Copper (Cu), chemical element, a reddish, extremely ductile metal of Group 11 (Ib) of the periodic table that is an unusually good conductor of electricity and heat. Copper is found in the free metallic state in nature. This native copper was first used (c. 8000 bce) as a substitute for stone by Neolithic (New Stone Age) humans. Metallurgy dawned in Mesopotamia as copper was cast to shape in molds (c. 4000 bce), was reduced to metal from ores with fire and charcoal, and was intentionally alloyed with tin as bronze (c. 3500 bce).

Copper Sulphate is blue crystalline granule or powdery white when dehydrated and has a nauseous metallic taste. It is manufactured by the reaction of dilute sulphuric acid on the copper scrap, copper waste in presence of oxygen. It is used in agriculture, leather industry, electric batteries, ore floatation etc. There is about 3% growth rate per annum.

Enameled Copper Wire

Enameled wire is an insulated wire used in winding of armatures in transformers, switch gears and other electrical equipments. When connected to the main supply a magnetic field is developed around the enameled wire coil and it helps to the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy as case of motors. With the industrial development and power generation its demand is growing very fast.

Market Outlook

Copper is one of the most widely used metals in India and its usage is next only to steel and aluminium in volume terms. India is a major importer of copper ore and concentrates and is a net exporter of refined copper. The country has limited reserves of copper ore and the reserves are mainly located in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.

Global demand for copper metal (produced from refined copper and recycled scrap) is projected to advance 4.2 percent per year through 2019 to 36.0 million metric tons, valued at $261 billion. Robust gains in building construction expenditures are expected to boost the use of copper wire, tube, and other mill products in applications such as building wire and plumbing. Increased infrastructure investment, particularly in developing countries, will further benefit copper suppliers as updates to national power grids drive the production of wire and cable.

Global copper mine production is expected to rise 3.7 percent per year to 22.6 million metric tons in 2019.

Copper and copper products are widely used in fields of electric power, electronic, energy and petro chemistry, machinery and metallurgy, transportation, light industry and emerging industry. It ranks the second in China’s non-ferrous metal consumption only second to aluminum.

Copper ore becomes high grade copper concentrate after dressing; through smelting, copper concentrate becomes refined copper and copper products. Copper applied in industries can be mainly classified into electrolytic copper (copper content: 99.9%~99.95%) and refined copper (copper content: 99.0%~99.7%).

Demand for electrolytic copper is daily increasing, which promote the production capacity and output volume of electrolytic copper.

The global copper sulphate market is currently being driven by a continuously increasing global population and an ever-growing demand for food.
