What is a sweet supari project report?
A sweet supari project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a unit that cuts, roasts, sugar-coats and flavours dried areca nut into a packed mouth freshener. It covers the process, machinery, raw materials, licences, project cost, means of finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even that a bank checks before lending.
Entrepreneurs use it to size the unit and apply for a term loan; lenders and CAs use it to judge whether the plant can repay from its own cash flow.
Also known as: meethi supari project report, sweet scented supari project report, sweet supari business plan, DPR for sweet supari manufacturing.
What a bank checks in a sweet supari project report
A credit officer looks first at the few numbers that decide whether a supari unit can repay. These are the values in our sample report and why each one matters.
Areca nut, sugar and flavours take more than half of every rupee of sales. A report showing far less has usually priced areca nut from an old, cheap season.
Areca nut prices at the Karnataka, Kerala and Assam markets swing between seasons. Lenders want to see what a price rise does to profit and DSCR.
Small pouches and jars cost far more per kg than bulk packs. The pack mix in your sales plan must match the packing cost in the report.
Wholesalers and pan shop distributors expect short credit. Together with 15 days of raw material stock, it sets the cash credit limit, ₹17.05 lakh in the sample.
Values are the assumptions in our illustrative sample. Your report uses figures for your capacity, suppliers and markets.

Sweet supari manufacturing process
Sweet supari is made in batches, and most of the skill lies in the cut and the coating. Taste and texture depend on getting the moisture right before sugar goes on.
- Grading and cleaning
Dried areca nuts are sorted by size and colour, and husk, stones and mouldy or insect-damaged nuts are removed.
- Cutting
A supari cutting machine slices the nuts into fine flakes or small pieces; an even cut is what buyers notice first.
- Roasting
The pieces are roasted in a rotary roaster at controlled heat, which lowers moisture and takes away the raw, astringent edge.
- Sugar coating
Roasted pieces tumble in stainless steel coating pans while sugar syrup is added in thin layers, each dried before the next.
- Flavouring
Menthol, flavours such as rose, saffron or cardamom, and permitted colours are mixed in a drum once the coating has cooled.
- Drying and sieving
The coated supari is dried in a tray dryer to a low moisture level and sieved to remove sugar dust and lumps.
- Packing
The product is packed in laminated pouches, strips or jars that carry the statutory health warning and the Legal Metrology declarations.
Raw materials for sweet supari
Areca nut is bought dried, as chali or cut pieces, from traders and cooperatives in Karnataka, Kerala and Assam. Check every lot for moisture and mould, because damp nuts spoil the coating and shorten shelf life.
| Raw material | Share of cost | Year 3 (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Areca nut (dried chali grade) | 64% | 121.66 |
| Sugar | 18% | 34.22 |
| Menthol and food flavours | 10% | 19.01 |
| Permitted food colours and edible glazing agents | 4% | 7.60 |
| Cardamom and fennel | 4% | 7.60 |
| Total | 100% | 190.09 |
Year 3 purchases in our illustrative sample, at 70% of capacity. Packing material is costed separately.
Machinery for a sweet supari unit
Most machines are stainless steel and sized by batch. The coating pans are the largest item, because output is limited by how many batches you can coat and dry in a shift.
| Machine | What it does | Sample cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Areca nut grader and destoner | Sorts nuts and removes stones and husk | 5.46 |
| Supari cutting machine | Slices nuts into flakes or pieces | 8.49 |
| Rotary roaster | Roasts the pieces evenly | 8.49 |
| Stainless steel sugar coating pans | Builds the sugar coat in layers | 12.13 |
| Flavour mixing drum | Blends in menthol, flavour and colour | 4.85 |
| Tray dryer | Dries the coated supari | 6.07 |
| Vibro sieve | Removes dust and lumps | 3.03 |
| Automatic pouch packing machine | Fills and seals pouches by weight | 9.10 |
| Quality control laboratory equipment | Checks moisture and weight | 3.03 |
| Total plant and machinery | 60.65 | |

