What is a non woven fabric project report?

A non woven fabric project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a unit that turns polypropylene granules into spunbond fabric on a continuous extrusion line. It sets out the process, machinery, raw materials, market, project cost, means of finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even that a bank needs before it funds the plant.

Entrepreneurs and bag makers moving upstream use it to size a line and apply for a term loan; lenders use it to judge whether thin fabric margins can carry the repayments.

Also known as: spunbond non woven fabric project report, PP non woven fabric plant DPR, non woven fabric business plan, project report on non woven fabric.

What a bank checks in a non woven fabric project

A spunbond unit sells a commodity made almost entirely from one polymer, so lenders look hard at a few cost lines. These are the values in our sample report and why each one gets questioned.

64.7%Raw material share of sales

Polypropylene is bought at market prices. A report showing a much lower share is quietly assuming a higher fabric price or cheaper polymer.

92%PP granules share of raw material cost

Masterbatch and additives are small. Banks expect the report to test a rise in PP price, because a few rupees per kg moves profit sharply.

6.6%Power and fuel share of sales

The extruder, spin beam heaters, chiller, blowers and calender run round the clock. Power is the second largest cost after polymer.

1.39Average DSCR (debt service coverage ratio)

DSCR is the cash available for each rupee of loan instalment. The sample's lowest year is 1.21, so lenders will want PP and price sensitivity tables.

Values are the assumptions and results in our illustrative sample. Your report uses figures for your line, suppliers and buyers.

Non woven fabric manufacturing plant cost in India

Cost depends mainly on line width and the number of spinning beams. Output is quoted in kg per day at a reference GSM, so the same line makes fewer kg when it runs light hygiene grades. The middle tier is the unit in our sample report; the others are indicative.

Non woven fabric manufacturing process (spunbond)

Spunbond is one continuous line: polymer goes in at one end and finished rolls come off the other within minutes. Because nothing is spun into yarn or woven, the line replaces several separate textile stages.

  1. Dosing and melting

PP granules and colour masterbatch are dosed by weight into a single-screw extruder and melted, typically at about 230–250 °C.

  2. Filtering and spinning

A melt filter removes gels and dirt, then a metering pump pushes the melt through a spinneret with thousands of fine holes.

  3. Quenching and drawing

Cooled air from the chiller sets the filaments, and high-speed air stretches them to a fine, even denier.

  4. Web laying

Filaments fall at random onto a moving suction belt; belt speed sets the GSM of the fabric.

  5. Thermal bonding

A heated calender with one embossed and one smooth roll fuses the web at points, which gives the familiar dotted pattern and strength.

  6. Winding and slitting

Fabric is wound into jumbo rolls, then slit and rewound to the width and length each buyer orders.

Raw materials for non woven fabric

The main input is PP homopolymer of a fibre or spunbond grade, which has a higher melt flow than the raffia grade used for woven sacks. Indian producers sell it in 25 kg bags, and PP prices move with crude oil and propylene, so units keep about a month of stock.

Who buys non woven fabric and how the 60 GSM rule shapes demand

Most fabric from small spunbond units goes to carry bag makers, who buy coloured rolls in 60–100 GSM. Lighter white grades of about 15–30 GSM go to hygiene and medical converters, who test every lot for strength and uniformity.

  • Non woven carry bag and promotional bag makers
  • Hygiene and medical disposable converters
  • Agriculture and horticulture users (crop covers, nursery bags)
  • Furniture, mattress and upholstery makers
  • Fabric traders and distributors

The rule that set the floor: non-woven plastic carry bags below 60 GSM have been banned since 30 September 2021. Bag makers now need fabric that holds 60 GSM roll after roll, so tight GSM control is a selling point, not just a quality target.

