What is a pvc wire cable project report?
A PVC wire cable project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a house wire unit. The unit draws copper rod into fine strands, bunches them into a conductor and extrudes flame-retardant PVC insulation over it. The report sets out the process, machinery, raw materials, BIS licence, project cost, finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even.
Entrepreneurs and electrical traders use it to size a plant and apply for a term loan, and bank credit officers use it to judge repayment.
Also known as: project report on PVC wire cable, PVC wire cable business plan, house wire manufacturing project report, PVC insulated wire DPR.
What a bank checks in a PVC wire cable project report
A wire unit turns over a lot of money on a small margin, so lenders look hard at copper cost and credit days. These are the values in our sample report and why each one matters.
Copper and PVC take most of every rupee of sales. A report showing a much lower share is usually overstating profit or using an old copper price.
Copper rod is priced off the London Metal Exchange and moves every week. Credit officers expect a test of how a copper rise hits profit before selling prices catch up.
Electrical dealers buy on credit. In the sample, trade receivables are the largest part of working capital, which is why the cash credit limit is ₹304 lakh.
DSCR (debt service coverage ratio) is cash available for loan instalments divided by the instalments. Banks usually look for the weakest year to stay above about 1.2.
Values are the assumptions in our illustrative sample. Your report uses figures for your capacity, suppliers and market.
PVC wire cable manufacturing plant cost in India

PVC wire cable manufacturing process
House wire is made in seven stages, from 8 mm copper rod to a sealed 90 metre coil. Small units often buy bunched conductor and start at stage four.
- Rod breakdown
The 8 mm copper rod is pulled through tungsten carbide dies to an intermediate size of about 1.5–2 mm.
- Fine drawing and annealing
A multi-wire machine draws several wires at once to strand size, and an inline annealer heats them so they become soft and flexible again.
- Bunching
Fine strands are twisted together into a class 2 or class 5 flexible conductor of the cross section being made, such as 1.0, 1.5 or 2.5 sq mm.
- Insulation extrusion
FR PVC compound is melted in the extruder and laid over the conductor at the thickness IS 694 sets for that size, then cooled in a water trough.
- Spark testing and printing
Every metre passes a spark tester that finds pinholes and thin spots, and an inkjet prints the size, voltage grade and licence details.
- Coiling and packing
Wire is wound into 90 metre coils, checked for length and weight, and shrink packed for dealers.
- Routine tests
Conductor resistance is checked on each coil, with insulation thickness and high voltage tests done in the plant laboratory.
Raw materials for PVC wire
Electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) copper rod comes from a few large refiners and is priced daily against the metal exchange. FR PVC compound is bought from compounders by grade, and the grade must pass the flammability test for the FR category you print on the wire.
| Raw material | Share of cost | Year 3 (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Copper wire rod 8 mm (ETP grade) | 85% | 1,119.27 |
| FR PVC insulation compound | 13% | 171.18 |
| Colour masterbatch and printing ink | 2% | 26.34 |
| Total | 100% | 1,316.79 |
Machinery for a PVC wire unit
The insulation extrusion line is the largest single item in the sample. Drawing dies, extruder screws and spark tester electrodes are the main wear parts to budget for each year.
| Machine | What it does | Sample cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Rod breakdown machine | Reduces 8 mm rod to intermediate wire | 45.33 |
| Multi-wire drawing machine with inline annealer | Draws to strand size and softens the wire | 55.40 |
| High speed bunching machine | Twists strands into a flexible conductor | 30.22 |
| PVC insulation extrusion line | Applies and cools the PVC insulation | 62.95 |
| Spark tester and inkjet printer | Finds insulation faults and marks the wire | 12.59 |
| Automatic coiling and packing machine | Winds and packs 90 metre coils | 20.14 |
| Cable testing laboratory equipment | Runs the tests BIS expects in-house | 25.18 |
| Total plant and machinery | 251.81 | |

