What is a mink blanket project report?
A mink blanket project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a plant that knits polyester yarn into pile fabric on raschel machines. The fabric is then printed, raised and finished into soft blankets. The report sets out the process, machinery, yarn mix, market, project cost, finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even.
Promoters use it to size the plant and raise a term loan; banks use it to judge whether the plant can repay through a winter-led sales cycle.
Also known as: mink blanket business plan, project report on mink blanket, raschel blanket project report, DPR for mink blanket manufacturing, polyester mink blanket plant report.
Mink blanket manufacturing plant cost in India
Our sample report models an integrated plant that knits, prints and finishes 7,600 kg of mink blanket a day, or 25,08,000 kg a year over 330 working days. It starts at 60% capacity and reaches 80% in Year 5, selling at ₹191 per kg ex-factory.
Blankets are sold by weight class, so the report works in kilograms. A 4 kg double bed blanket and a 1.5 kg single bed blanket come off the same line; the mix only changes the piece count.

Mink blanket manufacturing process
A mink blanket starts as a sandwich: two thin ground fabrics knitted at the same time and tied together by long pile yarn. Cutting that sandwich in half gives two pile fabrics, which are then printed and finished.
- Warping
Polyester ground yarn is wound in parallel onto warp beams that feed the knitting machine.
- Raschel knitting
A double needle bar raschel machine knits both ground fabrics and lays pile yarn between them, so pile height is set by the gap between the needle bars.
- Splitting
A travelling blade cuts the pile through the middle and separates the sandwich into two equal pile fabrics.
- Dyeing and printing
Fabric is dyed in high temperature jet machines or printed with disperse dye paste on a flat bed screen printer, one screen per colour.
- Steaming and washing
Steam fixes the disperse dye into the polyester, and washing removes leftover thickener so the pile does not feel stiff.
- Stentering
The stenter dries the fabric and heat sets it to a fixed width, which stops the blanket shrinking or curling later.
- Raising, shearing and polishing
Wire rollers brush the pile open, shears cut it to one height and a heated polishing roller gives the glossy mink handle.
- Making up and packing
Fabric is cut to blanket size, joined back to back for 2 ply, edge bound, weighed and packed in printed PVC bags.
Integrated plant or making-up unit: which route fits?
Most of the cost sits in the knitting and wet processing stages. How many of them you do in-house decides the project size, the approvals you need and how much control you have over quality.
| Route | What you install | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Integrated plant (our sample) | Raschel knitting, splitting, dyeing and printing, finishing and making up | Highest cost and approvals, but full control of weight, pile and design |
| Knit and finish, outsource printing | Raschel knitting, splitting, raising and making up | Avoids dyeing effluent on site, but print lead times depend on a job worker |
| Making-up unit | Cutting, 2 ply joining, edge binding and packing | Smallest project, but margins depend on the price of bought-in finished fabric |
Why the route changes approvals: once you dye or print on site, the plant counts as textile processing with effluent. State boards place that in the Red category, and you need an effluent treatment plant.
Raw materials for mink blankets
Polyester pile yarn is the single biggest purchase. Its denier and filament count decide how soft and dense the pile feels, so most plants fix two or three yarn specifications and buy them on contract.
| Raw material | Share of cost | Year 3 (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Polyester pile yarn | 58% | 945.72 |
| Polyester ground yarn | 22% | 358.72 |
| Disperse dyes and printing paste | 10% | 163.06 |
| Softeners and textile auxiliaries | 5% | 81.53 |
| Edge binding tape and sewing thread | 5% | 81.53 |
| Total | 100% | 1,630.56 |
Raw materials are 48.6% of sales in the sample. Stock is held for 45 days because yarn prices move with crude oil and polyester feedstock.
Mink blanket making machines and their cost
The raschel knitting machines take ₹416.95 lakh, about 38% of the machinery budget, and set the output of the whole plant. Every other machine is sized to keep them running.
| Machine | What it does | Sample cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Double needle bar raschel knitting machines | Knit the pile sandwich fabric | 416.95 |
| Pile splitting machine | Cuts the sandwich into two pile fabrics | 54.86 |
| High temperature jet dyeing machines | Dye polyester fabric in solid shades | 109.72 |
| Flat bed screen printing machine | Prints floral, animal and check designs | 109.72 |
| Steamer and washing range | Fixes dye and washes out paste | 65.84 |
| Stenter for heat setting and drying | Dries and sets fabric width | 109.72 |
| Raising, shearing and polishing machines | Open, level and gloss the pile | 98.75 |
| Steam boiler and thermic fluid heater | Supply heat to steamer, jets and stenter | 65.83 |
| Cutting, binding and packing machines | Turn fabric into packed blankets | 43.89 |
| Effluent treatment plant | Treats dyeing and washing water | 21.95 |
| Total plant and machinery | 1,097.23 | |
Costs are the sample report's estimates. Many raschel lines are imported, so get current quotations with freight and duty before you finalise.
