

Limits differ by scheme version, category and bank, and a lender will want a project-specific report. For other states and central schemes, see our government schemes hub.

Frequently asked questions about Maharashtra government schemes

How can I get ₹3,000 a month from the government in Maharashtra?

No Maharashtra scheme we could verify pays ₹3,000 a month. Ladki Bahin pays ₹1,500, and the rise to ₹2,100 that was promised had not been paid as of July 2026 reporting. Be careful with websites that promise a ₹3,000 instalment, and check the official Ladki Bahin portal instead.

Can I take CMEGP and PMEGP for the same project?

Treat them as alternatives. PMEGP does not accept a unit that has already received another government subsidy, according to Bank of Maharashtra. Ask the District Industries Centre which scheme is open and which suits your project cost before you apply to either.

Do I need an agent to apply for these schemes?

No. CMEGP applications go through the scheme's own portal, and loans through the bank. In July 2024 the then chief minister said officials demanding bribes for Ladki Bahin registration would be suspended. Anyone asking for money to approve an application is a warning sign.

Do subsidy rates differ between cities and villages?

Yes. Under CMEGP and PMEGP the general category gets 15% in urban areas and 25% in rural areas, while special categories such as SC, ST, women and ex-servicemen get 25% and 35%. The industrial policy works differently: its ceiling depends on the zone, from 30% to 100% of fixed capital.
