Agro Based Industry: Project Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh

PROFILE:

Agro-based industry would mean any activity involved in cultivation, under controlled conditions of agricultural and horticultural crops, including floriculture and cultivation of vegetables and post-harvest operation on all fruits and vegetables. The development of agro-industries has assumed crucial importance in the economic planning and progress of the country. The agro industry is regarded as an extended arm of agriculture. The development of the agro industry can help stabilise and make agriculture more lucrative and create employment opportunities both at the production and marketing stages. The broad-based development of the agro-products industry will improve both the social and physical infrastructure of India.

RESOURCES:

Uttar Pradesh is a very fertile region and a major contributor to the national food grain stock. Partly this is due to the fertile regions of the Indo-Gangetic plain, and partly owing to irrigation measures such as the Ganga Canal. Lakhimpur Kheri is the largest sugar producing district in the country. It is also home to 78% of national livestock population. Uttar Pradesh is among the largest producers of agricultural commodities in the country. It produces 34 per cent of the total groundnut, 17.5 per cent of rapeseed, 8 per cent of fruits and 14 per cent of vegetables. It has the largest livestock in the country and its milk production is the highest in the country. It is the largest producer of sugarcane and ranks second in the manufacture of sugar. Uttar Pradesh, with its prosperity in the agricultural sector enabled the growth of allied industry like warehousing, cold storages and flourmills. At 2,659, food product manufacturing sector has the highest number of factories (19.5 per cent of the total) in the state.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

In India, agricultural trade policy is a part of a larger food and agriculture policy regime that seeks to maintain food self-sufficiency while providing income support to the agricultural sector and poor consumers. The Government of India (GOI) uses a variety of policy instruments in attempting to achieve these goals, including:

·         Domestic subsidies to inputs, outputs, transportation, storage, and consumption to reduce producer costs and consumer prices.

·         Border measures such as subsidies, tariffs, quotas, and non-tariff measures to protect domestic producers from import competition, manage domestic price levels, and guarantee domestic supply.

The National Policy on Agriculture seeks to actualise the vast untapped growth potential of Indian agriculture, strengthen rural infrastructure to support faster agricultural development, promote value addition, accelerate the growth of agro business, create employment in rural areas, secure a fair standard of living for the farmers and agricultural workers and their families, discourage migration to urban areas and face the challenges arising out of economic liberalization and globalisation. Over the next two decades, it aims to attain:

·         A growth rate in excess of 4 per cent per annum in the agriculture sector;

·         Growth that is based on efficient use of resources and conserves our soil, water and bio-diversity;

·         Growth with equity, i.e., growth which is widespread across regions and farmers;

·         Growth that is demand driven and caters to domestic markets and maximises benefits from exports of agricultural products in the face of the challenges arising from economic liberalization and globalisation;

·         Growth that is sustainable technologically, environmentally and economically.

The policy seeks to promote technically sound, economically viable, environmentally non-degrading, and socially acceptable use of country’s natural resources - land, water and genetic endowment to promote sustainable development of agriculture.

Live Stock: Project Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh

PROFILE:

Livestock sector plays a critical role in the welfare of India's rural population. Indian livestock industry represents major foods of animal origin: milk, eggs, chicken, goat meat and fish.  Beef and pork industries have a limited share in the market, as most Indians do not eat beef and pork. As far as feed is concerned poultry, cattle and aqua feeds have been developed in an organised way. The production regions of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and coastal areas are rich in the production of animal feed due to high crop cultivation and industrial setups that give animal feed as the by product. Enormous growth opportunities and scope exist in the Indian livestock industry; all that is required is a right approach in an appropriate direction. No doubt, if the industry is tapped appropriately it can help India become a leader in milk and meat production in the years to come.

