What is a guar gum project report?

A guar gum project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a unit that hydrates, flakes, grinds and grades refined guar splits into guar gum powder. It sets out the process, machinery, splits buying, market, project cost, means of finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even that a bank needs before it funds the plant.

Entrepreneurs and guar traders use it to size a powder plant and apply for a term loan; lenders use it to judge whether the unit can carry costly splits stock and still repay.

Also known as: guar gum powder project report, guar gum manufacturing plant project report, DPR for guar gum processing, guar gum business plan.

What a bank checks in a guar gum project report

A guar gum powder unit earns a processing margin on an expensive raw material, so lenders reading a project report on guar gum look first at how it handles splits cost and stock. These are the values in our sample report and why each one is tested.

66.3%Raw material share of sales

Splits are most of what the unit spends. A report that shows a much lower share is probably using an old splits price or a high powder price.

96%Splits share of raw material cost

Almost the whole raw material bill is one commodity traded on NCDEX. The bank expects a sensitivity case for a rise in splits price.

45 daysCredit given to buyers

Exporters and industrial buyers pay on credit. In the sample, money owed by buyers is the largest current asset, ahead of splits stock.

1.89Lowest yearly DSCR

The debt service coverage ratio (DSCR) is cash available divided by loan repayments due. Banks usually look for each year to stay well above 1.

Values are the assumptions in our illustrative sample. Your report uses figures for your capacity, grade and buyers.

Guar gum manufacturing plant cost in India

Cost depends on two choices: how many tonnes of powder you grind a day, and whether you split seed yourself or buy refined splits. The middle tier is the unit in our sample report; the other two are indicative ranges.

Guar gum manufacturing process: from splits to powder

Guar seed is about 29% gum splits by weight; the rest, churi and korma, goes to cattle feed. Splitting mills crack and dehusk the seed, and a powder unit like the one in our sample buys those refined splits and turns them into graded powder in seven steps.

  1. Splits inspection and cleaning

Each lot is checked for gum content and moisture, then cleaned of husk, dust and stones before it enters the line.

  2. Hydration

Splits soak in a measured quantity of water until they swell and soften; too little water and they shatter in the flaker.

  3. Flaking

Heavy rollers press the hydrated splits into thin flakes so they grind evenly instead of tearing.

  4. Grinding and flash drying

Flakes are ground in a pulveriser while hot air dries them, bringing moisture down to the grade limit in seconds.

  5. Sieving and classification

Cyclones, sifters and an air classifier sort the powder to the mesh the buyer orders, such as 200 mesh, and send oversize back to the mill.

  6. Blending

Lots of slightly different viscosity are mixed in a ribbon blender to hit the buyer's specification batch after batch.

  7. Testing and packing

Viscosity, moisture and ash are tested for every batch, and the powder is packed in lined bags with a batch number.

Guar gum powder plant machinery

The grinding and drying section is the heart of the plant: the pulveriser and the flash dryer together take about 38% of the machinery budget in our sample.

Market for guar gum powder: exports, oilfield and food

Guar gum is an export product first. APEDA's data shows India exported about 4.18 lakh tonnes worth ₹4,489 crore in 2023-24, with the USA, Germany, Russia, Norway and the Netherlands the largest buyers by value.

Two kinds of demand pull on the same powder. Oilfield service companies use it to thicken hydraulic fracturing fluids, so drilling activity abroad moves splits prices. Food, textile, paper and mining users buy steadier volumes but ask for tighter specifications.

  • Exporters and merchant traders
  • Oilfield chemical and service companies
  • Ice cream, sauce and bakery mix processors (food grade)
  • Textile printing houses and paper mills
  • Mining, explosives and ore flotation users
  • Pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturers

Where a new unit wins: Rajasthan grows most of India's guar and Jodhpur is the main processing centre, so a unit near the splitting mills buys splits with less freight and can supply exporters who need a steady grade at short notice.