Manpower and power for a mink blanket plant
Power and fuel cost ₹296.93 lakh in Year 3 of the sample, or 8.9% of sales. Knitting runs on electricity, while the steamer, jet dyeing machines and stenter run on steam and thermic fluid, so fuel choice for the boiler matters.
| Category | Number | Annual cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Management, supervision and administration | 29 | 93.96 |
| Skilled workers and operators | 68 | 138.72 |
| Semi-skilled and unskilled workers | 97 | 128.04 |
| Total | 194 | 360.72 |
Raschel knitters, print masters and stenter operators are the skilled posts that most affect output and quality.
Licences, approvals and GST for mink blanket manufacturing
Beyond Udyam, GST, factory and fire approvals, a mink blanket plant needs these, as of October 2026.
| Pollution board consent | Consent to establish and operate from the State Pollution Control Board. Textile processing with bleaching or dyeing is listed in the Red category; a unit that only knits and makes up, with no dyeing or washing, is usually placed in a lower category |
|---|---|
| Effluent treatment | An effluent treatment plant for dyeing, printing and washing water, sized as the board's consent requires |
| Boiler registration | Steam boilers must be registered before use under the Boilers Act, 2025, which replaced the 1923 Act from 1 May 2025 |
| Legal Metrology | Registration as a manufacturer or packer of packaged commodities, with the declarations the Packaged Commodities Rules require printed on each blanket pack |
| GST | Chapter 63 (blankets, heading 6301). 5% for made-up articles with a sale value up to ₹2,500 per piece, under the rate notification effective 22 September 2025 |
Rules differ by state. Confirm the category and conditions with your State Pollution Control Board before buying land.
Market for mink blankets in India
Demand is seasonal. Retail sales peak from October to January, so plants knit and stock through the summer and ship most of their output to wholesalers before the first cold spell.
Panipat, Ludhiana and Amritsar are the main domestic clusters. Imported Korean and Chinese blankets set the price at the premium end. Indian plants compete on print designs, weight for the price and dependable supply to distributors in the northern and eastern states.
- Blanket wholesalers and distributors
- Bedding and home furnishing retailers
- Online marketplace sellers
- Hotels, hostels and institutions
- Government and NGO relief buyers
- Exporters of home textiles
Plan cash for the off-season: the sample holds 45 days of finished goods and gives 45 days of credit, and receivables are the largest current asset in Year 1. A plant that sells only in winter needs more than that.
Mistakes that weaken a mink blanket project report
- Pricing per piece without fixing the weight
A double bed blanket can weigh anything from under 2 kg to 4 kg. Revenue must be worked out per kg, with a stated product mix.
- Spreading sales evenly across the year
Most blankets sell before winter. Monthly cash flow has to show stock building up in summer, or the working capital limit comes out too small.
- Leaving out shearing and polishing loss
Pile is cut away during shearing and edges are trimmed at making up. Saleable weight is less than knitted weight.
- Counting printing in-house without the ETP
A plan that prints on site but has no effluent treatment cost or Red category consent will not get through the pollution board or a careful lender.
- Ignoring import duty and freight on raschel machines
Quoting only the ex-works machine price understates plant and machinery and the term loan needed.

Mink Blanket project report: frequently asked questions
What is the cost of a mink blanket manufacturing plant in India?
Our sample report models a 7,600 kg per day integrated plant at ₹2,248 lakh, of which plant and machinery is ₹1,097 lakh. A smaller unit that buys finished mink fabric and only cuts, binds and packs costs far less. The real figure depends on how many raschel machines you install and whether you dye and print in-house.
Which machine is used to make mink blankets?
The core machine is a double needle bar raschel warp knitting machine. It knits two ground fabrics joined by pile yarn, which a splitting machine then cuts into two pile fabrics. Printing, steaming, stenter, raising, shearing and polishing machines finish the fabric, and cutting and binding machines turn it into blankets.
What raw material is used in mink blankets?
Most mink blankets made in India are 100% polyester. Polyester filament yarn forms the pile and a finer polyester yarn forms the ground fabric. In our sample report, pile yarn is 58% and ground yarn 22% of raw material cost, with disperse dyes, printing paste, softeners and binding tape making up the rest.
Is a mink blanket business profitable?
In our illustrative sample, the plant earns a 12% return on investment in Year 3, breaks even at 50% of capacity and pays back in about 4.8 years. Margins depend on yarn prices, how well you plan stock for the winter season, print designs that sell, and the credit you give wholesalers.
What is the GST rate on mink blankets?
Blankets fall under chapter 63 of the GST tariff. As of October 2026, made-up textile articles with a sale value up to ₹2,500 per piece attract 5% GST under the rate notification in force since 22 September 2025. Pieces priced above that limit are not covered by this rate, so confirm the rate for your price band with your tax adviser.
What is the difference between 1 ply and 2 ply mink blankets?
A 1 ply blanket is a single printed pile fabric with bound edges. A 2 ply blanket joins two pile fabrics back to back, so it is heavier, warmer and reversible, and it sells at a higher price per piece. Two-ply blankets use more fabric per piece, so the product mix changes yarn needs and output in pieces.
Is the mink blanket project report PDF free, and can I use it for a loan?
The sample PDF is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report. Its figures are representative and not taken from a real project, so it should not be submitted to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own capacity, location and product mix.
