Sericulture (Tasar Silk): Project Opportunities in Jharkhand

PROFILE:

Sericulture is an agro-based industry. It involves rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk, which is the yarn obtained out of cocoons spun by certain species of insects. The major activities of sericulture comprises of food-plant cultivation to feed the silkworms which spin silk cocoons and reeling the cocoons for unwinding the silk filament for value added benefits such as processing and weaving. Silk is a fine strand of fiber that is a solidified secretion produced by certain caterpillars to encase themselves in the form of cocoons. India is second largest producer of silk. Sericulture industry is looking out for the developments of young age silk worm rearing or chawki rearing. Care of silk worms start from the stage of procurement of silk worm eggs from the grainage itself. Silk worm eggs are distributed to the farmers for commercial rearing when active development of embryo is in progress. The important aspect of young silkworm rearing management are a suitable separate rearing house or room, well maintained mulberry garden with assured irrigation facilities. Sericulture has emerged as a virtual lifeline and a profitable employment avenue for villagers in Maoist-affected areas in India's eastern Jharkhand. Under the aegis of the Jharkhand state industrial department, farmers are beginning to rear silkworms.

RESOURCES:

Jharkhand, much like Chattisgarh and Uttaranchal, is endowed with adequate forest cover. These forests are home to two species of trees -Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna) & Asan (Terminalia Tomentosa) which are breeding ground for the moth which produces the cocoon from which Tasar yarn is reeled. Jharkhand's forest department is also planning to encourage planting of Arjuna trees in place of the traditional Acacia or Eucalyptus trees. Tussar Food plants are available over an area of 9 lakh hectares. The Singhbhum and Santhalpargana regions are the main silk producing centres in the State. The State is promoting this activity through 28 pilot project centres situated in different areas. Each rearer can rear on an average 200 eggs or Disease Free Laying (DFLs) so the annual demand of commercial seed or egg is of 130 lakh. There are three types of seeds or eggs – Nucleus, Basic seed and Basic seed multiplied to commercial seed.

GOVERNMENT RESOURCES:

Tasar culture is a backbone for Tribal development, and the Government of India, through the Central Silk Board and different State Governments have initiated several developmental and welfare measures for the tribal welfare through it. Jharkhand's forest department is also planning to encourage planting of Arjuna trees in place of the traditional Acacia or Eucalyptus trees. Jharkhand Sericulture Development Institute (JSDI) and Jharkhand Silk Technical Development Institute (JSTDI) are being strengthened to give an impetus to this sector. During the year 2010-11, it is proposed to rear 2.35 lakh tasar nucleus DFLs, 16 lakh of tasar basic DFLs and 96 lakh of commercial DFLs through seed and commercial rearers in the State. It is proposed to be benefited 40,000 -50,000 Tasar farmers through Tasar seed production and its rearing during the year.

Steel Industry

PROFILE:

Steel Industry is a booming industry in the whole world. India’s economic growth is contingent upon the growth of the Indian steel industry. Consumption of steel is taken to be an indicator of economic development. While steel continues to have a stronghold in traditional sectors such as construction, housing and ground transportation, special steels are increasingly used in engineering industries such as power generation, petrochemicals and fertilisers. Indian Steel Industry is more than a century old. India has now emerged as the eighth largest producer of steel in the world with a production capacity of 35MT. Almost all varieties of steel is now produced in India. India has also emerged as a net exporter of steel which shows that Indian steel is being increasingly accepted in the global market. The growth of the steel industry in India is also dependant, to a large extent, on the level of consumption of steel in the domestic market. Steel consumption is significant in housing and infrastructure. In recent years the surge in housing industry of India has led to increase in the domestic demand for steel.

RESOURCES:

