Gas & Petroleum: Project Opportunities in Gujarat

PROFILE:

The Oil Industry is a very important industry in the world and a lot depends on the price of the oil and it has been observed that whenever the oil prices increase the price of various products also increases. Oil and gas sector is one of the key catalysts in fuelling the growth of Indian economy. With a 1.2 billion population and an economy that has consistently at approximately 8 per cent annually, India's energy needs are increasing fast, warranting a robust demand for oil and natural gas in the country. India has emerged as the 5th largest refining country in the world, accounting for 4 per cent of the world's refining capacity. India exported 50 million tonnes (MT) of refined petroleum products during 2010-11. With our refining capacity increasing further, this figure is likely to touch about 70 MT by 2014, making India one of the world major exporters of petroleum products.

RESOURCES:

Gujarat State is rich in the hydrocarbon resources and is the largest on land producer of oil and gas in country. Gujarat contributes about 18% of country’s total crude oil production. Similarly it contributes about 11% of country’s total gas production. If we compare on land crude production then it is almost 50% of crude and 40% of natural gas from the Gujarat State. Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPC) is an oil and gas exploration company in Gujarat, India. It is India's only State Government-owned oil and Gas Company with the Government of Gujarat holding approximately 95% equity stake. GSPC was incorporated in 1979 as a petrochemical company. Today GSPC has become a vertically integrated energy company, excelling in a wide gamut of hydrocarbon activities across India. The largest gas grid will generate opportunities for transmission and distribution of natural gas to domestic and industrial users. Three LNG terminals coming up in the state will provide the fuel for growth. Refineries and petrochemical complexes in operation, invites investment in downstream projects.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

The oil ministry has empowered state-run exploration firms ONGC and Oil India to choose customers for gas produced from small fields where output is less than 0.1 million standard cubic meters per day, which would reduce bureaucratic delays and help companies generate revenue expeditiously. Oil India Limited (OIL), a Government of India Enterprise, under the administrative set-up of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is engaged in the business of exploration, production and transportation of crude oil and natural gas. The growing demand for crude oil and gas in the country and policy initiative of Government of India towards increased E&P  activity, have given a great impetus to the Indian E&P industry raising hopes of increased exploration. The government in order to increase exploration activity approved the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) in March 1997 which would level the playing field in the upstream sector between private and public sector companies in all fiscal, financial and contractual matters. There will be no mandatory state participation through ONGC/OIL nor there did any carry interest of the government.   In order to increase the exploration and thereby enhance the production of oil and gas in the country the Government of India liberalized the hydrocarbon sector. With the announcement of the liberalization policy in the hydrocarbon sector by Govt. of India for the oil and gas. Pursuant to the signing of PSC many private Exploration and producing Companies started the petroleum operations in the State and thereby the activities in the hydrocarbon sector have increased. In order to cope up with the increasing activities Government of Gujarat created the Office of Directorate of Petroleum to monitor various activities of exploration and exploitation of oil and gas, their production and royalty paid thereon by various organizations in the State of Gujarat. Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPC) is an oil and gas exploration company in Gujarat, India. It is India's only State Government-owned Oil and Gas Company with the Government of Gujarat holding approximately 95% equity stake. Today GSPC has become a vertically integrated energy company, excelling in a wide gamut of hydrocarbon activities across India.

Waste management: Project Opportunities in Gujarat

PROFILE:

Waste utilization, recycling and reuse plays a major role in limiting resource consumption and the environmental impact of waste. Recycling is an integral part of any waste management system as it represents a key utilization alternative to reuse and energy recovery (Waste-to-Energy). Which option is ultimately chosen depends on the quality, purity and the market situation. Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asian countries including India. The lack of technical and financial resources and the regulatory control for the management of hazardous wastes in the past had led to the unscientific disposal of hazardous wastes in India, which posed serious risks to human, animal and plant life.

RESOURCES:

Gujarat is an ideal location for an effective functioning of the projects, which depend on reasonable volume of generated wastes, waste characteristics, public acceptance and potential network of the industry for the zero discharge of the waste. Gujarat is characterized by wide spread industrial establishments, robust infrastructure development and stable socio-political environment. The industrial development has remained and is the robust backbone of Gujarat’s economical and industrial prospects and a driving force of a future economic growth. In a meantime, the rapid industrial development throughout the state has lead resulted in generating abundant industrial wastes which need proper care in pollution mitigation and recycling in and around urban centres of Ahmedabad, Bharuch, Surat etc.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES:

National policy on waste management is set out in the October 1998 policy statement on waste management - Changing our Ways. It outlines the Government's policy objectives in relation to waste management, and suggests some key issues and considerations that must be addressed to achieve these objectives. The policy is firmly grounded in an internationally recognised hierarchy of options, namely prevention, minimisation, reuse/recycling, and the environmentally sustainable disposal of waste which cannot be prevented or recovered.

