Best Business Opportunities in Bangladesh - Identification and Selection of right Project, Thrust areas for Investment, Industry Startup and Entrepreneurship Projects

Bangladesh representing a potential market in itself (and potential access to the much larger South Asian market) Bangladesh also offers considerable potential as a base for labor-intensive manufacturing. Low-cost labour is the factor most often cited by the private as well as the public sector in Bangladesh when asked to name the most attractive features of the country. In addition to its large population and low-cost labour, Bangladesh offers major reserves of natural resources, in particular natural gas.

Bangladesh is a moderate, secular and liberal democracy with immense potentials. It has earned global reputation in poverty alleviation, primary school enrollment, women empowerment, family planning, infant, under-five mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio reduction, lowering number of communicable diseases and child immunization.

Bangladesh is in the process of a transition from a predominantly agrarian economy to an industrial and service economy. The private sector is playing an increasingly active role in the economic life of the country, while the public sector concentrates more on the physical and social infrastructure. Bangladesh has great ambitions that offer great opportunities in the energy, Agriculture, transportation and environmental sectors for the best domestic as well as international enterprises.

Business Sectors and Thrust Areas in Bangladesh

Agriculture Sector

Bangladesh is well known for its progress in human development. The economy of Bangladesh is primarily dependent on agriculture. About 84% of the total population lives in rural areas and are directly or indirectly engaged in a wide range of agricultural activities. Bangladesh has the essential attributes for successful agri-based industries namely rich alluvial soil, a year-round frost-free environment, available water and an abundance of cheap labor. Increased cultivation of vegetables, spices and tropical fruits now grown in Bangladesh could supply raw materials to local agribusiness industries for both domestic and export markets.

Agriculture plays a key role in Bangladesh’s economic growth. Bangladesh’s rural economy, and specifically agriculture, have been powerful drivers of poverty reduction in Bangladesh.

Power and Energy Sector

Bangladesh has experienced rapidly rising energy consumption over the past two decades. This trend will intensify further in the coming years as economic growth and development efforts accelerate—Bangladesh strives to become a middle-income country by 2021.

Electricity is the major source of power for most of the country's economic activities. Noncommercial energy sources, such as wood fuel, animal waste, and crop residues, are estimated to account for over half of the country's energy consumption. Bangladesh has small reserves of oil and coal, but very large natural gas resources. Commercial energy consumption is mostly natural gas (around 66%), followed by oil, hydropower and coal.

Planned and appropriate use of electricity is fundamental to the economic progress of Bangladesh. There is a huge demand for electricity for all sectors of the economy including agriculture, industry and service sectors. Other than household use of electricity in rural areas, the scale of demand for electricity in agricultural, SMEs and income generating activities is going up.

Textile Industry

From spinning to weaving, from knitwear to leisurewear and high street fashions, the textiles and clothing industry is Bangladesh’s biggest export earner. This rapidly growing sector of the Bangladeshi economy offers a unique competitive edge that supports profitable expansion into new strategic markets.

As global demand for cheap clothing rises rapidly, Bangladesh’s position as the second biggest exporter in the world continues to hold strong, which is mainly due to its large population and low labour costs. Bangladeshi manufacturers will be forced to enhance productivity levels in order to maintain their competitive advantage.

The phenomenal growth in the readymade garment (RMG) sector in the last decade created many new factories and employment opportunities. Yet, even with these challenges ahead, as global trade picks up in the coming years, demand for Bangladeshi garments is also expected to increase, thereby prompting much-needed economic growth for the developing state. Enormous investment opportunities exist in this sector. In the RMG industry demand for fabric significantly exceeds local supply and so is currently being met by imports.

The importance of the textile industry in the economy of Bangladesh is very high. The growing trend in the textile and the RMG sector means that Bangladesh is favorably positioned to appeal to foreign investors.

