Nitric Acid (60%) from Ammonia

Nitric acid is the primary reagent used for nitration – the addition of a nitro group, typically to an organic molecule. While some resulting nitro compounds are shock- and thermally-sensitive explosives, a few are stable enough to be used in munitions and demolition, while others are still more stable and used as pigments in inks and dyes. Nitric acid is also commonly used as a strong oxidizing agent. Nitric acid is made by the reaction of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) with water. Normally, the nitric oxide produced by the reaction is re-oxidized by the oxygen in air to produce additional nitrogen dioxide. Adding sulfuric acid to a nitrate salt and heating the mixture with an oil bath can make almost pure nitric acid. A condenser is used to condense the nitric acid fumes that bubble out of the solution. The global nitric acid market size is expected to reach USD 14.0 billion by 2022, progressing at a CAGR of 1.8% during the forecast period. Flourishing agriculture industry and surging demand for fertilizers are among the key trends escalating market growth. Nitric Acid Market is expected to observe a surge in demand due to growing application in production of various chemicals including calcium ammonium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, toluene di isocyanate, adipic solutions and nitrobenzene, especially used in fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, polyurethanes and other end use industries. In addition, rising need in various chemical industries including elastomers, polyurethane foams and coatings coupled with elastomers, foam plastics, floor & wood finishes, polyurethane foam coated fabrics and different insulation materials is anticipated to boost nitric acid market growth in the forecasted period. Nitric acid is one of the world’s largest commodity chemicals. It is used predominantly as an intermediate for fertilizer production (primarily ammonium and calcium ammonium nitrate) and for the production of nitro-containing organic intermediates. The market for nitric acid was mainly driven by fertilizer industry. Nitric acid is used in manufacturing of ammonium nitrate and calcium ammonium nitrate which finds application in fertilizers. Ammonium nitrate is also used in manufacturing of urea

Superplasticizer

Superplasticizers, also known as high range water reducers, are chemical admixtures used where well-dispersed particle suspension is required. These polymers are used as dispersants to avoid particle segregation (gravel, coarse and fine sands), and to improve the flow characteristics (theology) of suspensions such as in concrete applications. Their addition to concrete or mortar allows the reduction of the water to cement ratio without negatively affecting the workability of the mixture, and enables the production of self-consolidating concrete and high performance concrete. Another benefit of superplasticizers is concrete early strength enhancement (50 to 75%). The initial setting time may be accelerated up to an hour earlier or retarded to be an hour later according to its chemical reaction. The use of superplasticizers does not significantly affect surface tension of water and does not entrain a significant amount of air. The main disadvantage of superplasticizer usage is loss of workability as a result of rapid slump loss and incompatibility of cement and superplasticizers. The global superplasticizer market is expected to register a moderate CAGR during the forecast period (2018-2023). Superplasticizer is a chemical admixture used where well-dispersed particle suspension is required. These polymers are used as a type of dispersants to improve the flow characteristics of suspensions and avoid particle segregation in concrete applications. Asia-Pacific is expected to have the highest CAGR followed by Middle-East & Africa during the forecast period, while North America accounted the largest share of the market in 2017. Superplasticizer market is the widening application scope of concrete superplasticizers. Furthermore, the ongoing research and development projects to enhance the efficiency of the construction industry is expected to bode well for the growth of the global concrete superplasticizer market. Owing to factors such as mounting population and the need for efficient infrastructure to accommodate the rising population, the construction industry has received a shot in the arm. As a result of this, the demand for concrete superplasticizers is anticipated to intensify over the consecutive years.

Nickel Catalyst for Hydrogenation of Vegetable Oil

Nickel catalysis plays a central role in many synthetic transformations ranging from cross coupling reactions in which carbon-carbon bonds are formed to the reduction of electron rich carbon bonds with raney nickel catalysts. Sigma-Aldrich provides an extensive suite of such nickel catalysts. Nickel-based catalytic systems are used in the production of many industrial and consumer products, and play a key role in organic synthesis. Hydrogenation, vegetable oils are reacted with hydrogen gas at about 60ºC. A nickel catalyst is used to speed up the reaction. The double bonds are converted to single bonds in the reaction. In this way unsaturated fats can be made into saturated fats – they are hardened. Hydrogenation of fats and oils is a very important operation in the industrial process of producing vegetable tallow, vegetable fats, margarines, and starting components for the cosmetic and chemical industry such as emulsifiers, soaps, creams, pastes, and similar substances. There are two main reasons why hydrogenation is important to the industry. The first is increasing the stability of the oil. Highly unsaturated oil is susceptible to autoxidation, thermal decomposition, and other reactions that affect the flavor. Consequently, it is desired to partially hydrogenate the oil to improve shelf life. The second reason to partially hydrogenate vegetable oil is to improve its utility. For most products, such as shortenings, margarines, or confectionery fats, the desired softening and melting characteristics correspond to oils that are partially hydrogenated. The choice of catalyst to use for hydrogenation greatly affects the properties of the final product.

