Industrial Gases Projects

Industrial gas is a group of gases that are commercially manufactured and sold for uses in other applications. The most common industrial gases are:air gases - oxygen (O2), nitrogen (N2) and argon (Ar) rare gases - such as helium (He), krypton (Kr), xenon (Xe) and neon (Ne) and other gases like hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrous oxide (N2O) ,chlorine (Cl2), hydrogen chloride (HCl) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) ,acetylene (C2H2), methane (CH4) and propane (C3H8).

In addition, there are many different mixtures of these and other gases to meet the needs of specific applications. The industrial and medical gases industry serves a very large number of customers in the whole community. Industrial gases are essential for almost all manufacturing. Large quantities of oxygen, nitrogen and argon are used in the steel and metal industry. Shipyards and the automotive industry use acetylene, propane, mixtures of fuel gases and oxygen for cutting and welding. Liquid nitrogen is vital in recycling plastics, packaging and scrap tyres. The chemical industry employs all major industrial gases as a raw material or for inerting. The other smaller market segment consists of cylinder gas and mixtures.

According to the Freedonia group, inc., a Cleveland-based industry research firm, world demand for industrial gases is forecast to increase 6.9% annually to $36.8 billion in 2011, with volume exceeding 300-bcm (billion cubic meters). Asia/pacific is the largest consuming region because of rapid growth in developing industrial markets, especially those of china and India.

Coming back to India, there are presently over 300 small & medium size plants and approximately 25 large tonnage plants all over the country. These gases are supplied through pipelines to captive customers in adjacent factories; in cryogenic transport tanks for bulk deliveries to long distance customers; or filled in cylinders.

The present annual turnover of the gas industry, excluding captive production is about Rs. 3,000 crores ($650 million). With increased industrialization, the demand pattern of industrial gases is also changing fast. Modern application in the food processing industry, agro industries, healthcare and technology are growing at a tremendous pace. This has driven the industry to adopt stringent quality control systems and an efficient distribution network.

Major players in India include BOC India, INOX Air Products Ltd., Jindal Praxair Oxygen Co. Ltd., Air Liquide India Holding P.Ltd., Aims Industries Ltd etc.

The Indian gas industry is growing at an average rate of 12 per cent per annum during the last couple of years, with the industrial oxygen growing consistently at 15-17 per cent per annum. The growth of industrial gas industry can be easily forecast on the basis of projections of the steel and other metallurgical industry. Steel demand is seen rising by 10% in the fiscal year to march 2011, helped by higher spending on infrastructure will continue to drive growth of the gas industry. Natural gas comprises 9 % of India's primary energy consumption and it will be 14% of energy mix by 2010. Demand for natural gas is also likely to increase at an average annual growth rate of 7.3%.Metals production and fabrication will continue to be the largest market for industrial gases, accounting for 31% of total demand in value terms in coming years. The second largest market will be the chemical processing/petroleum refining segment. The medical/healthcare market, though smaller in size, will be the fastest growing and record gains from the expansion of healthcare services in developing nations and rapidly increasing use of home healthcare respiratory therapies in advanced economics. Hydrogen is gaining prominence and most companies are striving to develop technologies that can efficiently exploit the potential of hydrogen. Increased use of natural gas will create an opportunity for higher production of argon and carbon dioxide. The Industrial gas industry has a very bright future in the coming years.

ACETYLENE GAS PLANT - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue

Acetylene is an endothermic compound, its heat of formation being nearly 50kg.-cal. g. mol. Both the gas (tc, 37°; Pc, 62 atm.) and the liquid (b.p.,83.6°) are highly explosive, particularly under pressure. Acetylene is a colourless inflammable gas obtained by the action of water on calcium carbide. When pure, it has a slightly ethereal odour, but when produced from commercial calcium carbide, it has a distinct unpleasant odour due to the presence of traces of phosphene, etc. Colorless, flammable gas, odourless when pure, but ordinarily has a garlic like odour because of impurities. Mol. wt. of acetylene is 26.04. One pound of acetylene is equivalent to 14.5 cu ft. Soluble in acetone (2500 cc gas per 100 g, 30000 cc gas per 100 g at 12 atm), alcohol ( 600 cc per 100 g), water (100 cc per 100 g), and liquid ammonia at room temperature. Ignition temperature is 635°F and Vapor density (air = 1) : 0.91. The first commercial use of acetylene is as illuminant. Though superseded to a large extent by electricity, acetylene is still widely used as an illuminant for marine and aeronautical purposes in buoys, light houses, signaling lamps, etc. Large cylinders holding, in some cases, 500 c.ft. of dissolved acetylene and provided with automatic control and lighting devices are fitted to buoys. At present the most important use of acetylene is in the welding and cutting industry. Acetylene is also used very extensively as a fuel gas for the oxygen cutting process. Its high calorific value, ready portability and ease of manipulation, particularly in the dissolved state, make it superior to most other fuel gases. It is also employed in blowpipes called pistols to melt wires used in metal spraying. There are at present 86 plants producing dissolved acetylene gas with an installed capacity of 22 million cubic metre has been approved be issue of industrial licenses /letter of intents. Most of these approvals are integrated with the approval given for oxygen gas plants as acetylene gas is consumed along with oxygen gas for high temperature cutting/welding purpose. Dissolved Acetylene gas is one of the biggest users of Calcium Carbide. Dissolved Acetylene gas is used in helping of various metals and therefore widely used by various Engineering industries. It has been estimated that future production of dissolved Acetylene gas would increase at the rate of 8%. It is assumed that the production of dissolved Acetylene gas would increase at the rate at which engineering industry is expanding. It is understood from inquiries that 250 cum of Acetylene gas can be produced from 1 ton of Calcium Carbide.

