The steel industry in India has been moving from strength to strength. India has emerged as the fourth largest producer of steel in the world and the second largest producer of crude steel. Steel production reached 28.52 million tonne (MT). India’s steel industry has some advantages i.e. sufficient availability of raw materials, particularly quality iron-ore, a rich skill base and an expanding market.

Long products constitute almost half of the annual steel production, which stands at 53 million tonnes presently. Industry estimates show that the construction sector alone consumes close to 45 per cent of the total long products output. Stainless steel accounts for only 3 per cent of the country’s total steel production and about 70 per cent finds application in kitchenware and the rest in industries. The demand for flat steel products will be strong, with rising production of automobiles as automobile sales have risen an annual 15%. Steel along with iron has a weight of 3.64 per cent in the wholesale price index. The present index of basic metal and alloy recorded an 8.55% growth rate. Production of bars and rods recorded 19.67% growth rate and steel wires recorded 11.11% growth rate.India’s steel production is likely to surpass the domestic requirement by 2011-2012, easing pressure on price of the alloy. Other allied steel products are HR coils, CR coils, and HDG coil.etc. End users sector like auto, consumer durables, construction and electricity have all shown steady growth in recent years and Indian steel import figure further provides evidence of strong domestic demand.

Major players in the steel sectors are Steel Authority of India (SAIL), RINL, TataSteel, JSW Steel, Essar Steel and Bhushan Steel, Jindal Saw, JSL, Usha Martin, Uttam Galva, PSL, Ajmera Realty, etc.

India’s steel industry is the happening place in 2010 with global gins in the field showing keen interest in setting shop in India. India is poised to take a big leap in steel capacity creation. By 2015-16, it may become world’s second largest steel producer. The National Steel Policy has a target for taking steel production up to 110 MT by 2019–20. Nonetheless, with the current rate of ongoing greenfield and brownfield projects, the Ministry of Steel has projected India's steel capacity is expected to touch 124.06 MT by 2011–12. In fact, based on the status of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed by the private producers with the various state governments, India's steel capacity is likely to be 293 MT by 2020.

Iron Powder - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Iron is probably one of the most important, being used on the largest scale of any metal. Its Production in the blast furnace is well documented. When pure, iron is a lustrous white metal which is soft and very workable. However, it is reactive and easily forms a coating of hydrated oxide on its surface in the presence of moist air. This is non-coherent and flakes easily to reveal fresh surfaces for attack. Iron is soluble in dilute acids, where Fe(II) is produced in solution; more oxidising acids produce Fe(III) solutions and strongly oxidising agents (e.g. dichromate or concentrated nitric acid) produce a passive form of the metal, probably as a result of the formation of a coherent surface film of oxide. Iron is also an essential element for all life forms, the average human body containing 4 gm of the element. The majority of iron in the body is present within haemoglobin, the respiratory pigment which provides the mechanism for the transportation of oxygen by red blood cells. Iron powder can be used in several chemical and metallurgical processes from the production of aluminium foil to magnetic paints. For some applications there is more or less no alternative to iron powder. These applications often have special requirements for specific properties and stringent demands for consistency. In other applications the high surface area and/or purity of iron powder can more cost-effective solutions compared to alternative methods. SAW pipe is Submerged Arc Welded pipe. They are the pipes formed by the process called Submerged Arc welding. There can be two types of SAW pipes: 1. LSAW-Longitudinal SAW and 2. HSAW- Helical SAW. (aka Spiral SAW). LSAW pipes are basically pipes formed by bending rectangular steel plates and are subsequently welded longitudinally (internally and externally) along the seam to form a pipe. HSAW pipes are pipes formed by conversion on Hot Rolled Coils and are subsequently welded internally and externally to form HSAW pipes. SAW process basically consists of an arc submerged in Flux used to weld the pipe. The flux is used to isolate the arc from the atmosphere. SAW pipes are manufactured by welding the edges of steel plates or by spiral welding of hot rolled coil (HR coil). The Saw Pipes manufactured from plates are called Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded (LSAW) and are mainly used for transporting oil and gas (onshore/offshore). While, Helical Submerged Arc Welded (HSAW) pipes are made from HR coil, where the coil is welded spirally to give a shape of pipe and are mainly used for transporting oil and gas (onshore) and water transport. Apart from these, both the category of pipes can be used for structural applications also. Seamless pipes and tubes are used in both oil and non-oil sectors in a wide range of applications as line pipes, casing pipes, production tubings, drill pipes and the like. In the oil sector, API (American Petroleum Institute) standard pipes are preferred for line pipes and casing pipes. High Tensile Fasteners - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue

