What is a wood plastic composite project report?
A wood plastic composite project report is a detailed project report (DPR) for a unit that blends wood flour with PVC or other plastics. The unit extrudes the blend into WPC boards, doors or profiles. The report sets out the process, machinery, raw materials, market, project cost, means of finance, five-year projections, DSCR and break-even a lender needs.
Entrepreneurs and plywood or PVC board makers use it to size the line and apply for a term loan; banks use it to judge whether the unit can repay.
Also known as: WPC board project report, project report on wood plastic composite, wood plastic composite business plan, WPC board manufacturing DPR.
What a bank checks in a wood plastic composite project report
A WPC board unit is a plastics plant with a wood-panel customer base. Lenders look first at resin cost, repayment cover in the early years and dealer credit. These are the values in our sample report and why each matters.
Resin and additives take more than half of every rupee of sales. A report showing a much lower share is usually pricing PVC below the market.
PVC resin is the largest input by far. Banks expect the report to test a resin price rise and show what it does to profit and DSCR.
DSCR (debt service coverage ratio) is cash available for loan payments divided by those payments. It dips in Year 2, the first full year of principal repayment.
Plywood and laminate dealers expect credit. Receivables are the largest current asset in the sample, so debtor days drive the cash credit limit.
Values are the assumptions in our illustrative sample. Your report uses figures for your line, suppliers and market.
Wood plastic composite manufacturing plant cost in India
Cost depends mainly on extruder size and how many lines you run. A single board line can make several thicknesses by changing calibration settings, so most first units start with one line. The large tier is the plant in our sample report; the other two are indicative.

PVC-based or PE and PP-based WPC: which plant are you building?
"WPC" covers two different factories. In India most new units make PVC-based foam board for interiors; outdoor decking and fencing use polyethylene or polypropylene with more wood. Decide this first, because the extruder, die, raw materials and buyers all change.
| Point | PVC-based WPC foam board | PE or PP-based WPC |
|---|---|---|
| Main products | Boards for cabinets, doors, door frames, cladding | Decking, fencing, railings, garden furniture |
| Process | Foam extrusion with a calibrated hard skin (celuka type) | Solid or hollow profile extrusion |
| Extruder | Conical twin-screw with hot and cold mixer | Twin-screw, often with wood drying or compounding first |
| Density | About 450–750 kg per cubic metre | About 900–1,050 kg per cubic metre |
| Main buyers | Plywood dealers, kitchen makers, interior contractors | Landscape, resort and real estate projects |

Wood plastic composite manufacturing process
A PVC-based WPC board line runs continuously once it is stable, and most of the skill sits in the dry blend and the calibration table. Seven stages take sawdust and resin to a finished 8 by 4 feet board.
- Wood flour preparation
Sawdust or wood waste is ground to fine mesh and dried, because moisture turns to steam in the die and leaves blisters.
- Hot and cold mixing
Resin, wood flour, filler, stabiliser, foaming agents and lubricants are heated by friction in a high-speed mixer, then cooled to a free-flowing dry blend.
- Foam extrusion
A conical twin-screw extruder melts the blend and pushes it through a wide coat-hanger T-die while the foaming agent expands the core.
- Calibration and cooling
Water-cooled calibration plates fix the thickness and chill the surface into a hard skin over the foamed core.
- Haul-off and cutting
Rollers pull the board at a steady speed; edges are trimmed and a saw cuts it to length.
- Sanding and finishing
Boards are sanded to an even surface, and some are laminated or printed with a wood-grain film.
- Inspection and packing
Thickness, density and flatness are checked per batch; trims and rejects go to the scrap grinder for reuse.
Raw materials for WPC board manufacturing
By weight, wood flour and calcium carbonate are a large part of the board, but they are cheap. Cost is set by PVC resin and the small-dose additives: the foam regulator and stabiliser together are 21% of raw material cost in our sample.
| Raw material | Share of cost | Year 3 (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| PVC resin (suspension grade) | 60% | 695.91 |
| Foam regulator and acrylic processing aid | 12% | 139.18 |
| Calcium zinc stabiliser | 9% | 104.39 |
| Calcium carbonate filler | 7% | 81.19 |
| Wood flour | 6% | 69.59 |
| Foaming agents and lubricants | 6% | 69.59 |
| Total | 100% | 1,159.85 |
Year 3 at 70% capacity. Packing film and cartons are costed separately in the sample.
Machinery for a WPC board plant
The extruder is the most expensive machine and decides output per hour. The T-die and calibration moulds come next, and a wider die or extra thickness range adds to both.
| Machine | What it does | Sample cost (₹ lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Conical twin-screw extruder | Melts and foams the dry blend | 116.64 |
| Coat-hanger T-die and calibration moulds | Spreads the melt to board width and sets thickness | 51.03 |
| High-speed hot and cold mixer | Makes a uniform dry blend | 36.45 |
| Calibration and cooling table | Cools the board and forms the hard skin | 36.45 |
| Haul-off with edge trimming and cutting saw | Pulls, trims and cuts boards to size | 32.81 |
| Wood flour pulveriser and dryer | Grinds and dries sawdust | 25.52 |
| Sanding and lamination machine | Finishes and laminates the surface | 25.52 |
| Scrap crusher and pulveriser | Turns trims and rejects into regrind | 21.87 |
| Chiller, cooling tower and air compressor | Cooling water and compressed air | 18.22 |
| Total plant and machinery | 364.51 | |

