Waste management and recycling: Project Opportunities in Uttarakhand

PROFILE:

Rapid industrialization last few decades have led to the depletion of pollution of precious natural resources in India depletes and pollutes resources continuously. Further the rapid industrial developments have, also, led to the generation of huge quantities of hazardous wastes, which have further aggravated the environmental problems in the country by depleting and polluting natural resources. Therefore, rational and sustainable utilization of natural resources and its protection from toxic releases is vital for sustainable socio-economic development.

Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asian countries including India. The lack of technical and financial resources and the regulatory control for the management of hazardous wastes in the past had led to the unscientific disposal of hazardous wastes in India, which posed serious risks to human, animal and plant life.

RESOURCES:

Investments are aimed at improving public health and the environmental quality in the Program towns and the adjacent open land and water bodies by increasing solid waste collection coverage from 50% to 72% and supporting sound solid waste disposal methods. Improvements will be directed at (i) segregation of solid waste at household level and handling and management improvements at wards and town levels with an emphasis on waste minimization, (ii) provision of solid waste collection and transportation equipment, and (iii) construction of sanitary landfills in accordance with GoI’s Municipal Solid Waste Management and Handling Rules 2000. These will develop into a State wide SWM strategy, action plan, and town wise SWM master plan reports supported by capacity building of ULBs in SWM.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

National policy on waste management is set out in the October 1998 policy statement on waste management- Changing our ways. It outlines the Government's policy objectives in relation to waste management, and suggests some key issues and considerations that must be addressed to achieve these objectives. The policy is firmly grounded in an internationally recognised hierarchy of options, namely prevention, minimisation, reuse/recycling, and the environmentally sustainable disposal of waste which cannot be prevented or recovered.

Manufacturing Business of Silicon Metal. Investment Opportunities in Profitable Industry.

Silicon metal is a semi-conductive grey metal that is used in the production of steel, solar cells, and microchips. Silicon is the second most plentiful element in the earth's crust (after oxygen) and the universe's eighth most common element. Silicon accounts up over a third of the weight of the earth's crust. Silicon is the eighth most abundant element in the universe by mass, yet it is extremely rare in the Earth's crust as a pure element. It is most widely spread in space as various forms of silicon dioxide (silica) or silicates in cosmic dusts, planetoids, and planets. Silicate minerals make up more than 90% of the Earth's crust, making silicon the second most abundant element in the crust (approximately 28 percent by mass) behind oxygen. Silicon is a naturally occurring element with a 400-year residence duration in the world's oceans when not previously there. Uses of Silicon Metal: Commercially, silicon is used without being separated and with minimal processing of the native minerals. Clays, silica sand, and stone are used in industrial construction. Silicates are found in Portland cement, which is used to manufacture mortar and stucco, as well as concrete for walkways, foundations, and roadways. They're also found in whiteware ceramics like porcelain, as well as standard silicate-based soda-lime glass and a variety of speciality glasses. Silicon carbide, for example, is employed as an abrasive and as a component of high-strength ceramics. Silicon is the main component of silicones, which are commonly used synthetic polymers. Lucrative Business Opportunities in Production of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). Increasing Demand of Wood and Wood Based Products.

MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is a type of reconstituted wood panel. It's a solid, dry-processed fibreboard made from wood fibres rather than veneers or particles. It's denser than plywood and particleboard. MDF has a consistent density and is smooth on both sides. MDF is reconstituted into a variety of widths and lengths of wood sheets. The inclusion of synthetic resin adhesives, which are cured under heat and pressure, achieves bonding. Because of its weak moisture resistance, MDF is mostly used for inside applications. It comes unfinished with a fine sanded surface or with a decorative overlay like wood veneer, melamine paper, or vinyl. The following are the different types of MDF (which are sometimes classified by colour): 1. MDF plate that is extremely light (ULDF) 2. Moisture-resistant plywood is usually green in colour. 3. MDF that is fire resistant is usually red or blue in colour. Advantages of Medium Density Fiberboard: 1. Moderate Density Fibreboard has no grain and may be drilled and sliced without damaging it. Its great density allows equipment to be used on it. 2. It is free of kinks and knots and has a smooth surface. 3. Unlike actual wood, MDF does not flex or expand as a result of temperature changes. The swelling that happens in MDF as a result of moisture exposure is likewise minor. 4. Because of its high density, MDF holds hinges and screws better. 5. Unlike raw wood, which takes a long time to dye, MDF is simple to stain and colour. 6. MDF can be easily cut and carved into various designs due to its smooth edges. 7. To simulate genuine wood, the panel can be stained or painted. MDF panels can also be covered in laminates and wood veneers to make them look like real wood. Market Outlook: The global market for medium density fiberboard was worth USD 61.3 billion in 2019 and is predicted to increase at a CAGR of 6.6 percent from 2020 to 2027. The growing use of the product in furniture and building applications is projected to drive demand. The MDF market is being driven by an increase in demand for MDF for furniture, as well as the widespread usage of these boards in building materials. Because of expanding product application in furniture and building applications, as well as technical breakthroughs and improvements in production, the global medium density fiberboard (MDF) market is predicted to rise rapidly. Set up a Profitable Business of Oxygen Gas Plant. Rising Demand of Oxygen, Due to Covid-19 Pandemic.

Oxygen (O) is a nonmetallic chemical element in Periodic Table Group 16 (VIa, or the oxygen group). Oxygen is a colourless, odourless, and tasteless gas that is taken up by animals, who then convert it to carbon dioxide; plants, on the other hand, use carbon dioxide as a carbon source and return oxygen to the environment. Oxygen produces compounds when it reacts with nearly every other element, as well as when it reacts with other elements to displace them from their combinations; in many circumstances, these reactions are accompanied by the evolution of heat and light, and are referred to as combustions. Water is the most crucial component. Medical oxygen is a high-purity oxygen that is developed for use in the human body and is utilised for medical treatments. To avoid contamination, medical oxygen cylinders only contain high-purity oxygen gas; no other gases are permitted in the cylinder. An oxygen concentrator should have a medical grade oxygen content of no less than 90.0 percent and no more than 96.0 percent. When looking at appropriate oxygen saturation levels, it's also necessary to consider altitude. Because it is classified as a drug, it must meet FDA regulations for compressed medical gas. One of the requirements is that oxygen cylinders be thoroughly emptied at all times to reduce the danger of contamination.
