Calcium nitrate, also called Norgessalpeter (Norwegian saltpeter), is an inorganic compound with the formula Ca (NO3)2. This colourless salt absorbs moisture from the air and is commonly found as a tetrahydrate. It is mainly used as a component in fertilizers but has other applications. It is also formed during the absorption of nitrogen oxide by milk of lime. Calcium Nitrate is also used in wastewater treatment, as a component in the manufacture of concrete, for medicinal purposes in cooling baths, and to store energy in solar power plants. Calcium nitrate is mainly produced as a fertilizer, used for plant nutrition purposes, and for wastewater treatment. It is a source of both calcium and nitrogen, for plants.