Sector highlights:

  • Low-cost and high-quality products that are produced on time, reliably and very competitively with a skilled work force;
  • A unique regional location for expansion into key Asian and other markets;

Jute Sector

Jute is a vital sector from economical, agricultural, industrial, and commercial point of view in Bangladesh. Once upon a time jute was called the ‘Golden Fibre’ of Bangladesh. It is one of the cheapest and the strongest of all natural fibers and considered as fibre of the future. Jute is second only to cotton in world's production of textile fibers. The jute trade is centered mainly on Bangladesh and the Indian State of West Bengal. The major producing country of jute is Bangladesh, due to its natural fertile soil. Being a major player in the long history of jute trade and having finest natural fiber, Bangladesh has always had an advantage in raw jute trading. Bangladesh is still the largest producer and exporter of raw jute in the world. After the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent state the contribution of the industry to the nation's GDP and in the field of employment declined (in absolute and relative terms). But Still the jute industry must be said to be playing an important role in the national economy: it provides direct employment to about 150 lakh people even after the closure of 40 per cent of its production capacity, pays over Tk 100.00 crores for insurance and similar amount as cost of internal transport of raw jute, earns about Tk 150.00 crores worth of foreign unchanged and consumes 30 lakhs of raw jute, thereby benefiting millions of jute cultivators.

Carbon Fiber - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Carbon fibers have been under continuous development for the last 50 years. The properties of carbon fibers, such as high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion, make them very popular in aerospace, civil engineering, military, and motorsports, along with other competition sports. However, they are relatively expensive when compared to similar fibers, such as glass fibers or plastic fibers. Carbon fibers are usually combined with other materials to form a composite. When combined with a plastic resin and wound or molded it forms carbon fiber reinforced polymer (often referred to as carbon fiber) which has a very high strength-to-weight ratio, and is extremely rigid although somewhat brittle. However, carbon fibers are also composited with other materials, such as with graphite to form carbon-carbon composites, which have a very high heat tolerance. Carbon fiber is most notably used to reinforce composite materials, particularly the class of materials known as carbon fiber or graphite reinforced polymers. Non-polymer materials can also be used as the matrix for carbon fibers. Due to the formation of metal carbides and corrosion considerations, carbon has seen limited success in metal matrix composite applications. Reinforced carbon-carbon (RCC) consists of carbon fiber-reinforced graphite, and is used structurally in high-temperature applications. The fiber also finds use in filtration of high-temperature gases, as an electrode with high surface area and impeccable corrosion resistance, and as an anti-static component. European companies consume 46% of the quantity of carbon fiber used worldwide in the aerospace and defence sector while their counterparts in the USA use a further 33%. Furthermore, 86% of the carbon fiber used in the area of sport/leisure is processed in China, a result of pricing pressure and the fact that this sector is now primarily dominated by mass production methods. The future of Carbon Fiber is very bright, with vast potential in many different industries. As a whole it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest.

Tobacco Cultivation and Processing(E.O.U.) - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

In modern tobacco farming, Nicotiana seeds are scattered onto the surface of the soil, as their germination is activated by light, then covered in cold frames. In the Colony of Virginia, seedbeds were fertil with wood ash or animal manure (frequently powdered horse manure). Coyote Tobacco (N. attenuata) of the western U.S. requires burned wood to germinate. Seedbeds were then covered with branches to protect the young plants from frost damage. These plants were left to grow until around April. Today, in the United States, unlike other countries, Nicotiana is often fertilized with the mineral apatite to partially starve the plant for nitrogen, which changes the taste of the tobacco. Now a days pan masala has very good market demand due to customer's habit. There is very good scope of pan masala. Basically pan masala is a substitute of tobacco products. Users of tobacco products largely converted to use pan masala. Tobacco is consumed mainly by the adult population and about 70 percent of world population is over 15 years of age. Therefore, it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest.