Who buys PVC house wire?
Demand comes from new flats and houses, rewiring of older buildings, shops, offices and small factories. Most wire moves through electrical wholesalers and contractors, who stock a few sizes in many colours and reorder often.
National brands lead retail sales, so a new unit usually wins on a regional dealer network, dependable supply and a fair price for ISI-marked FR wire. Contractors and panel builders also care about exact cross section and coil length, which they check.
- Electrical wholesalers and dealers
- Electrical contractors
- Builders and housing developers
- Control panel builders
- Government and institutional buyers
Where a new unit wins: buying copper rod against confirmed dealer orders, rather than for stock, keeps margins steady when the copper price swings.
BIS licence and approvals for a PVC wire unit
PVC wire is a regulated product. Without a BIS licence you cannot legally sell it, so the licence belongs on the project timeline, not after it.
| Product standard and QCO | IS 694 for PVC insulated cables up to and including 1,100 V; listed in the Quality Control Order for electrical wires and cables, so a BIS licence and ISI mark are compulsory |
|---|---|
| In-house laboratory | The BIS product manual for IS 694 lists test equipment such as a Kelvin double bridge, high voltage and spark testers, a tensile tester and ageing ovens; some tests can be sent to a recognised lab |
| Business registration | Udyam (MSME) registration and GST registration |
| Pollution board consent | Consent to establish and operate from the State Pollution Control Board; the CPCB 2020 Orange list includes wire drawing and copper rod and wire making, so confirm the category with your state board |
| Factory and power | Factory licence where worker thresholds apply, and an industrial power connection for the drawing and extrusion load |
Loans and schemes for a PVC wire unit
PMEGP
Manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakhMargin-money subsidy of 15–35% for new units. Fits only a small insulating unit that buys conductor.
Mudra
Collateral-free loans up to ₹20 lakhCan fund part of a very small start, such as a coiling and packing setup, but not a licensed wire plant on its own.
MSME term loan with CGTMSE
Guarantee cover up to ₹10 croreThe usual route for a unit with its own drawing line. CGTMSE cover lets eligible micro and small units borrow without collateral.
Scheme limits as of October 2026. They change, so confirm current terms with the bank or the scheme portal before applying.
Mistakes that weaken a PVC wire project report
- Pricing sales at list price
House wire is sold to dealers at a large discount to the printed list price. Revenue built on list prices makes the DSCR look far better than it will be.
- Using one old copper price
A copper price from months ago can swing profit either way. The report should use a recent rod price and show what happens if it rises 10%.
- Leaving out the BIS lab and licence time
Test equipment, calibration and the licence process add cost and months before the first ISI-marked sale.
- Ignoring scrap and start-up waste
Drawing breaks, extrusion start-up and size changes all create copper and PVC scrap. Output and material cost must allow for it.
- Underestimating dealer credit
With 60 days of credit and 45 days of rod stock, working capital is large. A small cash credit limit leaves the unit short in its first year.

PVC Wire Cable project report: frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to start a PVC wire manufacturing unit?
An indicative small unit that buys bunched copper conductor and runs one insulation line needs about ₹50–120 lakh. A mid-size unit with its own drawing and bunching needs about ₹2–4 crore. Our sample report models a 630 kg per day plant at ₹559 lakh, including ₹101 lakh of working capital margin. Your own report prices your capacity, site and machine make.
What raw materials are used to make PVC wire?
Copper wire rod and flame-retardant (FR) PVC insulation compound are the two main inputs, with colour masterbatch and printing ink as minor items. In our sample report copper is 85% of raw material cost and PVC compound is 13%. Because copper dominates, the report should show how a rise in copper price affects profit and DSCR.
Which machines are needed for PVC house wire manufacturing?
You need a rod breakdown machine, a multi-wire drawing machine with an inline annealer and a bunching machine. After that come a PVC insulation extrusion line, a spark tester with an inkjet printer, a coiling and packing machine and a testing laboratory. In our sample the extrusion line is the largest single item at ₹62.95 lakh out of ₹251.81 lakh of machinery.
Is BIS certification mandatory for PVC wires in India?
Yes. PVC insulated cables up to and including 1,100 V are listed under IS 694 in the Quality Control Order for electrical wires and cables. They need a BIS licence and the ISI mark before sale. BIS also expects a working in-house laboratory, so plan the lab and licence time into your project schedule.
Is PVC wire manufacturing profitable?
It can be, but margins are thin because copper is most of the cost. In our illustrative sample, a 630 kg per day unit earns a 19% return on investment in Year 3. It breaks even at about 47% of capacity and pays back in about 4 years. Real results depend on copper buying, scrap control, dealer credit and brand acceptance.
Can I get a PMEGP or Mudra loan for a PVC wire unit?
Only for a small unit. PMEGP covers manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakh with a 15–35% margin-money subsidy, and Mudra loans go up to ₹20 lakh. Most wire units with their own drawing line cost more and use an MSME term loan, often backed by CGTMSE cover. Every lender asks for a project report with projections and DSCR.
Is the sample PVC wire cable project report PDF free, and can I use it for a loan?
The sample is free to open and download. It shows the format and depth of an NPCS report. Its figures come from typical ratios, not a real project, so it should not go to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own capacity, location and scheme.
