Sericulture (Tasar Silk): Project Opportunities in Jharkhand

PROFILE:

Sericulture is an agro-based industry. It involves rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk, which is the yarn obtained out of cocoons spun by certain species of insects. The major activities of sericulture comprises of food-plant cultivation to feed the silkworms which spin silk cocoons and reeling the cocoons for unwinding the silk filament for value added benefits such as processing and weaving. Silk is a fine strand of fiber that is a solidified secretion produced by certain caterpillars to encase themselves in the form of cocoons. India is second largest producer of silk. Sericulture industry is looking out for the developments of young age silk worm rearing or chawki rearing. Care of silk worms start from the stage of procurement of silk worm eggs from the grainage itself. Silk worm eggs are distributed to the farmers for commercial rearing when active development of embryo is in progress. The important aspect of young silkworm rearing management are a suitable separate rearing house or room, well maintained mulberry garden with assured irrigation facilities. Sericulture has emerged as a virtual lifeline and a profitable employment avenue for villagers in Maoist-affected areas in India's eastern Jharkhand. Under the aegis of the Jharkhand state industrial department, farmers are beginning to rear silkworms.

RESOURCES:

Jharkhand, much like Chattisgarh and Uttaranchal, is endowed with adequate forest cover. These forests are home to two species of trees -Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna) & Asan (Terminalia Tomentosa) which are breeding ground for the moth which produces the cocoon from which Tasar yarn is reeled. Jharkhand's forest department is also planning to encourage planting of Arjuna trees in place of the traditional Acacia or Eucalyptus trees. Tussar Food plants are available over an area of 9 lakh hectares. The Singhbhum and Santhalpargana regions are the main silk producing centres in the State. The State is promoting this activity through 28 pilot project centres situated in different areas. Each rearer can rear on an average 200 eggs or Disease Free Laying (DFLs) so the annual demand of commercial seed or egg is of 130 lakh. There are three types of seeds or eggs – Nucleus, Basic seed and Basic seed multiplied to commercial seed.

GOVERNMENT RESOURCES:

Tasar culture is a backbone for Tribal development, and the Government of India, through the Central Silk Board and different State Governments have initiated several developmental and welfare measures for the tribal welfare through it. Jharkhand's forest department is also planning to encourage planting of Arjuna trees in place of the traditional Acacia or Eucalyptus trees. Jharkhand Sericulture Development Institute (JSDI) and Jharkhand Silk Technical Development Institute (JSTDI) are being strengthened to give an impetus to this sector. During the year 2010-11, it is proposed to rear 2.35 lakh tasar nucleus DFLs, 16 lakh of tasar basic DFLs and 96 lakh of commercial DFLs through seed and commercial rearers in the State. It is proposed to be benefited 40,000 -50,000 Tasar farmers through Tasar seed production and its rearing during the year.

Steel Industry

PROFILE:

Steel Industry is a booming industry in the whole world. India’s economic growth is contingent upon the growth of the Indian steel industry. Consumption of steel is taken to be an indicator of economic development. While steel continues to have a stronghold in traditional sectors such as construction, housing and ground transportation, special steels are increasingly used in engineering industries such as power generation, petrochemicals and fertilisers. Indian Steel Industry is more than a century old. India has now emerged as the eighth largest producer of steel in the world with a production capacity of 35MT. Almost all varieties of steel is now produced in India. India has also emerged as a net exporter of steel which shows that Indian steel is being increasingly accepted in the global market. The growth of the steel industry in India is also dependant, to a large extent, on the level of consumption of steel in the domestic market. Steel consumption is significant in housing and infrastructure. In recent years the surge in housing industry of India has led to increase in the domestic demand for steel.