Licences and state rules for sweet supari
Supari is a regulated food. Apart from the usual registrations, check three things before you design packs or pick markets: the health warning, the ingredient limits and the orders in your sales states.
| FSSAI licence | A state licence for turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore, which covers a unit of the sample's size; a central licence above ₹20 crore |
|---|---|
| Health warning on packs | FSSAI labelling rules require every package of supari, and its advertising, to carry a warning that chewing supari is injurious to health |
| Ingredients | FSSAI rules prohibit tobacco and nicotine as ingredients in any food, so sweet supari must contain neither |
| State food safety orders | Maharashtra has prohibited flavoured, scented or additive-mixed areca nut under Section 30 of the Food Safety and Standards Act. Check the current orders of each state you plan to sell in |
| GST classification | Scented sweet supari falls under tariff item 2106 90 30, betel nut product known as supari (CBIC circular). Confirm the current rate with your CA |
| Packaged goods | Legal Metrology registration and the declarations required on pre-packed pouches and jars |
| Business and plant | Udyam and GST registration, and consent to establish and operate from the State Pollution Control Board |
Check your market first: a state order on flavoured supari can shut a sales region for a year at a time. Plan for at least two permitted states before you fix capacity.
Loans and schemes for a sweet supari unit
Supari units need more care with scheme eligibility than most food units. Confirm it in writing before you count on any subsidy.
PMEGP
Manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakhMargin-money subsidy of 15–35% of project cost. The negative list excludes intoxicant items such as pan, so ask the KVIC, KVIB or DIC office whether your product qualifies.
Mudra
Smaller loans for micro unitsFor a first unit with one coating line, bought-in cut supari and a rented shed.
MSME term loan
Mid-size and large unitsA term loan plus a cash credit limit, the structure in our sample: ₹82.22 lakh and ₹17.05 lakh.
Scheme limits and lists change. Confirm current terms with the bank or the scheme office before applying.
Mistakes that weaken a project report on sweet supari
- Costing areca nut from one good season
Areca prices move sharply year to year. A report that uses a single low price overstates profit and fails the bank's sensitivity test.
- Ignoring weight loss in processing
Grading rejects, cutting dust, roasting moisture loss and sieving fines all reduce saleable output below the areca nut you buy.
- Assuming you can sell in every state
Flavoured supari is prohibited in some states. Sales plans must name the states you will sell in and show that the product is allowed there.
- Using retail pouch prices for revenue
Distributors buy well below the printed MRP. Our sample prices sweet supari at ₹224 per kg ex-factory, before GST and trade margins.
- Leaving out moisture control
Supari that is packed damp turns sticky and grows mould. Budget for the dryer, a moisture meter and barrier laminates, or returns will eat the margin.

Sweet Supari project report: frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to start a sweet supari manufacturing unit?
A small unit making 100–200 kg a day in a rented shed needs roughly ₹15–35 lakh, and a 300–500 kg per day unit about ₹45–90 lakh. Our sample report models a 730 kg per day unit at ₹109.63 lakh, including land, building and working capital margin. These are indicative figures; your own report works out the cost for your capacity and location.
What raw materials are used in sweet supari?
Dried areca nut is the main input, followed by sugar, menthol and food flavours, permitted colours and glazing agents, and spices such as cardamom and fennel. In our sample report areca nut is 64% of raw material cost and sugar 18%. Areca nut prices change from season to season, so the report should test a price rise.
Which machines are needed for sweet supari making?
You need a grader and destoner to clean the nuts, a supari cutting machine, a rotary roaster and stainless steel sugar coating pans. A flavour mixing drum, tray dryer, vibro sieve and automatic pouch packing machine complete the line, with a small laboratory for moisture checks. In our sample report the coating pans are the largest machinery item at ₹12.13 lakh.
Is sweet supari manufacturing profitable?
In our illustrative sample, a 730 kg per day unit selling at ₹224 per kg earns ₹26.12 lakh net profit in Year 3. That is a 23.8% return on investment, with break-even at 44.5% of capacity. Real profit depends on areca nut buying, the pouch and jar mix, distributor margins and whether your target states allow flavoured supari.
Can I get a PMEGP loan for a sweet supari unit?
Possibly, but check eligibility first. PMEGP covers manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakh with a margin-money subsidy, yet its negative list excludes intoxicant items such as pan. Supari is not named in that list, so get written confirmation from the KVIC, KVIB or DIC office before you build the plan around the subsidy.
Sweet supari ka business kaise shuru kare?
Start by choosing your market states and confirming that flavoured supari is allowed there. Then fix the capacity and pack sizes, find a dependable areca nut supplier, take an FSSAI licence and Udyam registration, and get a project report for the bank loan. Most units start with a few distributors nearby and add jars and private label later.
Is the sweet supari project report PDF free, and can I use it for a loan?
The sample is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report. Its figures are representative and not based on a real project, so it should not be submitted to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own capacity, location and loan scheme.
