Intermediate Chemicals, Processing Aids, Antifoam Emulsions Projects

Foam control is required in dozens of industries. Many modern manufacturing techniques require the circulation of a liquid through a system. A common problem is encountered when operating a system like this is the inadvertent production of foam. These types of problems are averted by adding antifoam to the liquid, the surface tension can be reduced making a clear boundary between the liquid and trapped air. Contaminants collect on the surface of the liquid and make it easier to separate them from the liquid.

Antifoamsor defoamers are widely used within many different industries within water systems to reduce and eliminate the buildup of foam. Due to the nature of some water based paint and adhesives and the tendency of some paint booth systems to foam, due to gross aeration, Equilibrium have developed a range of hydrocarbon, non silicone based antifoamsused to reduce and eliminate foaming in re-circulating water systems. Thus antifoam emulsion based oils provides the outstanding compatibility that makes it ideal for a wide range of aqueous system applications in the chemical processing, water treatment, adhesives manufacturing, textiles and other industries.

Antifoams can be based on several different chemicals. A widely used type of antifoam is oil based. Any oil which is insoluble in the liquid being treated can be used. To enhance the performance of these solutions wax or silica can be added. Watercan also form the base of antifoam. By dispersing oils or complex fats in the water, the resulting liquid can be used as antifoam.

Silicone is an ideal antifoam. It is liquid within a wide range of viscosities, has a low surface energy, and is cleanSilicone based antifoams have silica and emulsifiers added to silicone oils. This type of antifoam is widely used on liquids other than water such as crude oil. Hydrocarbon based antifoams can be produced without silicone and provide the ideal solution for releasing air from solvents as well as water.

Using antifoams helps produce consistent, predictable results and extend the life of equipment. Today antifoams can be found in dishwasher detergents, food products, and numerous industrial applications and even in pharmaceuticalsto prevent bloating and indigestion.