Cotton Cultivation & Cotton Yarn Manufacturing (E.O.U.) - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Plant Layout

‘‘Cotton’ the white gold is one of the most important commercial; crops playing a key role in the economical, political and social affairs of the country. India, today is the third largest producer of cotton in the world. About one third of total crop is irrigated and rest is rainfed. The cotton plant forms a deep and extensive network of roots hence concentrated tillage is essential for sound growth. The heavier the soil selected the greater the importance of adequate aeration, tilth and mould. Light and medium heavy soils are preferred and tillage is less deep. Therefore traditional and simple methods are still practiced in many regions and hoes are still in use although ploughing is more general. The textile industry is classified into (i) textile mills comprising composite and spinning mills in the organised sector; (ii) small powerloom and handloom units in the decentralised sector; (iii) khadi-based units; (iv) manmade and synthetic fibre and spinning units; (v) knitting units; and (vi) made-ups (garments). The industry is made up of small-scale, non-integrated spinning, weaving, finishing and apparel-making units as well integrated composite mills. Precipitated Silica from Rice Husk Ash - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

Rice husk is an agricultural residue easily available in rice producing countries. India is a major rice producing country, and the husk generated during milling is mostly used as a fuel in the boilers for processing paddy, producing energy through direct combustion & or by gasification. The rice husk contains about 75% organic volatile matter & the balance 25% of the weight of this husk is converted into ash during the firing process, is known as rice husk ash (RHA). This RHA in turn contains around 85%–92% amorphous silica. Silica is one of the valuable inorganic chemical compounds. It can exist in gel, crystalline and amorphous forms. It is the most abundant material in the earth’s crust. Silica is the major constituent of rice husk ash. With such a large ash content & silica content in the ash it becomes economical to extract silica from the ash, which has wide market & also takes care of ash disposal. Precipitated Silica (also called particulate silica) is composed of aggregates of ultimate particles of colloidal size that have not become linked in massive gel network during the preparation process. Precipitated Silica soluble silicate solutions are of fine controlled particle size & porous in nature. Precipitated silica powders have a more open structure with higher volume than dried pulverized gels. Precipitated silica is used as filler for paper & rubber as a carrier & diluents for agricultural chemicals, as an anti caking agent, to control viscosity & thickness and as a cleansing agent in toothpastes & in cosmetics. Precipitated silica also finds its applications as anti caking agents in food industry & as thermal insulators. Precipitated silica is perhaps the best not black filler and reinforcing agent used in rubber industry especially for the production of silicon rubber. Precipitated silica market is fragmented and major portion of the global market share is constituted by regional players. Therefore, precipitated silica market has high price sensitivity. Moreover low capital investment has increased the threat of new entrants in the market mainly in the developing economies. There has been surge in investment by major players in the emerging economies. Thus, Precipitated Silica from Rice Husk Ash as an entrepreneur, offers an exciting opportunity to you.

A restaurant is simply a place to have food outside your home. It is smaller in size than a hotel as it does not have accommodation facilities. It is an establishment that serves the customers with prepared food and beverages to order, to be consumed on the premises. The term covers a multiplicity of venues and a diversity of styles of cuisine. The one and only feature of a restaurant is the kind of food and/or beverages it serves to its customers. There are all sorts of restaurants in all cities of the world ranging from budget to very expensive ones where international cuisine is served and the ambience is great. Some restaurants also serve alcoholic drinks for which they obtain a license from the administration. Some are specialized restaurants where a particular cuisine is served such as Chinese, Italian, Thai, Japanese, and so on. Restaurants range from unpretentious lunching or dining places catering to people working nearby, with simple food and fixed menu served in simple settings at low prices, to expensive establishments serving expensive speciality food and wines in a formal setting. In the former case, customers usually wear casual clothing. In the latter case, depending on culture and local traditions, customers might wear semi-casual, semi-formal, or even in rare cases formal wear. Typically, customers sit at tables, their orders are taken by a waiter, who brings the food when it is ready, and the customers pay the bill before leaving. INDIA is one of the world’s largest producers as well as consumers of food. Changing food consumption patterns of India’s population is expected to not only increase consumption volume in absolute terms to US$230 billion but also shift people’s diet qualitatively towards richer, processed foods, which will force increased commodity requirements. Cattle Feed - Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics, Cost of Project