Jharkhand emerges as hub for steel companies. The state is endowed with deposits of Iron Ores of both, Hematite & Magnetite. The Hematite deposits are mainly located in the West Singhbhum District and have a resource base exceeding 3700 Million Tonnes. These have been explored only in pockets by large industry houses in their lease hold. There is a very good scope of enlarging this resource base by further exploration. The Magnetite Deposits are located in the East Singhbhum, Latehar & Palamu districts. They comprise lenticular ore bodies as well as Schist rocks with 80 to 36% magnetic. The exploration of these bodies is yet to be taken up. The existing steel mills are sourcing their iron ore (Hematite) from West Singhbhum. The Magnetite ore is being used in heavy media coal washeries & paints. Tata Steel's largest plant is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, with its recent acquisitions; the company has become a multinational with operations in various countries. If the interest shown by all the companies, big and small, in Jharkhand's iron ore deposits translates into reality, the state will produce more than half the total steel in India. First Iron & steel factory  is located at Jamshedpur and Largest Steel plant in Asia is Bokaro steel plant.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Under the new industrial policy, iron and steel has been made one of the high priority industries. Price and distribution controls have been removed  as well as foreign direct investment up to 100% (under automatic route) has been permitted.  The Trade Policy has also been liberalized and import and export of iron and steel is freely allowed with no quantitative restrictions on import of iron and steel items. Tariffs on various items of iron and steel have drastically come down since 1991-92 levels and the government is committed to bring them down to the international levels.  With the abolishing of price regulation of iron and steel in 92, the steel prices are market determined. The policy devises a multi-pronged strategy to achieve these targets with following focus areas; removal of supply constraints especially availability  of critical inputs like iron ore; improve cost competitiveness by expanding and strengthening the infrastructure in roads, railways, ports and power; increase exports; meet the additional capital requirements by mobilizing financial resources; promote investments by removing  procedural delays. In addition the policy also addresses challenges arising out of environmental concerns, human resource requirements, R&D, volatile steel prices and the secondary sector.

Production of Hot Melt Adhesives (HMA) For Book Binding, Packaging and Courier Bag.

Production of Hot Melt Adhesives (HMA) For Book Binding, Packaging and Courier Bag. Opportunities for Entrepreneurs to Start Own Industry in Adhesives Sector. Hot melt adhesives are generally 100% solids formulations supported thermoplastic polymers. They solid at temperature and are activated upon heating above their softening point, at which stage they're liquid, and hence are often processed. After application, they retain the power to wet the substrate until they solidify. Upon solidification, they return to a physical state that has structural integrity and may function as an adhesive. The adhesive is applied by extruding, rolling, or spraying and joining is administered immediately after application or after reheating the solidified layer. The variability of polymers during this class is very wide and includes both natural and synthetic polymers. The high viscosity of the melt makes them particularly suitable for porous and permeable substrates which otherwise would be more difficult to bond with a solvent system. A feature of hot melts is that on cooling they very rapidly build up their internal strength allowing rapid assembly and further processing. Because they're based on thermoplastic polymers, hot melts are often repeatedly heated to melt and cooled to solidify. This property limits the temperature resistance of hot melt bonds and that they even have a tendency to creep when subjected to continuous stress or elevated temperatures. On the plus side, these adhesives are often wont to create bonded joints that are thermally detachable and may even be re-attached. Related Projects: - Adhesives and Sealants, Industrial Adhesives, Glues, Gums and Binders, Synthetic Resin, Resins Hot melts are used in many different industries for a wide variety of applications. They are capable of bonding many different substrates including rubbers, plastics, metals, ceramics, glass and wood. The packaging industry is one of the major users. Hot melts are used for carton sealing and assembly of corrugated boxes and paperboard cartons, and for labeling applications. Other uses include shoe-making (bonding toecaps and shoe soles), disposable diapers and sanitary napkins bonding, bookbinding, manufacture of non-woven materials, and various laminating applications in the furniture industry (veneer surrounds and edging). The automotive industry employs hot melts to assemble various products including bonding of carpeting and seat covers. The electronics industry makes also use of hot melts, for example to bond coil windings and coil ends. Hot Melt Adhesives Provide the Following Benefits: A 100 % solids content, free of solvents and water High production speeds due to short setting times A wide range of adhesion to different materials They can level out of irregularities in the surface Smooth surfaces due to a water-free bonding Elastic bondlines Can be reactivated by heat and therefore be used for precoating Joint can be opened by heating (recycling) Related Books: - Gums, Adhesives & Sealants Technology (With Formulae) Market Outlook The global hot melt adhesives market size was valued at USD 6.7 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2% from 2020 to 2027. Increasing demand from the packaging and non-woven products application is a significant factor in driving the market growth. Unlike their solvent- or water-based counterparts, hot melt adhesives (HMAs) do not require drying or curing. They can be applied in their molten state and, therefore, can be bonded immediately after the application; this gives them the distinct advantage of faster processing times in various applications including packaging, nonwovens (diapers, and female hygiene products), furniture, industrial assembly, and others. Rising disposable income levels and increasing awareness regarding personal hygiene are likely to boost the demand for nonwoven products like diapers and feminine hygiene products, which, in turn, is expected to drive the segment growth. In woodworking, HMAs are used as general-purpose adhesives for bonding wooden substrates in furniture. An increasing number of refurbishment & restoration projects within the developed economies including new construction activities in emerging economies are likely to propel product demand in woodworking applications. In assembly application, the product is used during a variety of industries including medical, electrical & electronics, and other industrial manufacturing. The fast setting speed and wide temperature range of HMAs are the crucial factors that drive the segment growth. Related Videos: - Adhesives and Sealants, Industrial Adhesives, Glues, Gums and Binders, Synthetic Resin, Resins (Guar Gum, Adhesive [Fevicol Type], Hot Melt Adhesives) Increasing demand from the automotive and packaging industries in Asia-Pacific and the rising environmental concerns regarding solvent-borne adhesives. The ethylene-vinyl acetate segment dominated the market and is expected to witness a healthy growth rate during the forecast period, owing to the increasing demand from the paper, board, and packaging industry, across the globe. The adoption of bio-based hot-melt adhesives is likely to act as an opportunity in the future. Another driver identified in the hot melt adhesives market is the rapid industrialization and expansion of the packaging industry. The emerging economies of Asia Pacific are witnessing substantial increase in the use of hot melt adhesives, especially in the automotive and packaging industries. Increasing purchasing power of individuals and changing consumption trends have led to the development of more varied, complex, and eco-friendly products, thereby calling for higher consumption of these adhesives. Market Research: - Market Research Reports, India and Global Industry Analysis The construction industry has relied on solvents for adhesives needs for decades. Hot melt has begun to replace solvent-based products. Construction is one area that industry watchers predict hot melt use will rapidly grow, outpacing the expected growth in other industries. Booklet labels, labels that require you to peel away the top layer to reveal the text related to the contents of a box, package or item, will need adhesives. Hot melt meets these needs without any environmental worries or problems with application. Many advertisers have been marketing through labeling. This trend will likely continue, increasing revenue for hot melt products in this market. Hot melt adhesives are industrial strength adhesives that are thermally melted and then allowed to cool in order to achieve their adhesive properties. They are made primarily of one or more polymers and a combination of additives such as resins and pigments that provide different characteristics to various adhesives. Hot melt adhesives are named for their polymer bases, providing different types of hot melt adhesives like ethylene vinyl acetate, polyamide, and polyurethanes for numerous industries and applications, including packaging, product assembly, woodworking, bookbinding, and product labeling. Related Books: - Adhesives, Chemical, Drugs, Gums, Insecticides, Jute, Pesticides, Petro Chemicals Increasing Development of Bio-Based Hot Melt Adhesives to Offer Immense Growth Opportunities in the Market Due to the rising environmental concerns, companies are developing bio-based adhesives to replace the chemical-based ones. List of Processed Food Business Ideas for Startup. 33 Profitable Food Manufacturing Business Plans.