Licences, quality standards and GST for guar gum

Business registrationUdyam (MSME) registration and GST registration
GST rate5% under heading 1302 (mucilages and thickeners from vegetable products), as per the CBIC rate notification of September 2025
Food safety licenceFSSAI licence for food grade powder; FSSAI's criteria place general food manufacturing above 2 MT per day under the central licence
Quality specificationFood grade follows the guar gum specification INS 412 (for example moisture up to 15%, ash up to 1.5%, protein up to 10%); AGMARK grades for powder set gum content and viscosity
Export registrationRegistration with APEDA as the export promotion body for guar gum, plus an Importer Exporter Code
Pollution board consentConsent to establish and operate from the State Pollution Control Board, with dust collection on the grinding and sieving line

Rules and rates change. Confirm the FSSAI licence tier and pollution category with the authorities in your state before applying.

Loans and schemes for a guar gum unit

MSME term loan with CGTMSE

Guarantee cover up to ₹10 crore per borrower

The usual route for a powder unit. CGTMSE cover lets eligible micro and small units borrow without collateral.

Cash credit limit

Separate from the term loan

Funds splits stock and buyer credit. In our sample the limit is ₹162.88 lakh, about half the term loan.

PMEGP

Manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakh

Margin-money subsidy for new units, but most powder plants cost more than the ceiling. It suits only a very small first unit.

Scheme limits change. Confirm current terms with the bank or the scheme portal before applying.

Mistakes that weaken a guar gum project report

  • Using a single splits price

Splits prices swing with the monsoon and with drilling demand abroad. A report built on one good month overstates the margin; test a narrower spread.

  • Pricing every bag as food grade

Food grade needs microbial control, tighter specifications and FSSAI compliance. Industrial grades sell for less, so the product mix must be stated.

  • Under-sizing working capital

Splits cost far more per tonne than most raw materials, and buyers take 45 days. A small cash credit limit leaves the plant idle while waiting for payments.

  • Ignoring moisture in the yield

Splits gain water in hydration and lose it in drying. Output must be worked out on dry weight, or saleable tonnes come out too high.

  • Leaving out dust control

Fine powder from the mill and sifters is a product loss and a fire risk. Cyclones and bag filters belong in the machinery cost.

Guar Gum project report: frequently asked questions

What is the guar gum manufacturing plant cost in India?

A small splits-to-powder unit of about 1 MT per day needs roughly ₹90–160 lakh, and an integrated plant that also splits seed costs about ₹10–20 crore. Our sample report models a 3.6 MT per day powder unit at ₹428.73 lakh including working capital margin. These are indicative figures; your report works out the cost for your capacity, grade and location.

Should a new unit start from guar seed or from refined splits?

Most first units buy refined splits and grind them into powder, because a splitting plant needs far more machinery and must sell churi and korma as cattle feed. Seed is cheaper per tonne, but only about 29% of it comes out as splits. Start from splits unless you already trade seed or have a feed buyer lined up.

Which machines are needed for guar gum powder?

You need a splits cleaner and grader, hydration tanks, a roller flaker, and a flash dryer with hot air generator. After that come a pulveriser, cyclones and sifters with an air classifier, a ribbon blender, a viscometer for testing, and a bag filling and stitching machine. In our sample report the pulveriser is the costliest item at ₹40.81 lakh.

Is guar gum powder manufacturing profitable?

In our illustrative sample, a 3.6 MT per day unit earns a 29% return on investment in Year 3. It breaks even at about 36% of capacity and pays back in about 3 years. Real profit depends mostly on the gap between splits cost and powder price, which moves with oil drilling demand, so a report should test a narrower margin.

Guar gum ka business kaise shuru kare?

Start by choosing your grade, industrial or food, and your first buyers. Then fix the site, ideally near the splits mills in western Rajasthan, get Udyam, GST and pollution consent, and an FSSAI licence for food grade. A project report with projections and DSCR is what the bank asks for before it sanctions the term loan and cash credit.

What GST rate applies to guar gum powder?

Guar gum falls under heading 1302, mucilages and thickeners derived from vegetable products, which carries 5% GST under the rate notification of September 2025. Guar gum refined split is also listed at 5%. Check the HSN code for your exact grade with your tax adviser, because treated and derivative guar products can fall under different entries.

Is the guar gum project report PDF free, and can I use it for a loan?

The sample is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report. Its figures are representative and not based on a real project, so do not submit it to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own capacity, location and loan scheme.
