It also plays a major role in the economy of the country. India earns about 27% of its total foreign exchange through textile exports. Further, the textile industry of India also contributes nearly 14% of the total industrial production of the country. It also contributes around 3% to the GDP of the country. India textile industry is also the largest in the country in terms of employment generation. It not only generates jobs in its own industry, but also opens up scopes for the other ancillary sectors. India textile industry currently generates employment to more than 35 million people.

RESOURCES:

Punjab is a major grower of cotton and has a long established industry of cotton spinning and weaving. The Textile Industry is also one of the largest provider of employment and accounts of almost 60% of industrial employment in the State of Punjab. It has been noted that even with high level of mechanisation, the chances of machine replacing human are minimum in the sector due to essential skill requirement. The textiles industry of Punjab already has wool and acrylic fibre base.  To sustain the thrust on textiles, some balance with manmade and blended fibre products will have to be maintained to cater to an expanding market for manmade and blended textiles. It provides employment opportunity to semi literates and lower section of the society where the incident of unemployment is most glaring. Most importantly the Textile Sector is one of the biggest employment providing sectors to women. Hence any boost to Textile Industry will definitely provide and offer opportunity of large number of employment to the youths in the State of Punjab.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

The Ministry of Textiles in India has formulated numerous policies and schemes for the development of the textile industry in India. The government of India has been following a policy of promoting and encouraging the handloom sector through a number of programmes. Waste management and recycling: Project Opportunities in Punjab

PROFILE:

Rapid industrialization last few decades have led to the depletion of pollution of precious natural resources in India depletes and pollutes resources continuously. Further the rapid industrial developments have, also, led to the generation of huge quantities of hazardous wastes, which have further aggravated the environmental problems in the country by depleting and polluting natural resources. Therefore, rational and sustainable utilization of natural resources and its protection from toxic releases is vital for sustainable socio-economic development.

Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asian countries including India. The lack of technical and financial resources and the regulatory control for the management of hazardous wastes in the past had led to the unscientific disposal of hazardous wastes in India, which posed serious risks to human, animal and plant life.

RESOURCES:

In Punjab, growth of population, industrialization and urbanization has resulted in generation of large volumes of solid waste. The total amount of collected solid waste from the districts includes 1108012.25 MT of municipal waste and 6695.57 MT of bio-medical waste (PPCB as cited in Statistical Abstract of Punjab, 2007). The factors contributing to the generation of solid waste are:

•      The state has registered 45% increase in its population during the last decades.

•      The state is the 7th most urbanized state in the country with urban population increasing to 33.95% against a national average of 27.8%.

•      The state has two (Ludhiana & Amritsar) cities with more than 1 million population.

•        The state supports a large number of floating populations from other states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.

•      Most of the solid waste is presently disposed of on land and remains uncovered resulting in environmental pollution of surrounding area.

•        The change in life style towards consumes and discard culture is responsible for adding to municipal solid waste and changing waste composition. It also adds pressure on the existing municipal solid waste handling infrastructure, as well as, disposal sites.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

National policy on waste management is set out in the October 1998 policy statement on waste management- Changing our Ways. It outlines the Government's policy objectives in relation to waste management, and suggests some key issues and considerations that must be addressed to achieve these objectives. The policy is firmly grounded in an internationally recognised hierarchy of options, namely prevention, minimisation, reuse/recycling, and the environmentally sustainable disposal of waste which cannot be prevented or recovered.

