What is a e rickshaw e loader project report?
An e rickshaw e loader project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a unit that fabricates chassis and assembles battery-powered three-wheelers, both the passenger e-rickshaw and the goods e-loader or e-cart. It sets out the process, machinery, bought-out parts, type approval, project cost, means of finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even a lender needs.
Entrepreneurs and dealers moving into assembly use it to size the plant and apply for a term loan or PMEGP; banks use it to judge whether the unit can repay.
Also known as: e-rickshaw manufacturing project report, e-rickshaw assembly business plan, e-cart manufacturing project report, battery rickshaw plant DPR, electric tuk tuk project report.
What a bank checks in an e rickshaw e loader project report
An e-rickshaw plant is mostly an assembly business: bought-out parts make up most of the cost and the margin is earned on volume. Lenders test the report on these four numbers, shown here as used in our sample report.
Batteries, motors and steel take most of every rupee of sales. A report that shows a much lower share is overstating profit.
The battery set is the single largest bought-out item. Banks look for a test of what a rise in battery prices does to profit and DSCR.
Dealers sell to drivers on finance and expect credit from the assembler. Debtor days set the size of the cash credit limit.
DSCR (debt service coverage ratio) shows how many times cash earnings cover loan instalments and interest. Most lenders want it well above 1.2 in every year.
Values are the assumptions in our illustrative sample. Your report uses figures for your models, suppliers and dealer terms.
E rickshaw e loader manufacturing plant cost in India
Cost depends on how much you make in-house. A kit assembler buys painted chassis and bodies; a full unit cuts, welds and paints its own frames. The large tier is the unit in our sample report, which sells ₹1,916 lakh and keeps ₹116 lakh as net profit in Year 3.

₹30–50 lakh
About 1–3 vehicles a day from bought-in chassis and body kits
- Tools, jigs and test bench₹8–15 lakh
- Shed deposit and fit-out₹5–10 lakh
- Working capital margin₹10–20 lakh
Fits PMEGP, subject to limits
Fabrication and assembly unit
₹1.5–3 crore
About 600–1,200 vehicles a year with own welding and paint shop
- Machinery₹60–120 lakh
- Land and building, or lease₹50–100 lakh
- Working capital margin₹30–60 lakh
MSME term loan, often with CGTMSE cover

Smaller tiers are indicative. Type approval testing fees and the first battery stock come on top and vary by model count.
E rickshaw e loader manufacturing process
Passenger and loader models share the chassis, drivetrain and electricals, and differ mainly in the body. That lets one line build both, switching bodies at the assembly stage.
- Chassis fabrication
MS tubes and channels are cut, bent and MIG welded on fixed jigs, so every frame matches the type-approved drawing.
- Pretreatment and painting
Frames and panels are shot blasted, phosphated, primed and painted, then baked so the finish survives monsoon use.
- Drivetrain fitting
The rear axle with differential, BLDC motor, drum brakes, leaf or coil suspension and wheels go onto the chassis.
- Body fitting
The passenger body, seats and canopy, or the open or box loader tray, are bolted on as per the order.
- Electrical assembly
The wiring harness, controller, lights, horn, meter and battery set are fitted, connected and charged.
- Testing and pre-delivery inspection
Each vehicle is checked for speed limit, braking, lighting and battery charge, then road tested before dispatch.
Parts and raw materials for e-rickshaws and e-loaders
Most of the material bill is bought-out components rather than steel. The battery choice moves cost the most. Lead-acid sets are cheaper upfront; lithium-ion packs cost more but last longer, and only advanced batteries qualify for the PM E-DRIVE incentive.
| Item | Share of cost | Year 3 (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Lead acid or lithium traction battery set | 34% | 425.35 |
| BLDC hub motor, controller and differential | 18% | 225.19 |
| MS tubes, channels and sheet for chassis and body | 15% | 187.66 |
| Canopy, seats, glass and FRP or MS loader body | 13% | 162.64 |
| Tyres, wheel rims, axle and suspension kit | 10% | 125.10 |
| Wiring harness, lights, charger and electricals | 10% | 125.10 |
| Total | 100% | 1,251.04 |
Machinery for an e-rickshaw assembly plant
The welding and paint shops take the largest share of machinery spend. The test equipment is small in cost but matters for type approval, because every vehicle must leave the plant within the approved speed and braking limits.
| Machine | What it does | Sample cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Tube cutting and pipe bending machines | Cut and shape chassis and canopy tubes | 25.30 |
| MIG welding sets and chassis welding jigs | Weld frames to a fixed geometry | 42.16 |
| Sheet metal shearing and press brake | Make body panels and loader trays | 29.51 |
| Shot blasting and pretreatment tanks | Clean and phosphate steel before paint | 16.86 |
| Paint booth with baking oven | Prime, paint and cure frames and panels | 37.94 |
| Assembly line conveyor and hoists | Move vehicles through fitting stations | 25.30 |
| Battery and motor test bench with chargers | Check motors, controllers and battery sets | 16.86 |
| Roller brake tester and wheel alignment gauge | Final checks before dispatch | 16.86 |
| Total plant and machinery | 210.79 | |