Industrial fasteners have a vital contribution for the growth of almost all sectors of industry. It is a wonderful manifestation which joins & secures materials together for any productive uses. A fastener is a connective mechanism that mechanically joins or affixes two or more objects together. A bolt is an externally threaded fastener designed for insertion through holes in assembled parts, and is normally intended to be tightened or released by torquing a nut. A nut is a type of hardware fastener with a threaded hole. Nuts are almost always used opposite a mating bolt to fasten a stack of parts together. The two partners are kept together by a combination of the friction of their threads, a slight stretch of the bolt, and compression of the parts. High tensile nuts and bolts find wide application in joining part where continuous rotation and wear and tear of the nuts and bolts occurs. As the nuts and bolts are subjected to variable stress in a dynamic condition, there is every likelihood that these fasteners can be failed at any instant causing situations like catastrophe. For the above purpose, nuts and bolts are manufactured from alloy steels having high tensile strength and resistant to continuous wear and tear. In construction, connectors between structural members bolted connections are used when it is necessary to fasten two elements tightly together, especially to resist shear and bending, as in column and beam connections. Threaded metal bolts are always used in conjunction with nuts. Thus, due to demand it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. Fusion bonded epoxies are one part, heat curable, thermosetting epoxy utilized for corrosion protection. FBEs are applied to heated parts in a powder form that rapidly gels from liquid to a solid and have remarkable adhesion to the steel surface. FBEs are also are very resilient coatings that resist damage during handling. FBEs are environmentally friendly and contain no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Fusion bonded epoxy coating, commonly referred as FBE coating is widely used to protect concrete reinforcing rebars, steel pipes, piping connections, etc used in construction. FBE coatings are in the form of dry powder at normal atmospheric temperature. FBE coating is a robust single-layer coating, applied by using electrostatic spray guns, and which provides excellent adhesion, flexibility and a marked resistance to cathodic disbandment – even at elevated pipeline temperatures. The powder when applied electrostatically on to the surface cleaned, hot steel bars, that it fuses, melts, flows and cures to an adherent continuous chemically cross-linked protective film. FBE coating is an industry standard, environmentally-safe thermoset polymer coating which is used as corrosion protection for pipe. Fusion bond epoxy coating, also known as powder coating or FBE coating, is an epoxy-based powder coating widely used to protect steel pipe used in pipeline construction, piping connections and valves from corrosion. Seamless Pipes and Tubes - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue

The seamless steel pipe industry is almost one century old. The prime reason for the development was provided by transportation sector. Petroleum sector consumes largest quantities of seamless tubes. The Indian seamless tube industry is about 55 Years old. Seamless pipe as the name suggests is a pipe without a seam or a weld-joint in contrast to Seam or Welded pipe. In a Seam or Welded pipe, the seam or the weld-joint is the weaker part of the pipe limiting the strength of the pipe to the strength of the weld-joint. Whereas the seamless pipe does not have any such joint and thus has uniform structure & strength all over the pipe body. Thus the seamless pipe can withstand higher pressure, higher temperature, higher mechanical stress & corrosive atmosphere and find wide applications in Oil & Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical, Chemical, Fertilizer, Power, Automotive, Bearing, Mechanical & Structural applications. The greatest advantage of seamless steel pipes is their increased ability to withstand pressure. The weakest point in a welded steel pipe is the welded seam. But because a seamless steel pipe has not been welded, it doesn’t have that seam, making it equally strong around the entire circumference of the pipe. Stainless steel pipes are used in petrochemicals, fertilizers, dairy industries power stations and nuclear plants. Other corrosion resistant applications as of food processing industry are also significant users. These pipes are used extensively by Nuclear Fuel Corporation. As a whole it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. Iron oxide