List of Processed Food Business Ideas for Startup. 33 Profitable Food Manufacturing Business Plans. Food is any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink or that plants absorb in order to maintain life and growth. Most food sources are plants. Some food is directly obtained from plants. Food processing is the transformation raw ingredients, by physical or chemical changes into food. It combines raw ingredients to produce marketable food products that can be easily prepared and served by the consumer. People were using two methods to secured food through: hunting and gathering, and agriculture. Today, food industry is supplied most of the food energy required for the increasing population in the world. Food processing dates back to the prehistoric ages when crude processing incorporated fermenting, sun drying, preserving with salt, and various types of cooking, such basic food processing involved the chemical enzymatic changes to the basic structure of food in its natural form, as well served to build a barrier against surface microbial activity that caused rapid decay. Related Projects: - Food Processing and Agriculture Based Projects Benefits of food processing include preservation, toxin removal, easing marketing and distribution tasks, and increased food consistency. In addition, it increases yearly availability of many foods, enables transportation of delicate perishable foods across long distances and makes many kinds of foods safe to eat by de-activating spoilage and pathogenic micro-organisms. Modern supermarkets would not exist without modern food processing techniques, and long voyages would not be possible. Any processing of food can affect its nutritional density. The loss of nutrients depends on the food and processing method. For example the heat destroys the vitamin C. Therefore, canned fruits possess less vitamin C than their fresh alternatives. On average this process reduces any given nutrient by as little as 5%-20%. New research highlighting the importance to human health of a rich microbial environment in the intestine indicates that abundant food processing endangers that environment. Related Books: - Food Processing, Food Industry, Agriculture, Agro Processing, Processed Food Food processing means the ways that are used to change raw ingredients into food so that they can be eaten by humans or animals. Surgical Latex and Nitrile Gloves