RESOURCES:

Jharkhand emerges as hub for steel companies. The state is endowed with deposits of Iron Ores of both, Hematite & Magnetite. The Hematite deposits are mainly located in the West Singhbhum District and have a resource base exceeding 3700 Million Tonnes. These have been explored only in pockets by large industry houses in their lease hold. There is a very good scope of enlarging this resource base by further exploration. The Magnetite Deposits are located in the East Singhbhum, Latehar & Palamu districts. They comprise lenticular ore bodies as well as Schist rocks with 80 to 36% magnetic. The exploration of these bodies is yet to be taken up. The existing steel mills are sourcing their iron ore (Hematite) from West Singhbhum. The Magnetite ore is being used in heavy media coal washeries & paints. Tata Steel's largest plant is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, with its recent acquisitions; the company has become a multinational with operations in various countries. If the interest shown by all the companies, big and small, in Jharkhand's iron ore deposits translates into reality, the state will produce more than half the total steel in India. First Iron & steel factory  is located at Jamshedpur and Largest Steel plant in Asia is Bokaro steel plant.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

Under the new industrial policy, iron and steel has been made one of the high priority industries. Price and distribution controls have been removed  as well as foreign direct investment up to 100% (under automatic route) has been permitted.  The Trade Policy has also been liberalized and import and export of iron and steel is freely allowed with no quantitative restrictions on import of iron and steel items. Tariffs on various items of iron and steel have drastically come down since 1991-92 levels and the government is committed to bring them down to the international levels.  With the abolishing of price regulation of iron and steel in 92, the steel prices are market determined. The policy devises a multi-pronged strategy to achieve these targets with following focus areas; removal of supply constraints especially availability  of critical inputs like iron ore; improve cost competitiveness by expanding and strengthening the infrastructure in roads, railways, ports and power; increase exports; meet the additional capital requirements by mobilizing financial resources; promote investments by removing  procedural delays. In addition the policy also addresses challenges arising out of environmental concerns, human resource requirements, R&D, volatile steel prices and the secondary sector.

Bread Plant (Semi–Automatic) - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue

Bread is a staple foodstuff, which is made and eaten in most countries around the world. Bread products have evolved to take many forms, each based on quite different and distinctive characteristics. Over the centuries craft bakers have developed our traditional bread varieties using their accumulated knowledge as to how to make best use of their available raw materials to achieve the desired bread quality. In some countries the nature of bread making has retained its traditional form while in others it has changed dramatically. The proliferation of bread varieties derives from the unique properties of wheat proteins to form gluten and from the bakers' ingenuity in manipulating the gluten structures formed within the dough. The rubbery mass of gluten with its ability to deform, stretch, recover shape and trap gases is very important in the production of bread and all fermented products. Of all the cereals, wheat is almost unique in this respect. Bread is most consumable wheat-based bakery product. It contains high nutritive value. They are easy to digest and compact in size, therefore, its consumption is increasing day by day. Indian bakery industry is spreaded over all small scale; large scale and house hold sectors. Bakery products in India are now in common use and are no more exclusive to a few households or classes of performs. Even then, unlike advanced countries where breads are considered basic essentials of a household budget, in India the element of capacity to pay "continues to play a significant role. The outlay on bread, thus shares the character of "discreationary" expenditure rather than expenditure on basic is applicable. Thus, due to demand it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. Industrial fasteners have a vital contribution for the growth of almost all sectors of industry. It is a wonderful manifestation which joins & secures materials together for any productive uses. A fastener is a connective mechanism that mechanically joins or affixes two or more objects together. A bolt is an externally threaded fastener designed for insertion through holes in assembled parts, and is normally intended to be tightened or released by torquing a nut. A nut is a type of hardware fastener with a threaded hole. Nuts are almost always used opposite a mating bolt to fasten a stack of parts together. The two partners are kept together by a combination of the friction of their threads, a slight stretch of the bolt, and compression of the parts. High tensile nuts and bolts find wide application in joining part where continuous rotation and wear and tear of the nuts and bolts occurs. As the nuts and bolts are subjected to variable stress in a dynamic condition, there is every likelihood that these fasteners can be failed at any instant causing situations like catastrophe. For the above purpose, nuts and bolts are manufactured from alloy steels having high tensile strength and resistant to continuous wear and tear. In construction, connectors between structural members bolted connections are used when it is necessary to fasten two elements tightly together, especially to resist shear and bending, as in column and beam connections. Threaded metal bolts are always used in conjunction with nuts. Thus, due to demand it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. Cattle Feed - Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics, Cost of Project