Market for WPC boards in India
Demand comes from modular kitchens, bathroom vanities, doors and wall cladding, where buyers want a board that does not swell with water or attract termites. Thin boards of 6–9 mm go into cladding and false ceilings; 15–18 mm boards go into shutters and carcasses.
- Plywood, laminate and hardware dealers
- Modular kitchen and furniture makers
- Interior designers and fit-out contractors
- Door and door frame fabricators
- Builders and housing projects
- Sign and display makers
Density sells the board: kitchen makers ask for high-density board, above about 650 kg per cubic metre, because it holds screws and stays flat. A unit that keeps density even across the sheet wins repeat dealer orders.
Mistakes that weaken a WPC board project report
- Pricing every board at 18 mm high-density rates
Dealers sell by square foot, but the plant buys resin by the kilo. Revenue must follow the real thickness and density mix, not the best-selling premium board.
- Leaving out additive cost
Foam regulator, stabiliser and foaming agents are small doses but a large share of cost. A report that costs only resin and filler overstates margin.
- No allowance for start-up scrap and regrind
Each thickness change and restart produces off-spec board. The report should show how much is reground and reused, and how much is lost.
- Ignoring wood flour moisture
Damp sawdust causes blisters and rejects. Budget for a dryer and dry storage, especially for monsoon months.
- Quoting a BIS number that does not cover WPC
Some marketing material cites IS 14735, which BIS lists for UPVC soil and waste fittings. Check the standard's title on BIS before you put it in a report.

Wood Plastic Composite project report: frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to set up a WPC board manufacturing plant in India?
A small unit with one 100–150 kg per hour line needs roughly ₹1.2–2.5 crore, and a 4–6 MT per day unit about ₹3–5.5 crore, including building and working capital margin. Our sample report models a 7.6 MT per day plant at ₹771.82 lakh. These are indicative figures; a project report works out the cost for your line size, location and product mix.
What raw materials are used to make WPC boards?
PVC-based WPC board is made from suspension-grade PVC resin, wood flour, calcium carbonate filler, a calcium zinc stabiliser, foaming agents, a foam regulator and lubricants. In our sample report PVC resin is 60% of raw material cost, and the foam regulator and processing aid add 12%. Resin and additive prices decide most of the margin.
Which machine is used for WPC board manufacturing?
The core machine is a conical twin-screw extruder fed by a high-speed hot and cold mixer. It pushes the melt through a wide T-die into water-cooled calibration plates, then a haul-off and saw cut the board to 8 by 4 feet. A wood flour pulveriser, scrap grinder, sanding machine and chiller complete the line.
Is WPC board manufacturing profitable?
In our illustrative sample, a 7.6 MT per day unit earns a 20% return on investment in Year 3. It breaks even at about 49% of capacity and pays back in about 3.8 years. Real results depend on PVC resin prices, how much regrind you can reuse, the thickness and density mix you sell and the credit dealers expect.
Can I get a PMEGP, Mudra or CGTMSE loan for a WPC unit?
PMEGP covers manufacturing projects up to ₹50 lakh, and Mudra goes up to ₹20 lakh under Tarun Plus for repeat borrowers. Both suit board lamination or cutting units more than an extrusion line. Most WPC board plants take an MSME term loan, and CGTMSE can cover collateral-free credit to micro and small units up to ₹10 crore. Confirm current terms with your bank.
Is WPC board better than plywood for kitchens?
WPC board does not swell when wet and resists termites, so it is widely used for kitchen base units, bathroom vanities and door frames. Plywood is stiffer and holds screws better in long spans. Many buyers use high-density WPC above 650 kg per cubic metre for wet areas and plywood elsewhere, which is why most units sell through plywood dealers.
Is the sample report free and can I use it for a loan?
The sample is free to view and download. It is an illustrative report that shows the format and depth of an NPCS report. Its figures are representative and not based on a real project, so it should not be submitted to a bank. For a loan, NPCS prepares a report for your own capacity, location and loan scheme.