Oxygen Plant - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

The great importance of the industrial gas, oxygen is due to the usefulness of the acetylene torch for steel welding and steel cutting, and for the welding of other metals, to lesser degree to the oxy-hydrogen flame. Oxygen gas in the breathing apparatus for a visitor at high altitudes and for oxy-gentents in hospitals is a high altitude and for oxy-gentents in hospitals is a more recent development. An extension of the use of oxygen lies in the increased intensity and speed of reactions brought about by oxygen enriched air instead of ordinary air; the reduction of the cycle time so achieved in chemical or metallurgical process permits a greater yield per volume of equipment, and brings about lower costs. Oxygen as a raw material for synthesizing chemical compounds is in daily use (ethylene oxide, sodium peroxide). Liquid oxygen mixed with carbon black may yet become an important and cheap explosive. On the commercial scale, oxygen is made from atmospheric air small production by the electrolysis of water is the result of special circumstances. An air separation plant separates atmospheric air into its primary components, typically nitrogen and oxygen, and sometimes also argon and other rare inert gases. Oxygen has formulae O2, the density of gas at O°C and one atmosphere is 1.429 gms/ litre. Its critical temp nature is -118°C and critical pressure 49.7 atmospheres. It is colorless odorless and tasteless gas somewhat heavier than air. It is one of the most active elements and plays an essential part in the respiration of living cells and in combustion. It is by far the most abundant element. It forms 21% by volume of the atmosphere and eight ninths by weight of water. It occurs as silicates in the earth's crust. Oxygen occurs usually in the form of diatomic molecules but tri-atomic ozone is also found. Uses & Applications Oxygen is used in industry for fusion, welding of metals, metal cutting and other purposes; oxy acetylene (oxygen acetylene) flame is used for welding steel. As a cutting medium, oxygen is used for scrap cutting and shaping, of steel plates, slabs up to several feet thick can be out into desired sized and shapes, under water cutting of plates can be effected by using an oxy-hydrogen flame shrouded by compressed air. Cleaning of steel structure by oxyacetylene flame removes rust and scale. A clean surface ready is obtained. Oxygen is used also for flame plating; a mixture of oxygen, acetylene and the coating powder (i.e. tungsten dioxide) is exposed in a gun, the force of explosion causing the powder to adhere to the metal surface. In the blast furnace oxygen enrichment of blast gives higher temperatures in the reaction zone resulting in increased iron production. In open hearth furnace operation hot metal is desilicon used by treatment with oxygen before transfer to the furnace this reduces refining time and increases steel output. The introduction of 30 cut of oxygen per ton of metal reduces the silicon content from 1% to 4% treatment of hot metal with oxygen decreased also the phosphorous content. Market Survey Gases are liquefied by significantly lowering their temperature: from -183°C for oxygen to -269°C for helium. It saves a substantial amount of volume. Gases are generally liquefied during the production phase and directly stored onsite into large cryogenic tanks. They are then dispatched to the customers’ site inside perfectly insulated cryogenic transport tanks. Oxygen purity is vital to efficient production. For example, 99.5 percent pure oxygen can produce high-quality, flame-cut edges. Cylinder oxygen is produced from vaporized liquid oxygen. Its minimum guaranteed purity is 99.5 percent. Liquid oxygen is classified as Type II by the Compressed Gas Association (CGA). The industrial gas industry is divided into two major segments. The first, called the tonnage or supply scheme market, is composed of large-volume users who usually receive gas via a direct pipeline from an on-site production facility. Under typical on-site contracts, a gas supplier constructs a production plant at or adjacent to a gas user's facility. The gas supplier owns and operates the plant for the benefit of the gas customer. Within this market segment, gas sold is measured in terms of tons per day. Examples of customers who routinely purchase industrial gases on the tonnage market include chemical, petroleum, electronics, and steel manufacturers. The other major market segment is known as the merchant or bulk liquid market. Customers within this market generally have fluctuating demand rates or operate multiple facilities in scattered locations. They often purchase gas products under short-term contracts of less than five years in duration. Gases are shipped and stored in liquid form because of volume constraints. For example, liquid oxygen takes up less than 1 percent of the space required to contain the same amount in a gaseous state. Examples of customers in this category include the metal, food processing, electronics, chemical, aerospace, plastics, medical, glass, and paper industries. The global market size of cryogenic equipment is estimated to be $11 billion in 2011. Cryogenic tank has the largest market and majority of cryogenic equipment market revenue come from those tanks. Medical Oxygen Gas Plant. Oxygen Bottling Plant