RESOURCES:

Uttar Pradesh supports about 15% of the country's total livestock population. Of its livestock in 1961, 15% were cattle, 21% buffaloes, 13% goats and 8% other livestock. Between 1951 and 1956 there was an overall increase of 14% in the livestock population. There are nearly eight lakh hectares of water area, including lakes, tanks, rivers, canals and streams. The fishing area is over two lakh hectares and more than 175 varieties of fish. Among them are rohu, hilsa, mahseer, mangar, snow trout and mirror carp. Uttar Pradesh milk co-operatives are contributing immensely to the Indian dairy industry, the highest milk producer in the world. The impact of Uttar Pradesh milk co-operatives can be ascertained from their role in the private and co-operative systems. With the launch of innovative technologies Uttar Pradesh is now being able to enhance their milk production acutely. The merging of the rural and the urban contribution to the dairy production in Uttar Pradesh forms the Uttar Pradesh milk co-operative union.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

The livestock sector has great but untapped potential to contribute to poverty alleviation and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

·         Agricultural growth can be highly effective in reducing poverty as the largest share of the world’s poor live in rural areas.

·         Livestock provide food and income to the majority of the 1.2 billion people living on less than $1 per day.

·         Demand for livestock products is growing fast in developing countries, faster than demand for staple crops, and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

·          This demand growth can provide significant opportunities for many rural and peri-urban poor to increase returns from their livestock resources.

Waste management: Project Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh

PROFILE:

Waste utilization, recycling and reuse plays a major role in limiting resource consumption and the environmental impact of waste. Recycling is an integral part of any waste management system as it represents a key utilization alternative to reuse and energy recovery (Waste-to-Energy). Which option is ultimately chosen depends on the quality, purity and the market situation. Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asian countries including India. The lack of technical and financial resources and the regulatory control for the management of hazardous wastes in the past had led to the unscientific disposal of hazardous wastes in India, which posed serious risks to human, animal and plant life.

RESOURCES:

The city of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh produces around 1500 tons of solid waste every day. The municipal workers collect around 1100 tons every day. The municipal solid waste (MSW) is disposed of haphazardly in open dumps. With growing pressure on land due to increasing population it is increasingly difficult for Lucknow Nagar Nigam (LNN) to locate new disposal sites. In order to overcome this difficulty the LNN has entered into a contract with a company to process MSW generated in the city and to generate power and organic manure from it.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Government of Uttar Pradesh proposes development of Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project (IMSWMP) For Agra, Uttar Pradesh. UP Awas Bandhu is the nodal agency for the project. The Project has been conceptualized as an Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project comprising of the following facilities:

·         Collection of waste from individual households and its segregation into Bio-degradable and Non-biodegradable wastes.

·         Construction, Operation & Maintenance of MSW Transfer stations including Secondary transportation of waste from the transfer stations to the Treatment and Disposal facilities.

·         Development, Operation & Maintenance of Processing Facility with compost plant and any other suitable plant such as RDF, etc.

·         Development, Operation & Maintenance of Sanitary Landfill Facility including Closure of the Existing Dumpsite.

·         Setting up STPs as required beyond those proposed in JNNURM

·         O&M of all existing STPs and those to be setup by PPP development and also under JNNURM as required.

