HERBS, HERBAL MEDICINES AND ITS GROWTH

Saturday, November 29, 2014

Herbalism is use of plants for medicinal purposes, and the study of such use. Plants have been the basis for medical treatments through much of human history, and such traditional medicine is still widely practiced today. Peoples use herbal medicine to improve their health. Herbal medicines do not have to go through the testing that drugs do. It is becoming more mainstream as improvements in analysis and quality control along with advances in clinical research show the value of herbal medicine in the treating and preventing disease.

Modern medicine, does, however, make use of many plant-derived compounds as the basis for evidence-tested pharmaceutical drugs, and phytotherapy works to apply modern standards of effectiveness testing to herbs and medicines that are derived from natural sources. Herbal medicine aims to return the body to a state of natural balance, so that it can start healing itself. Some herbs, such as comfrey and ephedra, can cause serious harm.Unless mixed with other chemical components, they are known to be all natural. Some herbs have potent ingredients and should be treated with the same care and respect as pharmaceutical drugs.A pharmaceutical drug typically uses a synthesized version of a plant’s active ingredient. Some herbs may cause allergic reactions or interact with conventional drugs, and some are toxic if used improperly or at high doses. Practitioners of herbal medicine maintain that an active ingredient can lose its impact or become less safe, if used in isolation from the rest of the plant.

Herbs can be used to treat a wide range of disorders like- anexity, depression, high blood pressure, hormonal imbalance, insomnia, poor blood circulation, skin problems, migraines, nausea.