Medical Oxygen Gas Plant. Oxygen Bottling Plant. Oxygen Cylinder Filling Plant. Industrial Oxygen Gas Filling Plant. Manufacture of Industrial Gases. Oxygen is an element that can be a solid, liquid or gas depending on its temperature and pressure. In the atmosphere it is found as a gas, more specifically, a diatomic gas. This means that two oxygen atoms are connected together in a covalent double bond. Both oxygen atoms and oxygen gas are reactive substances that are essential for life on Earth. Oxygen is a gas. It is a colorless, tasteless, odourless gaseous element that constitutes 21% of the atmosphere and is found in water, in most rocks and minerals, and in numerous organic compounds, that is capable of combining with all elements except the inert gases, that is active in physiological processes, and that is involved especially in combustion processes. Oxygen gas, also called dioxygen because it is a bond of two oxygen atoms, is the second-most abundant element in the Earth's atmosphere, accounting for 21 percent of the air we breathe, well behind nitrogen's 78 percent. Pure oxygen gas has a specific gravity of 1.105. Usage in the Industry The greatest commercial use of oxygen gas is in the steel industry. Large quantities are also used in the manufacture of a wide range of chemicals including nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide. It is also used to make epoxyethane (ethylene oxide), used as antifreeze and to make polyester, and chloroethene, the precursor to PVC. Oxygen gas is used for oxy-acetylene welding and cutting of metals. A growing use is in the treatment of sewage and of effluent from industry. This gas is used in various industrial chemical applications. It is used to make acids, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and other compounds. Its most reactive variant is ozone O3. It is applied in assorted chemical reactions. The goal is to boost reaction rate and oxidation of unwanted compounds. Hot oxygen air is required to make steel and iron in blast furnaces. Some mining companies use it to destroy rocks. Oxygen is used to cut metals. Oxygen not only helps in burning but is a very reactive gas. These two properties make it an effective tool for cutting metals at high temperatures through the process of oxidation. Use in Medicine and Health In healthcare institutions like hospitals, oxygen supplies are kept in stock. These are provided to patients who have difficulty breathing. This breathing apparatus is also used by astronauts walking in space, scuba divers and mountaineers. Oxygen gas is used to destroy bacteria. The same oxygen gas is used to treat victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. Oxygen is efficient at killing bacteria and is, therefore, commonly used for cleansing the body from harmful bacteria. In general, deep breathing increases the amount of oxygen in the body. In certain situations, one can use liquid oxygen as well for therapeutic purposes. In many places where there is a danger of oxygen deficiency in the air, emergency oxygen supplies are provided in the form of oxygen tanks. For example, in airplanes, emergency oxygen is always available, because at higher altitudes, the oxygen level falls to very low values. Similarly, in submarines, the availability of emergency oxygen kits is a must. The Indian industrial gases market is dominated by oxygen. Oxygen accounts for nearly 75% of total production of gases outside carbon dioxide in the merchant market. If the captive segment is included, oxygen enjoys an over 70% share in all gases (outside carbon dioxide). The medical gases market size in India, in volume terms, is forecast to witness a two folds increase by 2019, exhibiting a CAGR of about 15% during 2014-19. The medical gases market in India is highly dominated by region-specific players, which are offering a stiff competition to multinational companies. India’s specialization in cardiology, orthopedic surgery, etc., is expected to drive healthcare demand, particularly for medical oxygen and nitrous oxide, which are vital requirements of any healthcare setup. Currently, the northern region, followed by the southern region, is the leading demand generators for medical gases, particularly medical oxygen gas. Industrial gases worldwide grew at around 14 per cent in the decade up to 2014 of which Asia-Pacific was the fastest growing market, mainly due to shift of manufacturing base of the world to this area. India is the 10th largest economy in the world in nominal terms but it is the third largest economy in terms of PPP. Oxygen is required in steel melting, fabrication, copper smelting, medical applications, etc. The use of oxygen improves the thermal efficiency of fuel. As a result, oxygen is used as a method of better energy production from available fuel. Oxygenation in different furnaces including those for steel, copper, cement production, etc. will improve efficiency in energy generation. Similarly, oxygen can be used for hazardous waste clean-up, pollution treatment of water and in coal gasification systems. It can also be used as a replacement of chlorine in paper and pulp industry to reduce pollution. Industrial gas is an important sector to contribute to a country’s progress. It appears to grow at double the rate of GDP. Profitable Investment Opportunity in LPG Filling Plant