Setting Up of Planetarium. Profitable Investment Opportunity in Astronomy Education Sector.

Setting Up of Planetarium. Profitable Investment Opportunity in Astronomy Education Sector. A planetarium (plural planetaria or planetariums) is a theatre built primarily for presenting educational and entertaining shows about astronomy and the night sky, or for training in celestial navigation. A dominant feature of most planetaria is the large dome-shaped projection screen onto which scenes of stars, planets, and other celestial objects can be made to appear and move realistically to simulate the complex motions of the heavens. Planetarium is a complex optical instrument. It projects images of the planets, moon, and stars onto a domed ceiling, creating an accurate representation of the nighttime sky. The room or building in which such an instrument is housed is also called a planetarium. A planetarium is a place where you can go to see what the night sky looks like. Planetariums have a large room with a dome-shaped ceiling and many seats. A special projector in this room can shine images on the domed ceiling and show you the stars and other objects in the night sky. Many planetariums also have telescopes which you can look through and exhibits about space. Planetarium, theatre devoted to popular education and entertainment in astronomy and related fields, especially space science, and traditionally constructed with a hemispheric domed ceiling that is used as a screen onto which images of stars, planets, and other celestial objects are projected. A planetarium is a place where you can go to see what the night sky looks like. A special projector in this room can shine images on the domed ceiling and show you the stars and other objects in the night sky. Many planetariums also have telescopes which you can look through and exhibits about space. Uses A planetarium is a specially-designed theater with a domed ceiling that is able to project a realistic image of the night sky indoors. First used to educate about stars, planets, and constellations, planetariums today are unique immersive facilities often used to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning and to cross learning disciplines into art, culture, and history. Planetarium is de?ned as the theatre in which a star projector is used to recreate the night sky. In recent years, special effects projectors, sound systems, and video projectors have also supplemented the star projector. Traditionally planetariums were constructed primarily to promote astronomy education for the students and residents of a region. The modern planetarium, being a multi-media theater, now offers insights into many fields from art and history to geology and biology. With the introduction of digital full dome video, and the ability to synchronize it with opto-mechanical projectors and to control it easily, the entertainment capabilities of the theater have been greatly enhanced and have joined the education activities in many domes. For this reason, planetariums can now be found not only in schools and museums, but also in department stores, shopping centers, theme parks, airports, hotels, and totally new types of venues. ? A planetarium for School Education ? A planetarium for Both Education and General public ? A planetarium for Profit Purpose ? A planetarium for Private Companies ? A planetarium for Expositions and Events Market Outlook Generally, Planetarium Businesses provides services like an eye-catching experience with images, videos, slides, visual effects, animations, narration, and music that will show the wonders of the universe or galaxy. A digital projector projects from the middle of this room which flashes models on the dome’s ceiling and shows the different objects, images of stars, planets, and other celestial objects with a meaningful storyline. Some planetariums also have telescopes which people can look through and exhibits about space and other things. Recent trends show that digital domes may emerge as an essential element in future to broadcast data, digital information, knowledge, art, and performances across a scale of developments in education, science, entertainment field. In India, there are several existing planetariums in the major cities like; Birla Planetarium (Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata), Nehru Planetarium (Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore), Tara Mandir (Porbandar), etc. All are famous for their infrastructure and way of visualization. In addition to the modernization of the technological system, the planetarium is changing with better facilities like a new gallery. Therefore, with advanced technology, the planetarium business has a great scope in future. Recently technology has completely transformed the way of how information or knowledge will get presented, planetariums of all sizes are emerging with the development in the recent market trends. The main objective of a planetarium is to improve the knowledge and recognition of astronomy and related sciences through the show, performance, promotion of astronomical research, domestically and globally to improve the academic, financial growth. Production of Wood Fibers (Used in MDF).