Benzoic Acid Production Business

Benzoic Acid Production Business. Profitable Business Ideas in Chemical Industry Benzoic acid, C6H5COOH, is a colourless crystalline solid and the simplest aromatic carboxylic acid. Benzoic acid occurs naturally free and bound as benzoic acid esters in many plant and animal species. Appreciable amounts have been found in most berries (around 0. 05%). Cranberries contain as much as 300-1300 mg free benzoic acid per kg fruit. Benzoic acid is a fungistatic compound that is widely used as a food preservative. It often is conjugated to glycine in the liver and excreted as hippuric acid. Benzoic acid is a byproduct of phenylalanine metabolism in bacteria. It is also produced when gut bacteria process polyphenols (from ingested fruits or beverages). Benzoic acid has the advantage that it does not affect the odor or taste of the soft drink, if used in small quantities. The preserving quality of benzoic acid is based on its activity to delay the multiplication of several groups of microorganisms, which, however, are not killed by this product. The low solubility of benzoic acid in water complicates its application in products containing large amounts of water. Therefore, the water-soluble salt sodium benzoate is used. Benzoic acid and its salts used as preservatives are represented by E- numbers, E210, E211, E212, and E213. Benzoates are salts and esters of Benzoic acid. Dimethyl Sulphate

Dimethyl sulfate is a chemical compound with formula (CH3O)2SO2. As the diester of methanol and sulfuric acid, its formula is often written as (CH3)2SO4 or even Me2SO4, where CH3 or Me is methyl. Me2SO4 is mainly used as a methylating agent in organic synthesis. Dimethyl Sulfate is an odorless, corrosive, oily liquid with an onion-like odor that emits toxic fumes upon heating. Dimethyl sulfate is used in industry as a methylating agent in the manufacture of many organic chemicals. Inhalation exposure to its vapors is highly irritating to the eyes and lungs and may cause damage to the liver, kidney, heart and central nervous system, while dermal contact causes severe blistering. It is a possible mutagen and is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen based on evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals. Dimethyl sulfate hydrolyzes slowly in cold water but rapidly in warm water and acidic solutions. The hydrolysis occurs stepwise, initially forming methyl sulfuric acid, then sulfuric acid and methanol. It can be calculated that DMS hydrolyzes to methyl sulfuric acid with 99.9% completion as follows: Dimethyl sulfate is used as chemical intermediate, hence the global dimethyl sulfate market is anticipated to experience strong growth over the foreseeable future, owing to its numerous applications in different chemicals. Furthermore, the fabric softeners market is expected to experience strong growth during the forecast period, which would boost the demand for dimethyl sulfate, as the latter is used to manufacture fabric softeners.

Ephedrine Hydrochloride

Ephedrine hydrochloride is a phenethylamine found in EPHEDRA SINICA. PSEUDOEPHEDRINE is an isomer. It is an alpha- and beta-adrenergic agonist that may also enhance release of norepinephrine. It has been used for asthma, heart failure, rhinitis, and urinary incontinence, and for its central nervous system stimulatory effects in the treatment of narcolepsy and depression. It has become less extensively used with the advent of more selective agonists. Ephedrine should be used with caution in patients who may be particularly susceptible to their effects, particularly those with hyperthyroidism. Great care is also needed in patients with cardiovascular disease such as ischaemic heart disease, arrhythmia or tachycardia, occlusive vascular disorders including arteriosclerosis, hypertension, or aneurysms. Angina pain may be precipitated in patients with angina pectoris. Ephedrine hydrochloride was used in the control of the inflammatory response. It was also used to treat hypotension caused by either anesthesia or overdose of antihypertensive drugs.
