| Cane sugar industry is a major industry in India. The cane sugar or sucrose industry is based on the extraction of sucrose from sugarcane and sugar beet. India imports nearly 70% of its annual crude petroleum requirement, which is approximately 110 million tonnes. It is estimated that domestic consumption of sugar will rise to 24.5 million tonnes per year. Indias share in world sugar production is increasing per year.
