Silicones consist of an inorganic backbone made of alternate silicon and oxygen atoms. Chemists refer to them as polydiorganosiloxanes. Silicone emulsions can be divided into three groups depending on the type of emulsifier system used, they can be: anionic, cationic and non-ionic. Most emulsions are non-ionic as they are compatible with either of the other two systems but depending on the application, cationic or anionic emulsions can be chosen.

Silicon emulsions are insoluble silicones evenly dispersed in water with the aid of a surfactants. Out of concern for the environment, demand is growing for emulsion products that can be diluted with water without use of a solvent. These products used in many industrial applications requiring lubrication, gloss, water repellent and release properties. Silicon has developed a line of silicon emulsions designed to be eco-friendly, safe, and easy to use, in order to meet the needs of industry in the modern age.

This silicone emulsions allows emulsification of extremely high viscosity methyl end blocked dimethyl silicone. Silicone emulsions are used in a wide range of industrial and consumer products. Silicone Emulsions are manufactured for use in diverse industrial applications such as vial coating, rubber moulding, plastics moulding, foundry parting, antistatic agents, textiles softening, hydrophilic softener emulsions etc. A wide variety of surfactants has been used to emulsify and stabilize water/silicone emulsions.

In order to make silicone useful in aqueous systems, there are a variety of emulsions available. The use of an emulsion makes the silicone easier to handle. Silicone emulsions or emulsions containing both silicone oil and mineral oil are over sprayed on the printed goods during the drying process right after printing. These materials, called printer’s solution in the trade, allow for lubrication, anti-smudge and anti-static properties on printed goods.
