Biodegradable Disposable Cups & Plates Manufacturing Project for Sustainable Industrial Growth in India

A Bhopal-based industrial company steps into eco-friendly manufacturing with complete feasibility and strategic support from NPCS.

Client: M/s. Badri Cotsyn Limited

M/s. Badri Cotsyn Limited came to NPCS with a straightforward but important brief — find a manufacturing opportunity that was commercially strong, environmentally aligned, and built to last. Based in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the company had the investment appetite and the strategic intent. What they needed was the right direction, backed by solid research.

NPCS identified the Manufacturing of Biodegradable Disposable Cups and Plates as the strongest fit — and the case was compelling. India's ban on single-use plastics has fundamentally changed the disposable packaging landscape. Demand for biodegradable alternatives is growing fast across food delivery, hospitality, airlines, railways, corporate dining, hospitals, and institutional buyers. Madhya Pradesh's rich agricultural base — sugarcane bagasse, wheat straw, areca palm leaf — offers a reliable and cost-effective local raw material supply, which gave the project a strong regional advantage from the start.

The technical assessment covered the full production process: raw material procurement and pulping, hydraulic hot-press moulding, tunnel drying, trimming and finishing, food-grade coating, quality testing, and final packaging. Plant layout, machinery selection, and utility requirements were all assessed for practical implementation at scale.

On the financial side, NPCS evaluated land and civil infrastructure costs, plant and machinery investment, raw material procurement, working capital needs for the first year, and operational setup. Return on investment, IRR, and payback period were all assessed and confirmed the project's commercial viability above industry benchmarks.

The implementation roadmap gave M/s. Badri Cotsyn Limited a clear phase-wise path from licensing and site preparation through to commercial production and market entry.

After reviewing the complete DPR and feasibility findings, the client confirmed their decision to proceed with full project implementation.