Iron oxide and oxide-hydroxide are widespread in nature, play an important role in many geological and biological processes, and are widely utilized by humans, e.g., as iron ores, pigments and catalysts in thermite. Common rust is a form of iron (III) oxide. Iron oxides are widely used as inexpensive, durable, pigments in paints, coatings and colored concretes. Colours commonly available are in the “earthy” end of the yellow/orange/red/brown/black range. Iron oxides are produced from ferrous sulfate by heat soaking, removal of water, decomposition, washing, filtration, drying and grinding. Chemical formula: Fe2O3. Appearance: Powder of size around 40 micron. Iron (III) oxide or ferric oxide is an inorganic compound with the formula Fe2O3. It is one of the three main oxides of iron. As the mineral known as hematite, Fe2O3 is the main source of the iron for the steel industry. Fe2O3 is ferromagnetic, dark red, and readily attacked by acids. Iron (III) oxide is often called rust. To some extent this label is useful, because rust shares several properties and has a similar composition. To chemists, rust is considered an ill-defined material, described as hydrated ferric oxide The overwhelming application of Iron (III) oxide is as the feedstock of the steel and iron industries, e.g. the production of iron, steel, and many alloys. Black iron oxide has the highest tint strength, generally achieving saturation at 6 percent dosage. Brown has a slightly lower tint strength, levelling -off at approximately 7 percent dosage, followed by 8 percent for red and 9 percent for yellow. The difference in colour/shade between one pigment and another is due to the surface structure of the particle. Pigments of the same family, such as reds for example, could have different undertone. Upon dilution with a white extender, reds may appear purple or pink. The reason for this is that a red pigment particle, depending on its structure, may reflect the red component of light plus a certain amount of blue (purple undertone) or some yellow (pink undertone). They are produced in either anhydrous or hydrated forms. Their range of hues includes yellows, reds, browns and blacks. The food-quality iron oxides are primarily distinguished from technical grades by their comparatively low levels of contamination by other metals; this is achieved by the selection and control of the source of the iron or by the extent of chemical purification during the manufacturing process. Applications Iron Oxide is a very fine powder of ferric oxide known as “jewellers rouge”, “red rouge”, or simply “rouge”. It is used to put the final polish on metallic jewellery and lenses, and historically as a cosmetic. Rouge is sold as a powder, paste, laced on polishing cloths or solid bar (with a wax or grease binder). Iron(III) oxide is also used as a pigment in cosmetics. Additionally, Iron oxides are used as pigments in dental composites alongside titanium oxides. Iron Oxide pigments are also used in paints and coatings; colour concentrates; and mulch. Iron oxide dispersant is one of many solutions used to purify water in water treatment facilities. It is considered to be a superior phosphate and zinc stabilizer stressed cooling water systems and an excellent iron and sludge dispersant in boilers. Compact pigment : Whereas inorganic binders do not disperse to 100% during the usual mixing times allowed, those prepared with organic wetting and deflocculating agents achieve excellent dispersion and hence provide high tinting strength in concrete products. Bayer developed compacted pigments which also incorporate organic dispersing agents. In making them, a pigment paste is pre-shaped (by the use of perforated rollers or matrices) and the prepared particles are rounded subsequently in granulation drums or on granulation plates. Comparison of natural iron oxide and synthetic iron oxide pigment The use of natural iron oxide pigment dates back centuries to prehistoric times and can be seen in cave paintings around the world. However, natural iron oxide pigments are nearly overshadowed by the synthetic variety, due to its consistency and superior tailor made properties. Synthetically prepared iron oxide pigment has been found to possess better texture, brilliance and staining power compared to natural pigment. When the colour of the paint is important, synthetic iron oxides are predominantly used because they have greater tinting strength than natural oxides. But in primers or undercoats, which are not so colour dependent as the finishing paints, natural iron oxide pigments may be used. Ceramics may also use natural oxides to provide colour for frits and glazes. Iron oxide pigment can be either produced in synthetic process or refined from naturally occurring ore deposits. A number of different processes have been developed for manufacturing synthetic iron oxide pigments. Important actually used production methods are as follows: • Laux process • Calcination process • Penniman process • Precipitation process Demand driver Iron oxide pigments are used in the coatings and colorants, construction, plastics and toner industries. The demand for iron oxide pigment would be mainly driven by the performance and growth of the paint and coating industry and polymer master batch sector. ?