Licences and approvals for a non woven fabric unit

Business registrationUdyam (MSME) and GST registration. Nonwovens fall under HSN heading 5603; GST rates were revised from 22 September 2025, so confirm the current rate with your CA
Pollution board consentConsent to establish and consent to operate from the State Pollution Control Board; the category is set by each state
Carry bag rulePlastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2021: non-woven plastic carry bags must be at least 60 GSM
BIS and QCOsThe Ministry of Textiles has Quality Control Orders for geotextiles, agro, medical, protective and indutech textiles. Check whether your end use is covered before selling into it
Factory and fireFactory licence where the worker threshold applies, and a fire NOC for polymer and roll storage
PowerIndustrial, usually HT, connection sanctioned for the extruder, heaters, chiller and compressor load

Loans and schemes for a non woven fabric unit

A spunbond line is too large for the small-loan schemes most first-time founders hear about, so plan for a regular term loan.

MSME term loan and cash credit

Main route for a spunbond line

The term loan funds the plant; a cash credit limit funds PP stock and buyer credit.

CGTMSE cover

Loans up to ₹10 crore, from 1 April 2025

Guarantee cover for micro and small enterprises, so the lender needs no collateral for the covered loan.

PMEGP

Manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakh

Margin-money subsidy of 15–35%. It fits a non woven bag-making unit that buys fabric, not a fabric line.

Scheme limits change. Confirm current terms with the bank or the scheme portal before applying.

Mistakes that weaken a non woven fabric project report

  • Quoting capacity without a GSM

A line rated at 40 GSM or more makes far fewer kg a day at 20 GSM. The report should state the GSM mix behind its output.

  • Taking a stale PP price

Polymer is most of the cost. A report built on last year's PP rate, with no sensitivity test, overstates profit and DSCR.

  • Ignoring start-up and edge-trim waste

Every restart, colour change and edge trim makes off-grade fabric. Saleable output must allow for it, with or without a reclaim unit.

  • No plan for power cuts

A continuous line that trips loses polymer and time on restart. Budget for a stable connection and backup for the spin beam heaters.

  • Pricing fabric like finished bags

Fabric sells per kg ex-factory to converters. Using bag or trader prices inflates revenue.

Non Woven Fabric project report: frequently asked questions

How much does a non woven fabric manufacturing plant cost in India?

A compact 1,600 mm spunbond line making about 2–3 MT per day needs roughly ₹3.5–5 crore in all, and a 3,200 mm multi-beam plant ₹15–30 crore. Our sample report models a 4,000 kg per day unit at ₹655 lakh. These are indicative figures; the real cost depends on line width, number of beams, machine make, land and power connection.

Is non woven fabric manufacturing profitable?

It can be, but margins are thin because polypropylene takes most of the selling price. Our illustrative 4,000 kg per day unit earns a 14% return on investment in Year 3. It breaks even at 49% of capacity and pays back in about 4.6 years. Profit depends on PP buying, uptime, waste control and the GSM mix you sell.

What raw material is used to make non woven fabric?

Spunbond non woven fabric is made from polypropylene (PP) homopolymer granules of a fibre or spunbond grade, with colour masterbatch and small amounts of UV, softener or other additives. In our sample report PP granules make up 92% of raw material cost, so the PP price decides profit more than any other input.

What is the price of a non woven fabric making machine?

Complete spunbond lines listed by Indian sellers in October 2026 range from about ₹1.6 crore to ₹5.5 crore, depending on width, beams and origin. A full plant also needs a slitter rewinder, chiller, compressor, power backup and material handling. Our sample report puts total plant and machinery at ₹318.40 lakh for a 4,000 kg per day unit.

Are non woven bags banned in India?

No. The Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2021 banned non-woven plastic carry bags below 60 GSM from 30 September 2021. Bags of 60 GSM and above remain allowed under the central rules, although some states add their own restrictions. Fabric sold to carry bag makers should therefore be produced and tested at 60 GSM or more.

Can I get a PMEGP or bank loan for a non woven fabric unit?

A spunbond fabric line costs far more than the PMEGP limit of ₹50 lakh for manufacturing. It is usually funded by an MSME term loan plus a cash credit limit. Micro and small units can seek CGTMSE cover on loans up to ₹10 crore. PMEGP suits a smaller non woven bag-making unit that buys fabric.

Is the non woven fabric project report PDF free, and can I use it for a loan?

The sample PDF is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report. Its figures are representative and not based on a real project, so it should not be submitted to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own line, location and loan scheme.