Profitable Investment Opportunity in LPG Filling Plant, LPG Gas Cylinder Filling Plant Liquefied petroleum gas, or LP gas is one of the most common alternative fuels used in the world today. In fact, in many places, it isn’t an alternative fuel at all. LP gas is the mainstay for heating and cooking in certain areas of India and some rural areas of the United States. LPG is a mixture of commercial butane and commercial propane having saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons. LPG is gaseous at normal atmospheric pressure, but may be condensed to the liquid state at normal temperature, by the application of moderate pressures. Liquefied petroleum gas {LPG} is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases used as a fuel in heating appliances and vehicle. LPG is synthesized by refining petroleum or “wet” natural gas, and is almost derived entirely from fossil fuel. LPG Cylinder is an essential item for filling liquefied petroleum gas used for cooling purpose. The body of LPG cylinder is deep drawn in two pieces then these are welded together to make a compact unit without any leak and defect etc. LPG cylinders are in use in 5 Kg., 12 Kg., 14.2 Kg. & 19 Kg. capacities. LPG is primarily used as a thermal fuel and is consumed by industrial, commercial and household consumers. It burns cleanly, releasing very few sulphur emissions, and posing no ground or water pollution hazards. There are over a thousand applications of LPG particularly in commercial and industrial businesses. In particular, LPG is used in the following industries: 1. Industrial customers: for heating purposes where a readily controlled temperature is needed, i.e. motor vehicle paint shops or as fuel for fork lift trucks within warehouses etc. 2. Commercial: This includes, for example, a shopping centre with a number of restaurants which may have one bulk tank with LPG reticulated to individual restaurants/stores. 3. Autogas: LPG can also be used to power motor vehicles. Vehicles that use autogas are fitted with two fuel tanks, one for autogas and another for petrol/diesel. The vehicle can therefore switch between autogas and petrol/diesel at any time. 4. Households: LPG is mainly used by households for heating and cooking. Recently, residential estates have also started installing LPG reticulation systems supplying gas into the different properties inside these estates. LPG bottling plant is a plant where LPG is filled into bottles (cylinders) for storage and distribution among various LPG distributors. The plant has the facility to receive bulk LPG by Tank trucks (of various capacities e.g. 12MT, 17MT etc) or pipeline from a reliable source e.g. Refinery or any other LPG Bottling Plant. After receipt of Bulk LPG, filling of LPG into cylinders is done. A key factor influencing the type and size of filling plant will be where the demand for LPG is in the country. In emerging markets this may be difficult to assess and that might influence the choice to look at temporary facilities such as containerized filling. These can be used to sustain a growing market until such time that a more permanent facility can be justified. Global Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) market is projected to witness enormous growth due to wide adoption of LPG as a cooking gas from residential sector replacing other cooking fuels. Further, favorable government initiatives especially in key consuming economies of Asia Pacific such as China, India and Indonesia to promote LPG as the cooking fuel with the focus to substitute conventional cooking fuels such as coal, kerosene and wood is anticipated to drive the demand for Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) during the forecast period. Further, low greenhouse gases emission characteristics of LPG influencing governments to promote the adoption of LPG as auto fuel. This in turn is projected to drive the demand for LPG over the forecast period. However, volatile crude oil and natural gas price is expected to remain the key challenge for the global liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) market during the forecast period (2016-2024). In terms of end-use, the segments into which the global LPG market is divided are petrochemical and refinery, transportation, residential and commercial, industrial, and others. Of them, the segment of residential and commercial led in 2013 with a share of over 60% in the market.LPG is majorly used as a cooking fuel and also for lighting and eating in the residential and commercial segment. LPG consumption in India is forecast to surpass 35 MMT by FY26. North region dominated India LPG market over the past few years, and is further forecast to continue dominating the market through FY26. North region comprises several LPG bottling plants, oil refineries and petrochemical plants. Moreover, residential segment accounted for a lion’s share in India LPG market in FY16, and the segment is anticipated to continue dominate the market through FY26. This is anticipated to boost adoption of LPG in various end user segments across the country.