The principal feed resources for animal consumption in the country are crop residues like straws of wheat, rice and other cereals and stovers, which are very poor in feed value. Even these are in short supply. These are supplemented to some extent by relatively better quality fodders like cultivated leguminous and non-leguminous fodder grasses and concentrates. The latter are formulated largely from agro-industrial by-product and forest wastes and small quantities of low-grade cereals with the present stock of feed and fodder resources available in the country, it is impossible to meet the nutrient requirements of even the present day low-producing cattle and buffaloes. Such a situation is bound to aggravate difficulties in the feeding of better producing livestock such as cross bred lows in exploiting their full genetic potentiality for early growth, better reproduction and higher milk production. Foods are the basic need of every one, similarly feed for cattle’s is also very important and necessary as well. Without this, no one can live as well as good nutritive meal increase the productivity as well as the growth of an animal. Thus, the requirement of good cattle feed is always exists and it will further increase with the increase in population of cattle’s. Therefore, it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. Egg Powder - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Egg is a highly nutritious product. Eggs are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. The poultry sector has made tremendous progress in the last decade. It has grown into an organized and highly productive industry. Fresh eggs have a very limited shelf life. To improve the shelf life and for ease of storage and usage egg powder is very convenient. It is quite stable at room temperature and can be stored over longer period. The manufacture of egg powder is an important segment of egg consumption. Egg powder is one of the most common products in poultry industry in the country. Egg is one of the most versatile and near perfect foods in nature. It is rich in protein, amino-acids, vitamins and most mineral substances, the yolk and white components are all of high biological value and are readily digested. They are known to supply the best proteins besides milk. The egg processing operation separates eggs into different kinds of egg products: egg white, egg yolk, whole egg and several mixes i.e. by adding sugar or salt. The pasteurized liquid egg is either packed as a final product or, in case of egg powder production; it goes via pipelines into a spray dryer plant. Therefore it is a good project to invest. Polyethylene Wax - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Layout

Waxes are among the oldest worked materials used by humans. Their value as versatile construction materials ("man's first plastic") was discovered very early. Today, waxes are used mostly as additives and active substances. The use of waxes is expected to increase in the future because of their generally favorable toxicological and ecological properties. The word "wax" usually refers to a variety of organic substances that are solid at ambient temperature but become free-flowing liquids at slightly higher temperatures. The chemical composition of waxes is complex, but normal alkanes are always present in high proportion and molecular weight profiles tend to be wide. The main commercial source of wax is crude oil but not all crude oil refiners produce wax. "Mineral" wax can also be produced from lignite. Plants, animals and even insects produce materials sold in commerce as "wax." Polyethylene is made in a polymerization reaction by building long molecular chains comprised of ethylene monomers, mostly by using catalysts. The type and nature of the catalysts are of great influence on the polymerization. As catalysts became more efficient, the polyethylene products became purer and more versatile and the production process became simplier and more efficient. Demand for polyethylene wax in India will go up in tune with the performance of the application sector. In view of the versatile applications of the product in diversified sector, the demand for PE wax is likely to go up steadily in the coming years. Considering the Indian demand and export opportunities, PE wax project can be favourably viewed in India for investment.

Paint Industry (Decorative Paint & Acrylic Emulsion Paint)

Paint is any liquid, liquefiable, or mastic composition that, after application to a substrate in a thin layer, converts to a solid film. It is most commonly used to protect, color, or provide texture to objects. Paint can be made or purchased in many colors—and in many different types, such as watercolor, synthetic, etc. Paint is typically stored, sold, and applied as a liquid, but dries into a solid. The binder is the film-forming component of paint. It is the only component that must be present if the binder material is suitable for application. Many binders are too thick to be applied and must be thinned. The type of thinner varies with the binder. The thinner is also called the vehicle, because it makes it possible to transfer the binder to the surface with a brush, roller or sprayer. Components listed below are included optionally, depending on the desired properties of the cured film. Paint can be applied as a solid, a gaseous suspension (aerosol) or a liquid. Techniques vary depending on the practical or artistic results desired. The decorative coatings have various applications such as interior and exterior house paints, primers, sealers, varnishes and stains. Industrial paints and coatings are used by several industries, including machinery manufacturing, automotive, and consumer goods. Based on their formulation, industrial paints and coatings can be segmented into four categories: water-based, solvent-based, powder, and UV-based.