Bioplastic Carry Bags and Garbage Bags Production

Bioplastic Carry Bags and Garbage Bags Production. Biodegradable, Compostable and Eco-Friendly Carry Bags and Trash Bags Manufacturing Business Polyethylene is one of the most common forms of plastics used in protective packaging materials. As biodegradable bags are introduced onto the market, polyethylene can soon be completely replaced. Biodegradable bags are typically made out of cornstarch and other natural materials. The use of biodegradable plastic could come in easily for the use of carrying goods rather than as a primary package. A wider use of such bio degradable materials will make them commercially viable. Compostable plastic bags dominate the market for biodegradable plastics in Europe. They not only carry goods and biowaste but also the hopes of the bioplastics industry for huge markets in years to come. The global bio plastics market was US$19.54 bln in 2016 and is estimated to reach US$65.58 bln in 2022 at an estimated CAGR of 22.36% for the forecasted period. In the year 2012, the global bio plastics production capacity was approximately 1.3 mln tons of which Asia Pacific region accounted for largest share. By 2020, Asia Pacific region is projected to be the largest consumer of bio plastics globally followed by North America and Europe. Eco-friendly initiatives by corporates and abundant availability of raw materials for manufacturing bio plastics are prominent factors driving growth in Asia Pacific bio plastics market. Europe and North America are expected to dominate the overall market of biodegradable packaging. North America is expected to be the largest consumer of the biodegradable packaging market. The developed regions are expected to dominate the overall biodegradable packaging market owing to the presence of mature markets that consist of highly environmental conscious consumers. In addition, the presence of high-spending population is also expected to increase the overall demand for biodegradable packaging in the developed regions. The presence of large populations in Asia Pacific is expected to boost the biodegradable packaging market. Owing to the increase in the contract manufacturing process coupled with increased governmental interest to promote biodegradable products by providing incentives in some countries such as China and India is further expected to contribute to the growth of the market. The wide versatility of the use of plastics in bags and sacks and their inadequate disposal have added to the vastly rising pollution problem of traditional, petroleum-based plastics world over. Made from a variety of all-natural plant materials such as polylactic acids (PLAs), polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), and corn, biodegradable bags and sacks also contain additives to facilitate degradation and hence pose lesser impact on the ecology in general and marine life in particular. These bags are being preferred over conventional plastic products, notably for the food packaging and fast-moving consumer goods. Furthermore, the use of biodegradable plastics is found to be promising in addressing the problem of plastics pollution in several developed and emerging countries, which is expected to catalyze the growth of the market. The substantial demand for ecofriendly and reusable plastic sacks and bags in the retail industry is a prominent factor bolstering the adoption of these bags. The declining price of key raw materials used in making biodegradable plastics in several countries is likely to bode well for the market. Currently, the bio-plastics carrier bags market is witnessing high demand across various industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, automotive, retail, health and personal care as they come in a wide range of attractive designs and shapes. Increasing consumer demand for the eco-friendly plastic carrier bags has led the plastic manufacturers to shift from traditional plastic bags to bio-plastic carrier bags. Another significant factor that drives the bio-plastic carrier bags market is the re-usability characteristic which is highly preferred by the consumers. Government initiative towards purchasing eco-friendly solutions have further fueled up the demand for bio-plastic carrier bags market. Bio-plastic carrier bags market is expected to grow significantly during the forecast period because of its increasing usage in various industries as well as by the consumers. Bioplastic Garbage Bag A garbage bag is a material utilized for the collection, storage, disposal, and handling of garbage. In addition, disposable bags find vast applications among transportation and distribution of garbage. These bags are produced by different materials such as low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polythene (HDPE), recycled polythene, liner blend polythene, woven polypropylene, biodegradable polythene, and co-extruded plastic bags. In addition, these bags effectively reduce dependency on oil, thereby providing domestic solution to plastic film manufacturers. They are designed as per FDA and USDA specifications, and are therefore hygienic, leak proof, lightweight, durable, portable, offer resistance to air & water, meet, and can be recycled. Therefore, disposable garbage bags wide are widely used in households, colleges, offices, shops, restaurants, hospitals, and industries. Compostable trash bags are a great way to transport compostable and food waste to the compost facility. Many companies now offer so called biodegradable trash bags that are actually not biodegradable. There is recent university research that evaluated the various additives added to the plastic to supposedly make so-called biodegradable garbage bags compostable. As it turns out, the additives are ineffective. What happens is the bags break down into tinier pieces that are then ingested by fish. Increase in disposable income and rise in purchasing power of consumers have fueled the demand for convenient and cost-effective garbage bags for collecting waste, which fuel the market growth. Moreover, rise in demand for premium garbage bags owing to their stretchable strength and odor control properties propels the market growth. However, implementation of stringent regulations and taxation over the use of plastic bags to mitigate the harmful effects on the environment are expected to restrain the market growth. Bioplastic Film

