What is a antimony trioxide project report?
An antimony trioxide project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a plant that burns antimony metal vapour in air and collects the white Sb2O3 powder. It covers the process, furnaces, raw materials, market, project cost, means of finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even that a bank needs.
Promoters use it to size the plant and raise a term loan; lenders and investors use it to check whether the metal-to-oxide margin can repay the debt.
Also known as: project report on antimony trioxide, antimony trioxide business plan, antimony oxide plant DPR, Sb2O3 manufacturing project report.
Antimony trioxide manufacturing plant cost in India: sample economics
Our sample report models a plant making 0.74 metric tonnes per day (244 MT per year) over 330 working days. It starts at 60% of capacity and reaches 80% in Year 5, selling at ₹25,30,000 per MT before GST.
The figures show what drives this business. Antimony metal is costly, so sales are high for a small plant, and working capital matters almost as much as machinery. In Year 1 the working capital requirement is ₹590.29 lakh, close to the ₹646.79 lakh spent on fixed assets.
| Land and site development | 76.36 |
|---|---|
| Building and civil works | 137.71 |
| Plant and machinery | 353.19 |
| Other fixed assets | 54.99 |
| Contingencies | 24.54 |
| Preliminary and pre-operative | 16.17 |
| Working capital margin | 147.57 |
| Total | 810.53 |
| Promoter's contribution (25%) | 202.63 |
|---|---|
| Term loan from bank (75%) | 607.90 |
| Cash credit limit (separate) | 442.72 |
| Total project cost | 810.53 |
Term loan at 10.5% with a 6-month moratorium and 54 monthly instalments; lowest DSCR 1.80 in Year 2. All figures are illustrative.
Antimony trioxide manufacturing process, step by step
The sample plant uses the metal oxidation route, where antimony is burnt to oxide in a furnace. It runs as a continuous hot process, so furnaces, coolers and the bag house are sized together.
- Ingot charging and melting
Antimony ingots and clean scrap are melted in an oil or gas fired furnace to form a molten bath.
- Volatilisation and oxidation
The molten metal is vaporised and burnt in a controlled flow of combustion air, turning the vapour into a fine oxide fume.
- Controlled cooling
The fume passes through water-cooled U-tube ducts, where the cooling rate decides the crystal form, particle size and tint.
- Collection
A pulse-jet bag filter house captures the white powder and discharges it through rotary valves.
- Classification
An air classifier and vibro sieve take out coarse particles so the lot fits the buyer's size range.
- Testing and blending
Each lot is checked for Sb2O3 content, whiteness and lead, arsenic and iron, then blended to a uniform grade.
- Packing
Powder is filled into 25 kg valve bags under dust extraction and palletised for dispatch.
Which process route suits a new antimony trioxide plant?
Antimony trioxide is made either by oxidising antimony metal or by re-volatilising crude oxide from ore. The choice depends on what feed you can secure and which grade you want to sell.
| Metal oxidation (sample route) | Burns purchased antimony ingots in air. Simple flow sheet, consistent white product and no sulphur handling; the cost of metal sets the margin. |
|---|---|
| Roasting stibnite ore | Roasts antimony sulphide ore to a crude oxide that is then re-volatilised and refined. Feed is cheaper per unit of antimony, but sulphur dioxide must be captured and ore supply is hard to secure in India. |
| Wet chemical route | Produces oxide by hydrolysing an antimony salt solution and drying it. Used for special high-purity grades in small volumes, with more effluent to treat. |
| Usual choice for a first plant | Metal oxidation, because it needs the fewest process steps, the smallest emission system and only one bought-in raw material. |
Raw materials for antimony trioxide
Antimony trioxide is about 83.5% antimony by weight, so a tonne of oxide needs roughly 0.84 tonne of metal before losses. Ingots are bought to IS 211, the BIS standard for antimony ingot, or to the supplier's purity certificate.
In our sample, raw materials are 65.2% of sales in Year 3 and ingots alone are 90% of that bill.
| Raw material | Share of cost | Year 3 (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Antimony metal ingots (99.65% Sb) | 90% | 2,536.77 |
| Antimony scrap and recycled oxide fines | 8% | 225.49 |
| Surface treatment agent for low-dust grades | 2% | 56.37 |
| Total | 100% | 2,818.63 |
Machinery for an antimony trioxide plant
The volatilisation furnace is the largest item in the sample, followed by the bag filter house. Together with the scrubber, dust control equipment takes a large share of the machinery budget.
| Machine | What it does | Sample cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Ingot melting furnace | Melts ingots and scrap, oil or gas fired | 56.51 |
| Volatilisation and oxidation furnace | Vaporises the metal and burns it to oxide, with air blowers | 77.70 |
| Water-cooled U-tube ducts | Cool the fume at a set rate to control particle size | 42.38 |
| Pulse-jet bag filter house | Collects the product from the gas stream | 63.57 |
| Air classifier and vibro sieve | Remove coarse particles | 35.32 |
| Wet scrubber and stack | Clean the gas after the bag house | 28.26 |
| Valve bag packing machine | Fills 25 kg bags under dust extraction | 28.26 |
| Quality control laboratory | Whiteness meter and particle size analyser | 21.19 |
| Total plant and machinery | 353.19 | |

Utilities and manpower for the plant
Furnaces lose heat and product quality when they are stopped and restarted, so plan power, fuel and staff for round-the-clock running.
