Engineered stone makers, tile and sanitaryware units, glass plants and foundries all buy processed quartz, and a quartz powder plant turns mined lumps into the grits and micronised powder they need. A quartz powder plant consultant helps you decide the grades, capacity and machinery before money is committed. NPCS has supported entrepreneurs since 1994 with project reports, feasibility studies and market research, and our team can shape your plan around your location and mine access.

Market Demand for Quartz Powder in India

Demand for processed quartz in India follows engineered quartz slab exports and the output of ceramics and glass. Buyers want consistent whiteness and particle size, so reliable suppliers get repeat orders. Export potential is medium, and the industry clusters around Beawar and Ajmer in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

  • Engineered-stone and ceramic makers
  • Glass plants and foundries
  • Paint and filler firms
  • Exporters

Quartz Powder Products You Can Make

Most new units start with plain grits and 200–500 mesh powder for ceramics and glass. High-white grits suit engineered stone makers, who pay attention to colour. Micronised silica needs an air classifier, so it usually follows once the core line is running steadily.

  • Quartz grits (various mesh)
  • High-white grits for engineered stone
  • Quartz powder (200–500 mesh)
  • Micronised silica
  • Ceramic and glass grades

Quartz Powder Plant Process

The quartz powder plant process moves from washing and crushing to iron removal, grinding and classification. Iron is the main quality risk, because Fe2O3 hurts whiteness. Magnetic separation handles most of it, and high-white grades add acid washing. Grinding in an alumina-lined ball mill avoids iron pickup from the mill itself.

Quality is checked at the end of each stage. Labs test SiO2 percentage, Fe2O3, whiteness, particle size distribution and moisture before bagging. Micronised grades pair the ball mill with an air classifier to hold the size range tight.

  2. Washing
  3. Primary and secondary crushing
  4. Iron removal (magnetic separation, acid washing for high-white grades)
  5. Grinding (alumina-lined ball mill)
  6. Air classification/screening
  7. Bagging

Raw Materials and Machinery for a Quartz Plant

Your main input is quartz lumps from mines, plus water for washing that is recycled in the plant. Supply typically comes from Rajasthan (Beawar, Ajmer, Bhilwara), Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Karnataka. Crushers, magnetic separators, the ball mill and dust collectors matter most, since they decide purity and compliance.

  • Jaw and roll/VSI crushers
  • Washing unit
  • Magnetic separators
  • Ball mill
  • Air classifier
  • Dust collectors
  • Bagging

Licences and Approvals for a Quartz Powder Plant

Quartz powder plant licence and approvals follow a clear order. Register the unit first, then obtain consent to establish from the State Pollution Control Board before construction. Grinding and processing units fall in the Orange category under CPCB Annexure-I. After commissioning you'll need consent to operate.

  • Factory licence and silica-dust controls under factory law
  • Mineral dealer or storage licence under state minor-mineral rules
  • Transit passes for moving quartz
  • No QCO applies

Securing Quartz Raw Material

Quartz comes from mines, and the monsoon disrupts that supply. Plan to stock lumps before the rains so the crushers keep running. Choose suppliers with low-iron quartz, since this saves cost on iron removal later.

Sourcing from the Rajasthan belt around Beawar and Ajmer, or from Gujarat or Telangana, keeps freight manageable if your plant sits nearby. Written supply terms and test certificates for each lot reduce price and quality surprises.

Choosing the Right Quartz Plant Size

Plants typically range from about 20–300 TPD, with an indicative investment of about ₹2–20 crore excluding land. A smaller unit suits grits and basic powder for local ceramic buyers. Larger lines justify micronising, acid washing and more dust control.

Land and power scale too, from about 1–5 acres and about 200 kW–2 MW. Quartz powder plant setup cost in India depends on these choices, so a project report should price your chosen capacity.

Government Schemes and Project Finance

State industrial incentives are the main scheme listed for quartz processing, and eligibility varies by state. A detailed quartz powder plant project report gives banks the costs, cash flows and payback they ask for. NPCS reports are used for bank loans and programmes such as PMEGP, MSME schemes, Mudra and NABARD-linked projects, subject to each lender's requirements.

What Decides Success in a Quartz Powder Plant

Good operators control iron, whiteness and dust from day one, and they get customer approvals early. Risks need planning too. Fines and tailings can be sold for filler uses, which softens waste costs.

  • Low-iron raw quartz and consistent whiteness
  • Silica-dust compliance
  • Mining supply disruption in monsoon
  • Trade actions abroad on engineered stone

Quartz Powder Plant: Frequently Asked Questions

How much investment is needed for a quartz powder plant?

An indicative range is about ₹2–20 crore, excluding land, for roughly 20–300 TPD. The final figure depends on capacity, grades and dust control. A project report prices your exact plan and location.

Which pollution category applies to a quartz powder plant?

Grinding, processing and screening of minor minerals falls in the Orange category under CPCB Annexure-I. Mineral processing with grinding and pulverisation is also Orange. You'll need consent to establish and consent to operate from the State Pollution Control Board.

How much land and power does a quartz powder plant need?

Plants typically need about 1–5 acres and a power load of about 200 kW–2 MW, depending on capacity. Water use is moderate, mainly for washing, and it is recycled within the plant.

How to start a quartz powder plant business?

Start by fixing your grades, capacity and quartz source. Then prepare a project report, register the unit and apply for consent to establish. Order machinery after approvals, and seek customer approvals on samples before full production.