A surgical (surgeon’s) glove is made of natural or synthetic rubber intended to be worn by operating room personnel to protect a surgical wound from contamination. Surgical gloves have more precise sizing (numbered sizing, generally from size 5.5 to size 9), and are made to higher specifications. They are hand specific. Due to the increasing rate of latex allergy among health professionals as well as in the general population, there has been an increasing move to gloves made of non-latex materials such as vinyl or nitrile rubber. However, these gloves have not yet replaced latex gloves in surgical procedures, as gloves made of alternate materials generally do not fully match the fine control or greater sensitivity to touch available with latex surgical gloves. Nitrile gloves are a type of disposable gloves made from synthetic rubber, this means there is no risk of latex allergies. They are the most popular gloves type in our range and offer superior strength, dexterity and resistance to oils and aqueous chemicals in comparison to vinyl or latex. For these reasons, they are often used in the medical, laboratory and manufacturing industries. India disposable gloves market generated $303 million in 2017, and is projected to reach $760 million by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 12.4% from 2018 to 2025. In terms of volume, the market is growing at a CAGR of 8.3% from 2018 to 2025. The Indian market for medical gloves is still evolving. While the global market is growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of two per cent, the Indian market is at seven per cent growth. Every day there is a new hospital or nursing home popping up in India, so the demand for medical gloves is expected to increase. Medical tourism is also driving the growth of this product category in our country. The market size therefore only for surgical gloves in India is Rs 300 crore. In view of all this, there is a good scope to initiate small-scale rubber gloves manufacturing unit. The demand for rubber gloves is rapidly increasing on account of rapid industrialization and urbanization of our country currently taking place. Several workers in the chemical, electrical and food processing industries use rubber gloves. Similarly, the number of people using gloves for household purposes during handling of detergents, floor polishes, pesticides and the like is also increasing especially in the urban areas. Thus, due to demand it is best to invest in this project. Few Indian major players are as under Wellness Forever Medicare Pvt. Ltd. T T K Biomed Ltd. Sara Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. Narang Medical Ltd. Waste oil is generated from industrial and non-industrial sources and primarily contains hydrocarbons. It may also contain additives and impurities due to physical contamination and chemical reactions occurring during its use. Used oil has been used previously, and as a result of that, is now contaminated by impurities, either chemical or physical. Examples of used oil are old transmission oil, motor oil, brake fluid, hydraulic oil and gearbox oil. Used oil is a recyclable commodity, and as such, can be stored for recycling, reuse or disposal. Used oil is not considered to be a waste product. Re-refining of usedlube oil is an economically attractive recycling methodin terms of resources conservation and environment protection. It allows processing of hazardous material in a safe and effective way to recover a high quality base oil product. The global lubricants market size is projected to reach USD 182.6 billion by 2025 from USD 157.6 billion in 2020, at a CAGR of 3.0%. Growth in Industrialization in Asia Pacific and the Middle East & Africa post COVID-19, coupled with the rise in process automation in most of the industries and the gradual increase in number of vehicles on-road are key factors expected to drive the global lubricants industry during the forecast period. The enhanced properties of gear oils are required to improve the efficiency of the wind turbine; hence there is an increasing demand for synthetic gear oils in wind turbines. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride

CPVC is a high-temperature plastic pressure piping system introduced for potable plumbing in 1959. It has also been used extensively in fire sprinkler systems since 1985. This material is also used for many industrial and process piping applications. CPVC pipe is available in nominal sizes from 1/2" to 24" and is approved in all model plumbing and mechanical codes across the United States and Canada. In addition, CPVC pipe and fittings from select manufacturers are listed for light hazard fire sprinkler systems, as defined in NFPA 13, 13R and 13D standards. The demand for PVC in India witnessed an impressive CAGR in the historic years and is projected to achieve a healthy CAGR of over 6.81% during 2015-2030. The total capacity of PVC in India is around 1640 KTA with Reliance Industries holding maximum share in its production in comparison to the other four leading players. The domestic production of PVC is unable to consolidate the massive demand for the product hence; around 50 per cent of the demand in India is being met through imports. However, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride products turns brittle after some time due to continuous exposure to hydrocarbon chemicals or losing the molecular bond in CPVC materials. It may create hassles for the product manufacturer. Additionally, there is problem of high maintenance of material in leak damage situations, which tends to affect product demand. This could play a setback for product demand over the forecast timeframe. Thus, due to demand it is best to invest in this project. Few Indian major players are as under Chemplast Sanmar Ltd.