Plastic materials have made entry in every sphere of human life because of its superior characteristics such as durability, strengths, shape and moldable property, since these plastics have high molecular weight & tightly bonded together these are non-degradable, rendering their disposal difficult, which inversely leads to negative impact on the environment. Thus the concept of biodegradable plastic came as a solution which could be produced and degraded by microorganism in the environment when proper condition such as sunlight, moisture, oxygen etc. are available. Biodegradable plastics are the type of plastics that undergo decomposition over a period of time under composting conditions. The global biodegradable plastics market accounts for less than 1% of the overall plastics market, however, it is expected to grow at a fast pace over the next 5 years. The market growth is driven by continuous R&D activities, increased environmental awareness, and implementation of stringent environmental regulations. Bio based biodegradable plastics find their application in a variety of sectors, including fibres, medical, packaging, and agriculture. The demand for bio based biodegradable plastics is massive in the packaging sector, and it is anticipated that status quo will be maintained in the next five years as well. Other prominent sectors which will create robust demand for bio based biodegradable market include agriculture and medical. Biodegradable plastics have found their end-use in a variety of commercial applications. It is estimated that packaging and disposable house wares drive the biodegradable market. Foam packaging continues to represent significant market share for biodegradable plastics. Compostable bags, as well as single-use carrier plastic bags, follow foam packaging in terms of volume. Another developing use for biodegradable plastics is in the shale gas industry, where they are used during hydrofracking as more environmentally friendly proppants to “prop open” fractures in rock layers so oil and gas can be released.

Production of Bioplastic Film using Biodegradable Resin, PLA (Polylactic Acid)

Production of Bioplastic Film using Biodegradable Resin, PLA (Polylactic Acid). Biodegradable Film Manufacturing Business - Sustainable Alternative to Plastics Bioplastic is a biodegradable material that come from renewable sources and can be used to reduce the problem of plastic waste that is suffocating the planet and polluting the environment. These are 100% degradable, equally resistant and versatile, already used in agriculture, textile industry, medicine and, over all, in the container and packaging market, and biopolymers are already becoming popular in cities throughout Europe and the United States for ecological reasons: they are known as PHA. Advantages of Bioplastics: • They reduce carbon footprint • They providing energy savings in production • They do not involve the consumption of non-renewable raw materials • Their production reduces non-biodegradable waste that contaminates the environment • They do not contain additives that are harmful to health, such as phthalates or Bisphenol A • They do not change the flavor or scent of the food contained Growth of Bioplastics The predicted growth in the production of bioplastics is being driven by a number of factors, including: • The fluctuating cost of petroleum and the drive for independence from fossil fuels • increasing availability of bioplastics and decreasing cost as greater volumes are produced • Environmental and social impacts of petrochemical-based plastics including carbon footprint, sustainability, pollution involved in end-of-life disposal and health concerns such as leaching of chemicals from plastic packaging into food products • Branding and product differentiation as manufacturers perceive a marketing advantage • Waste minimization regulations • The fact that plastic products are useful and we’ve become used to using them. Biodegradable Plastic Film are known for being biodegradable and eco-friendly. PLA and PLA blends generally come in the form of granulates with various properties, and are used in the plastic processing industry for the production of films, fibers, plastic containers, cups and bottles. PLA is also the most common type of plastic filament used for home fused deposition modeling. Market Outlook With increasing concerns over the use of plastics, sustainable alternatives to plastics are increasingly in demand. Biopolymers in general and bioplastics in particular, present one such sustainable alternative. The global biodegradable plastics market is expected to reach ~16.8 billion by 2022 with CAGR ~8.4% between 2016-2022. Rising consumer awareness about global warming and government legislation such as banned on plastic bags will increase the demand for biodegradable plastics across the globe. Plastics that decompose to carbon dioxide and water under the actions of microorganisms is known as biodegradable plastics. Biodegradable plastics are produced by fermentation of sugar or canola oil to produce polylactic acid (PLA) or polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) which in turn converted into biodegradable plastics. A sustainable alternative to traditional plastics, bioplastics are plastics that are fully or partially biobased, and/or biodegradable or compostable. In other words, they are plastics that are made from renewable resources such as corn, tapioca, potatoes, sugar and algae and breaks down faster than traditional plastics, which are typically made from petroleum, and other fossil resources such as natural gas. Bioplastics have numerous applications like packaging, bottles, utensils, furniture etc. Globally, the production capacity of bioplastics is highest in Asia followed by South America and Europe. As Asia and South America are closer to where feedstock is grown, the production capacity of bioplastics is higher in these regions. Growing sensitivity to climate change and increasing prices of oil have together contributed to rise in demand of bioplastics products. New high performance bioplastics is being introduced in the market that can withstand higher temperatures. Many companies are also planning to substitute feedstock with some other biobased material or nonfood alternative feedstock from biomass, so as to reduce their dependency on feedstock availability. Polylactic acid-based biodegradable plastics dominate the biodegradable plastics market. This is due to large scale application in packaging industry owing to superior properties such as high mechanical strength and low toxicity. Polylactic acid is fermented by action of wheat starch and corn starch which provide a good appearance to various products across the end user industries. Starch based biodegradable plastics are expected to overtake polylactic acid based biodegradable plastics over the forecasted period owing to high tensile strength and impact resistance in packaging and consumer goods. The adoption of bioplastics in rigid packaging was the highest in 2017 and is expected to grow at the same pace throughout 2024. Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) Manufacturing Industry

Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) Manufacturing Industry. Production of Fiber Optic Cables. How to Start Your Own Cable Manufacturing Business An optical fiber cable is a type of cable that has a number of optical fibers bundled together, which are normally covered in their individual protective plastic covers. Optical cables are used to transfer digital data signals in the form of light up to distances of hundreds of miles with higher throughput rates than those achievable via electrical communication cables. All optical fibers use a core of hair-like transparent silicon covered with less refractive indexed cladding to avoid light leakage to the surroundings. Uses of Fiber Optic Cables: Fiber optic cables find many uses in a wide variety of industries and applications. Some uses of fiber optic cables are described below: • Medical It is used as light guides, imaging tools and also as lasers for surgeries. • Defense/Government It is used as hydrophones for seismic and sonar purposes, as wiring in aircraft, submarines and other vehicles and as well as for field networking. • Data Storage It can be used for data transmission. • Telecommunications Fiber is laid and used for transmitting and receiving purposes. • Networking It can be used to connect users and servers in different network settings and can also help increase the speed and accuracy of data transmission. • Industrial/Commercial It is also used for imaging in difficult to reach areas viz a viz as wiring where EMI is an issue, or as a sensory device used to make temperature, pressure and other measurements, as wiring in automobiles and in industrial settings. • Broadcast/CATV It is no news that broadcast and cable companies are making use of fiber optic cables for wiring CATV, HDTV, internet, video on-demand and other applications. Fiber optic cables can be used for lighting as well as imaging and sensors to measure and monitor a vast array of variables. They can also be used in research and development as well as testing across all the above-mentioned industries. Advantages of Optical Fiber Cable: • Bandwidth Fiber optic cables have a much greater bandwidth than metal cables. The amount of information that can be transmitted per unit time of fiber over other transmission media is its most significant advantage. • Low Power Loss An optical fiber offers low power loss, which allows for longer transmission distances. In comparison to copper, in a network, the longest recommended copper distance is 100m while with fiber, it is 2km. • Interference Fiber optic cables are immune to electromagnetic interference. It can also be run in electrically noisy environments without concern as electrical noise will not affect fiber. • Size In comparison to copper, a fiber optic cable has nearly 4.5 times as much capacity as the wire cable has and a cross sectional area that is 30 times less. • Weight Fiber optic cables are much thinner and lighter than metal wires. They also occupy less space with cables of the same information capacity. Lighter weight makes fiber easier to install. • Security Optical fibers are difficult to tap. As they do not radiate electromagnetic energy, emissions cannot be intercepted. As physically tapping the fiber takes great skill to do undetected, fiber is the most secure medium available for carrying sensitive data. • Flexibility An optical fiber has greater tensile strength than copper or steel fibers of the same diameter. It is flexible, bends easily and resists most corrosive elements that attack copper cable. • Cost The raw materials for glass are plentiful, unlike copper. This means glass can be made more cheaply than copper. Market Outlook India optical fiber cables (OFC) market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 17% through 2023.