| Power and fuel | ₹250.32 lakh in Year 3 of the sample, 5.8% of sales, for furnace firing, blowers, the bag house fan and classifier |
|---|---|
| Cooling water | Steady supply for the U-tube coolers, which hold the fume temperature and product size |
| Compressed air | For pulse cleaning of the filter bags and pneumatic transfer of powder |
| Manpower | 96 people in the sample: 14 in management and supervision, 34 skilled operators and 48 semi-skilled and unskilled workers |
| Wage bill | ₹216.00 lakh in Year 1, rising 5% a year |
| Packing | 4.9% of sales in the sample, for valve bags, liners and pallets |
Licences and approvals for an antimony trioxide plant
| Pollution board consent | Consent to establish and consent to operate from the State Pollution Control Board. State Red lists include furnace-based non-ferrous metal extraction and basic chemicals, so expect the Red category and confirm the entry with your board |
|---|---|
| Hazardous waste authorisation | Under Rule 6 of the Hazardous and Other Wastes Rules, 2016: apply in Form 1, receive it in Form 2 (valid five years), keep records in Form 3 and file the annual return in Form 4 by 30 June |
| Raw material standard | IS 211:2024 for antimony ingot, as of October 2026 |
| Product specification | IS 38:1976 for antimony oxide for paints is withdrawn, so product is supplied to each buyer's specification for purity, tint, particle size and impurities |
| Worker health | IARC classified trivalent antimony as probably carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A) in May 2023. Plan closed handling, dust extraction and regular health checks under your factory licence |
| Business registration | Udyam (MSME) registration and GST registration |
Market for antimony trioxide in India
Most demand comes from flame retardant uses. Cable compound, plastic and textile makers add antimony trioxide alongside brominated or chlorinated flame retardants, and the two work far better together than either alone.
PET resin plants buy catalyst grades with tight limits on lead and iron, and solar glass makers buy it as a fining agent. A buyer usually runs trials before approving a new supplier, then keeps buying from that supplier if quality holds.
- PVC cable compound and wire makers
- PET resin and polyester fibre plants
- Solar and special glass manufacturers
- Masterbatch and engineering plastic compounders
- Ceramic, enamel and paint manufacturers
- Chemical traders and importers
Supply is the real risk: China has required export licences for antimony ores, metal and compounds since 15 September 2024. Plan metal sourcing from more than one country before you fix capacity.
Mistakes that weaken an antimony trioxide project report
- Assuming a fixed spread between metal and oxide
Metal and oxide prices move separately, and the gap between them is the whole margin. Test a 10% rise in ingot price with no change in oxide price.
- Ignoring antimony content and fume losses
Output must be worked out from the 83.5% antimony content and the losses at the bag house, not from a one-to-one weight of metal.
- Pricing one grade for every buyer
Catalyst, flame retardant and low-tint grades differ in price and test limits. Revenue should follow the grade mix you can actually sell.
- Undersizing working capital
Trade receivables of ₹533.19 lakh are the largest current asset in Year 3 of the sample. Imported metal often needs advance payment or a letter of credit as well.
- Treating dust control as an add-on
A torn filter bag loses saleable product and exposes workers to a Group 2A substance. Budget for spare bags, leak detection and exposure monitoring.

Antimony Trioxide project report: frequently asked questions
What is the antimony trioxide manufacturing plant cost in India?
Our sample report models a 0.74 MT per day plant at ₹810.53 lakh, including ₹353.19 lakh of plant and machinery and ₹147.57 lakh of working capital margin. The real cost depends on capacity, the process route, how much land and building you need and local pollution control demands. A project report works out the figure for your own site and grade.
Which raw material is used to make antimony trioxide?
Most converters start from antimony metal ingots of about 99.65% purity, with some clean scrap and recycled fines. Antimony trioxide is about 83.5% antimony by weight, so one tonne of oxide needs roughly 0.84 tonne of metal before process losses. In our sample, ingots make up 90% of raw material cost.
How is antimony trioxide manufactured?
In the common route, antimony metal is melted in a fired furnace, vaporised and burnt in a controlled air stream. The oxide fume is cooled in water-cooled ducts, collected in a pulse-jet bag filter, then classified, tested and packed in 25 kg bags. The cooling rate sets the particle size and tint that buyers specify.
Is antimony trioxide manufacturing profitable?
In our illustrative sample, the plant earns a 29% return on investment in Year 3 and breaks even at about 44% of capacity. Its average DSCR is 2.10, meaning cash covers loan instalments about twice. Real profit rests on the gap between metal cost and oxide price, which moves with Chinese export policy and global antimony prices.
What is antimony trioxide used for?
Its largest use is as a synergist with halogenated flame retardants in PVC cables, plastics, rubber and textiles. It is also a catalyst for PET resin and polyester fibre, a fining agent in solar and special glass, and an opacifier in ceramics and enamels. Each use asks for a different purity, tint and particle size.
Is the sample report free and can I use it for a loan?
The sample is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report; its figures are representative and not based on a real project, so it should not be submitted to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own capacity, location and lender.