Bicycle Tubes - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Bicycle tubes are the backbone of the bicycle industries. Few numbers of companies in organized sector are engaged in the quality grade cycles tyres and tubes and few unorganized sector also engaged to manufacturing bicycle tyre and tubes. An inner tube is basically a doughnut-shaped balloon, with a valve for inflation. The only requirement for an inner tube is that it should not leak. Being rubber, they have no rigid structure. If an inner tube is inflated outside of a tire, it will expand to 2 or 3 times its nominal size, if it doesn't explode first. Without being surrounded by a tire, an inner tube can't withstand any significant air pressure. Most of the basic raw materials are indigenously available but there is short supply of natural rubber, it is required to import. Natural rubber is used in the carcass of passenger car cross-ply tyres for its building tack, ply adhesion, and good tear resistance. It is also used in the sidewalls of radial ply tyres for its fatigue resistance and low heat buildup. In tyres for commercial and industrial vehicles, natural rubber content increases with tyre size. Almost 100% natural rubber is used in the large truck and earthmover tyres which require low heat buildup and maximum cut resistance. Natural rubber is also used in industrial goods, such as hoses, conveyor belts, and rubberized fabrics; engineering products, for resilient load bearing and shock or vibration absorption components; and latex products such as gloves, and adhesives. Tubes of motorcycles and bicycle are used in the appropriate vehicle for riding the vehicle. Bicycles continue to be the principal mode of transport for the low and middle-income families. This is because of the bicycle is both environment and people friendly. India is the largest producer of bicycles next only to china. Today, the Indian bicycle manufacturing and bicycle parts industry is widely recognized for its quality standards in the international market. As bicycle continues to be the most popular mode of transport both in urban and rural areas, the demand for bicycle tubes is likely to increase day by day. Moreover, this is a labour intensive type of unit and can be located in rural areas solving rural unemployment problem. Small scale bicycle tube unit can also function as ancillaries to establish large scale manufacturers. As a whole it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. ? Lime, magnesia, strontium, and baryts were found to have alkaline reactions and were called alkaline earths. The alkaline earth metal includes magnesium, calcium, strontium, and barium. All the alkali metals react with dilute acids like Sulfuric acid, Hydrochloric acid etc. to form their salts. Magnesium reacts with Sulfuric acid to form magnesium Sulphate. Magnesium Sulphate is commercially available as heptahydrate, monohydrate, anhydrous or dried form containing the equivalent of 2-3 waters of hydration. Magnesium Sulphate occurs naturally in seawater, mineral springs and in minerals such as kieserite and epsomite. Magnesium Sulphate heptahydrate is manufactured by dissolution of kieserite in water and subsequent crystallization of the heptahydrate. Magnesium Sulphate is available as brilliant colourless crystals, granular crystalline powder or white powder with a bitter salty cooling taste. Crystals effloresce in warm, dry air. It is freely soluble in water, very soluble in boiling water, and sparingly soluble in alcohol. Magnesite (40% MgO) is the raw material used for manufacturing magnesium sulphate. Lubricants Blending Plant (Lubricants/Grease) - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

A lubricant is a substance introduced to reduce friction between moving surfaces. It may also have the function of transporting foreign particles. The property of reducing friction is known as lubricity. (Slipperiness). A good lubricant possesses the following characteristics: High boiling point , Low freezing point ,High viscosity index , Thermal stability , Corrosion prevention , High resistance to oxidation. Lubricants are typically used to separate moving parts in a system. This has the benefit of reducing friction and surface fatigue, together with reduced heat generation, operating noise and vibrations. Lubricants may contain additives known as friction modifiers that chemically bind to metal surfaces to reduce surface friction even when there is insufficient bulk lubricant present for hydrodynamic lubrication, e.g. protecting the valve train in a car engine at startup. On average, lubricating oils, which quantitatively account for about 90% of lubricant consumption, consist of about 93% base oils and 7% chemical additives and other components (between 0.5 and 40 %). A solid or semisolid lubricant consisting of a thickening agent (soap or other additives) in a fluid lubricant (usually petroleum lubricating oil) is called grease.Grease is a lubricant which has been thickened in order that it remains in contact with moving surfaces and not leak out under gravity or centrifugal action. Functions of lubricating grease:- Reduce Wear and Tear , Sealant to Contaminants , Prevent Corrosion, Prevent Rust , Heat Transmission , Resist. The production of simple lubricants normally involves blending processes but specialties often require the use of chemical processes such as saponification (in the case of greases), esterification (when manufacturing ester base oils or additives) or amidation (when manufacturing components for metalworking lubricants). Further manufacturing processes include drying, filtration, homogenizing, dispersion or distillation. Throughout the world, industrial applications account for most of the grease used for railroad, general manufacturing, steel production and mining predominate Among automotive applications, trucks and buses account for the majority of grease used, followed by agricultural/construction equipment and passenger cars. Tractor is one of the most important farm machineries. We can say that tractor is the forehand of the farming industry. This is the blessing of god as well as science to get largest amount crops in the limited farming land with limited time. It belongs to the automobile industry. The word "tractor" is related to words like "traction" and "tractive," from the Latin word "tractus" meaning drawing (pulling): a tractor is essentially a machine designed to pull things along, usually very slowly and surely. The agricultural tractor is one of the class of mobile machines that involves the ‘traction’ process. The word 'traction' and name 'tractor' come from the word to 'draw' or 'pull' so a tractor is basically a machine for pulling; other mobile machines such as locomotives are in the same class. Vehicles like road trucks and even motor cars, which are essentially vehicles for carrying loads, also involve the traction process. Tractors have long been an essential piece of equipment on the farm. They revolutionized the agricultural industry by adding a whole new level of efficiency. Further it has eliminated the laborious work to a greater extent. Now-a-days, tractors are also used in construction, landscaping and industrial settings. Granite Mining (E.O.U.) - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue

Granite is a common type of felsic intrusive igneous rock which is granular and phaneritic in texture. These rocks mainly consist of feldspar, quartz, mica, and amphibole minerals. These form interlocking somewhat equigranular matrix of feldspar and quartz with scattered darker biotite mica and amphibole (often hornblende) peppering the lighter color minerals. Granite is nearly always massive (lacking any internal structures), hard and tough, and therefore it has gained widespread use throughout human history, and more recently as a construction stone. The granite used for decorative purposes is a costly material in comparison with other materials. Granite has been extensively used as a dimension stone and as flooring tiles in public and commercial buildings and monuments. Polished granite is also a popular choice for kitchen countertops due to its high durability and aesthetic qualities. In building and for countertops, the term "granite" is often applied to all igneous rocks with large crystals. Shrimp Farming (E.O.U.) - Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Shrimps are swimming, decapod crustaceans classified in the infra order Caridea, found widely around the world in both fresh and salt water. Shrimps are an important food source for larger animals from fish to whales. They have a high tolerance to toxins in polluted areas, and may contribute to high toxin levels in their predators. Together with prawns, shrimps are widely caught and farmed for human consumption. A shrimp is a kind of seafood that is used as an input, for a variety of processed food products. It can be barbecued, boiled, broiled, baked and sautéed. Variety of shrimp products like pineapple, lemon, coconut, pepper shrimp and shrimp soup, stew, salad, burger, sandwich, kebabs, gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried are available and largely consumed in USA and Japan. Thus, Shrimp has domestic and global market as an important sea food and as input into a variety of processed food products. Apart from Fresh Shrimp, there is also very large demand for frozen shrimp in international market. Selection for a suitable site is a critical activity and must be carefully determined before establishing of a shrimp farm. Site evaluation is not only undertaken to determine if a site is suitable for shrimp farming. It is also valuable in determining what modifications are needed concerning layout, engineering, and management practices to make shrimp farming possible at a given site. World production of shrimp, both captured and farmed, is around six million tones Shrimp is now the most important internationally traded fishery commodity in terms of value. Thus, due to demand it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. Few Indian Major Players are as under • Accelerated Freeze Drying Co. Carbon Fiber - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Carbon fibers have been under continuous development for the last 50 years. The properties of carbon fibers, such as high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion, make them very popular in aerospace, civil engineering, military, and motorsports, along with other competition sports. However, they are relatively expensive when compared to similar fibers, such as glass fibers or plastic fibers. Carbon fibers are usually combined with other materials to form a composite. When combined with a plastic resin and wound or molded it forms carbon fiber reinforced polymer (often referred to as carbon fiber) which has a very high strength-to-weight ratio, and is extremely rigid although somewhat brittle. However, carbon fibers are also composited with other materials, such as with graphite to form carbon-carbon composites, which have a very high heat tolerance. Carbon fiber is most notably used to reinforce composite materials, particularly the class of materials known as carbon fiber or graphite reinforced polymers. Non-polymer materials can also be used as the matrix for carbon fibers. Due to the formation of metal carbides and corrosion considerations, carbon has seen limited success in metal matrix composite applications. Reinforced carbon-carbon (RCC) consists of carbon fiber-reinforced graphite, and is used structurally in high-temperature applications. The fiber also finds use in filtration of high-temperature gases, as an electrode with high surface area and impeccable corrosion resistance, and as an anti-static component. European companies consume 46% of the quantity of carbon fiber used worldwide in the aerospace and defence sector while their counterparts in the USA use a further 33%. Furthermore, 86% of the carbon fiber used in the area of sport/leisure is processed in China, a result of pricing pressure and the fact that this sector is now primarily dominated by mass production methods. The future of Carbon Fiber is very bright, with vast potential in many different industries. As a whole it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest.