The principal feed resources for animal consumption in the country are crop residues like straws of wheat, rice and other cereals and stovers, which are very poor in feed value. Even these are in short supply. These are supplemented to some extent by relatively better quality fodders like cultivated leguminous and non-leguminous fodder grasses and concentrates. The latter are formulated largely from agro-industrial by-product and forest wastes and small quantities of low-grade cereals with the present stock of feed and fodder resources available in the country, it is impossible to meet the nutrient requirements of even the present day low-producing cattle and buffaloes. Such a situation is bound to aggravate difficulties in the feeding of better producing livestock such as cross bred lows in exploiting their full genetic potentiality for early growth, better reproduction and higher milk production. Foods are the basic need of every one, similarly feed for cattle’s is also very important and necessary as well. Without this, no one can live as well as good nutritive meal increase the productivity as well as the growth of an animal. Thus, the requirement of good cattle feed is always exists and it will further increase with the increase in population of cattle’s. Therefore, it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest. Bottling of Country Liquor (Automatic Plant) - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

Rectified spirit, methylated spirit, denatured spirit is the product of Ethyl alcohol or Ethanol. Ethyl alcohol has been described as one of the most exotic synthetic oxygen-containing organic chemicals because of its unique combination of properties as beverage, solvent, germicides an antifreeze, a fuel, a depressant and especially because of its versatility as a chemical intermediate for other organic chemicals. As a beverage ethanol (Ethyl alcohol) had been prepared and used long ago by the Egyptians. For hundreds of years alcoholic beverages have been taxed to generate government revenue all over the world. When ethanol emerged as a key industrial raw material the alcohol tax was recognized as a burden to many essential manufacturing industries. To achieve this denaturants were added to ethyl alcohol to make them unfit for drinking. The Denatured alcohol are either completely denatured alcohol or specially denatured alcohol. Methylated spirit is also denatured alcohol available freely without any government restriction for industrial use. It is also cheap as compared to alcoholic beverages. Country liquor has been made from rectified spirit and is available at after double price. Country liquor from rectified spirit bottled and sealed is a most popular from product being extensively used by common mass everywhere. It is used in winter, summer and all seasons as a cheap and affordable intoxicant most by low & middle class people. Alcoholic and non-Alcoholic beverages are directly consumed in hotels, bars, restaurants, and other places. These are consumed in every seasons, and everyday. People become happy and cheerful after drinking the beverages. Extra neutral alcohol is mainly used to make a very high quality potable alcohol used by liquor industries for the production of branded alcoholic drinks. (eg. canes, vodkas, gins, rums, liqueurs and aperitifs). Ethanol (Ethyl Alcohol or Grain Alcohol) is commonly used in alcohol. Denim Cloth - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Denim is a sturdy cotton warp-faced twill textile in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. This twill weaving produces the familiar diagonal ribbing of the denim that distinguishes it from cotton duck. It is a characteristic of most indigo denim that only the warp threads are dyed, whereas the weft threads remain plain white. As a result of the warp-faced twill weaving, one side of the textile then shows the blue warp threads and the other side shows the white weft threads. This is why blue jeans are white on the inside. The indigo dyeing process, in which the core of the warp threads remains white, creates denim's fading characteristics, which are unique compared to every other textile. The denim will usually fade, which is considered desirable by some people. During the process of wear, fading will usually occur on those parts of the article that receive the most stress. In a pair of jeans, these parts include the upper thighs, the ankles, and the areas behind the knees.Most dry denim is made with 100% cotton and comes from several different countries. Denim Fabrics Denim is a strong, durable fabric constructed in a twill weave with indigo and white yarns. The blue/indigo yarns are the lengthwise or “warp” threads (parallel to the selvage). The white yarns run across the fabric width (the weft threads). Denim is traditionally woven with 100%-cotton yarn; it’s blended with polyester, to control shrinkage and wrinkles, and Lycra to add stretch. Today, denim has many faces. It can be printed, striped, brushed, napped and stonewashed, and the indigo. The market for luxury denim with distinct fashion overtures is estimated at Rs 5,000 upwards has already started. Any entrepreneur venture into this field will be successful. Few Indian Major Players are as under • Aarvee Denims & Exports Ltd. • Century Textiles & Inds.