Who buys e-rickshaws and e-loaders
Most passenger e-rickshaws are bought by owner drivers through local dealers on finance, so the dealer network is the real sales channel. Loaders sell to traders and delivery firms for short city trips, and municipal bodies buy e-carts with tipper or box bodies for door-to-door garbage collection.
- Owner drivers buying through dealers on finance
- E-rickshaw dealers and distributors
- Fleet and battery swapping operators
- Municipal corporations and nagar panchayats for e-carts
- Traders, kirana wholesalers and delivery firms
- Factories, campuses and resorts for internal transport
Where a new unit wins: drivers judge a brand on battery warranty and how fast spares arrive. An assembler that keeps dealers within a few hundred kilometres stocked with parts can hold its ground against bigger names.
Type approval and licences for e-rickshaw manufacturing
The vehicle approval matters more than the factory paperwork. Without a type-approved model, dealers cannot get your vehicles registered.
| Type approval | Certificate for each model and variant from a CMVR test agency such as ICAT or ARAI, with conformity of production checks afterwards |
|---|---|
| Vehicle limits | Top speed of 25 km/h. E-rickshaw: up to 4 passengers plus driver and 40 kg luggage. E-cart: up to 310 kg load plus driver |
| Tests during approval | Brakes, lighting, power and speed, gradeability, water wading and battery safety under AIS-156, among others |
| Sale documents | The manufacturer issues the sale certificate (Form 21) and roadworthiness certificate (Form 22) used for registration |
| Battery EPR | Producer registration on the CPCB portal under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, since batteries are sold inside your vehicles |
| Factory approvals | Udyam and GST registration, pollution board consent for welding and painting, factory licence and fire NOC as your state requires |

Mistakes that weaken an e-rickshaw project report
- Projecting sales before type approval
Testing each model takes time and money. A report that starts sales in month one, with no approval period, looks unrealistic to a lender.
- Pricing with the battery but costing without it
Vehicles are usually quoted with batteries. Leaving the battery set out of material cost inflates the margin by a third of the bill.
- Counting on PM E-DRIVE for lead-acid models
Only advanced-battery vehicles qualify. A lead-acid model priced as if buyers get the incentive will not sell at that price.
- No provision for warranty and spares
Battery and controller claims come back to the assembler. Leaving out warranty cost and spares stock under-states working capital.
- Building capacity ahead of dealers
Volume drives profit here. A plant sized for 2,000 vehicles with dealers for 500 will miss its DSCR in the early years.

E Rickshaw E Loader project report: frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to start an e-rickshaw manufacturing unit?
A kit assembly unit in a rented shed needs roughly ₹30–50 lakh, and a unit with its own chassis welding and paint shop about ₹1.5–3 crore. Our sample report models a 2,300 vehicles per year plant at ₹504 lakh, including land, building and working capital margin. These ranges are indicative; type approval testing and battery stock add to the cost.
Which licence is needed to manufacture e-rickshaws in India?
Each model needs a type approval certificate from a CMVR test agency such as ICAT or ARAI, and production must keep matching the approved model. You also need Udyam and GST registration, pollution board consent for welding and painting, and producer registration under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, because every vehicle is sold with a battery.
What is the difference between an e-rickshaw and an e-loader?
An e-rickshaw carries up to four passengers and the driver with 40 kg of luggage. An e-loader, called an e-cart in the rules, has a separate load body and carries up to 310 kg besides the driver. Both are limited to 25 km/h, share the same drivetrain and are type approved as separate models.
Is the e-rickshaw assembly business profitable?
In our illustrative sample, a 2,300 vehicles per year unit earns a 23% return on investment in Year 3, breaks even at 48% of capacity and pays back in about 3.6 years. Real margins depend on battery buying prices, dealer credit, warranty claims and how quickly the dealer network builds up.
Can I get a PMEGP loan for e-rickshaw assembly?
A small kit assembly unit can fit PMEGP, which covers manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakh with a margin-money subsidy of 15–35% depending on category and area. A unit with its own fabrication and paint shop usually costs more and takes an MSME term loan, often with CGTMSE guarantee cover.
E rickshaw banane ka business kaise shuru kare?
Start by choosing the models, passenger, loader or both, and get each one type approved by ICAT or ARAI. Then fix a shed, welding and paint equipment and battery and motor suppliers, and get a project report for the bank. Line up dealers in nearby districts before you build capacity, because sales move through dealers on finance.
Is the sample report free and can I use it for a loan?
The sample is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report; its figures are representative and not based on a real project, so it should not be submitted to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own models, capacity, location and loan scheme.