Production of Wood Fibers (Used in MDF). Investment Opportunities in Wood and Wood Based Products. Wood fibers (also spelled wood fibers, see spelling differences) are usually cellulosic elements that are extracted from trees and used to make materials including paper. The end paper product (paper, paperboard, tissue, cardboard, etc.) dictates the species, or species blend that is best suited to provide the desirable sheet characteristics, and also dictates the required fiber processing (chemical treatment, heat treatment, mechanical "brushing" or refining, etc.). Wood fibers are made of cellulose got from the xylem vessels in plants, especially trees. Other plants providing fibers include straw, bamboo, cotton, hemp, and sugar cane. Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming it into panels by applying high temperature and pressure. MDF is generally denser than plywood. It is made up of separated fibres, but can be used as a building material similar in application to plywood. It is stronger and much denser than particle board. Composite forest products, or engineered wood, refer to materials made of wood that are glued together. In the United States, roughly 21 million tons (21.3 million metric tons) of composite wood are produced annually. The more popular composites materials include plywood, blockboard, fiberboard, particleboard, and laminated veneer lumber. Most of these products are based on what were previously waste wood residues or little used or non-commercial species. Very little raw material is lost in composites manufacture. Medium density fiberboard (MDF) is a generic term for a panel primarily composed of lignocellulosic fibers combined with a synthetic resin or other suitable bonding system and bonded together under heat and pressure. The panels are compressed to a density of 0.50 to 0.80 specific gravity Additives may be introduced during manufacturing to improve certain properties. Because fiberboard can be cut into a wide range of sizes and shapes, Long (bast) Fibers, Short (core) Fibers. The surface of MDF is flat, smooth, uniform, dense, and free of knots and grain patterns, making finishing operations easier and consistent. The homogenous edge of MDF allows intricate and precise machining and finishing techniques. Trim waste is also significantly reduced when using MDF compared to other substrates. Improved stability and strength are important assets of MDF, with stability contributing to holding precise tolerances in accurately cut parts. It is an excellent substitute for solid wood in many interior applications. Furniture manufacturers are also embossing the surface with three-dimensional designs, since MDF has such an even texture and consistent properties. There are three different types of MDF particle board, fiber board and laminated board. Uses Wood fibers from aspen and spruce have been used for filler and reinforcement of polystyrene. The wood fibers used were in the form of refined wood. In order to improve compatibility of wood fibers with polymeric matrices, fibers have been modified by copolymerization with styrene. The Kant hate method of grafting employing the ferrous?hydrogen peroxide catalytic system was used for fiber treatment. The following properties of composites have been measured: elastic?modulus, tensile strength, and energy absorbed at break. Related Projects: - Wood and Wood Products Benefits ? Is an excellent substrate for veneers ? Some varieties are less expensive than many natural woods ? Consistent in strength and size ? Shapes well ? Stable dimensions (less expansion and contraction than natural wood) ? Takes paint well ? Takes wood glue well ? High screw pull-out strength in the face grain of the material The Manufacturing Process:- Advanced technology and processing have improved the quality of fiberboard. These include innovations in wood preparation, resin recipes, press technology, and panel sanding techniques. Advanced press technology has shortened overall pressing cycles, while anti-static technology has also contributed to increased belt life during the sanding process. ? Wood preparation ? Curing and pressing ? Panel sanding ? Finishing Market Outlook Wood fiber is renewable and based on agricultural products, and the composite materials we come up with would biodegrade after their service life without harming the environment Greater use of wood fibers in producing composites also could be a boost to the paper industry by providing an important new use for wood pulp, since paper is a raw material. The global wood fiber market is witnessing technological advancements. Companies are constantly striving to develop new and better ways to manufacture these fiberboards. Development of new manufacturing processes of wood fiber and applications is estimated to propel the market. The textile industry is at its boom presently, and it plays a vital role in every economy. The industry also contributes sustainably in a nation’s trade. As the industry is growing at a global level, the demand for natural as well as synthetic fibers in the industry is also increasing. In addition, certain MDF products also opt for the use of additives to impart auxiliary characteristics. Medium density fiberboard provides a homogeneous density profile that allows incorporation of precise and intricate finishing leading to a high-quality end products Furthermore, MDF provides superior strength and stability to the structures due to its high density structure, which leads to a high product consumption. Growing usage of recycled wood fibers for the production of MDF is expected to emerge as one of the promising trends propelling the medium density fiberboard panel’s market growth. In addition, increase usage of low emission adhesives and resins also results in a heightened demand for the product. Thus, rise in the production of eco-friendly MDF products is expected to drive the industry in near future. Stable Bleaching Powder

Bleaching process are those which remove color from natural or artificial products. In early times bleaching was done by mechanical means and bleached goods were available only to rich. Today the bleaching to textile, paper and other materials constructed from natural fibers is done largely by the chemical agents and bleached articles are available to all. Bleaching powder is used to whiting or removing the natural color of textile fibers, yarns, wood pulp, paper and other products by chemical reaction and also is an additive in the scouring powder preparation as germicide. Its storage life is short, especially in warm climates. Because of the unstability of bleaching powder at higher temperatures, a more stable bleaching compound was sought. Bleaching powder stirred into water, soda ash is added, the sludge is allowed to settle and the clear solution of sodium hypochlorite is used as a source of bleach. As liquid chlorine became more easily available many laundries prepared their own sodium hypochlorite solution a practice that persisted. There is demand of bleaching powder increase by 5-7% per annum. Now bleaching powder used largely in the water pollution controlling agent.
