Best Business Opportunities in Bangladesh - Identification and Selection of right Project, Thrust areas for Investment, Industry Startup and Entrepreneurship Projects

Bangladesh representing a potential market in itself (and potential access to the much larger South Asian market) Bangladesh also offers considerable potential as a base for labor-intensive manufacturing. Low-cost labour is the factor most often cited by the private as well as the public sector in Bangladesh when asked to name the most attractive features of the country. In addition to its large population and low-cost labour, Bangladesh offers major reserves of natural resources, in particular natural gas.

Bangladesh is a moderate, secular and liberal democracy with immense potentials. It has earned global reputation in poverty alleviation, primary school enrollment, women empowerment, family planning, infant, under-five mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio reduction, lowering number of communicable diseases and child immunization.

Bangladesh is in the process of a transition from a predominantly agrarian economy to an industrial and service economy. The private sector is playing an increasingly active role in the economic life of the country, while the public sector concentrates more on the physical and social infrastructure. Bangladesh has great ambitions that offer great opportunities in the energy, Agriculture, transportation and environmental sectors for the best domestic as well as international enterprises.

Business Sectors and Thrust Areas in Bangladesh

Agriculture Sector

Bangladesh is well known for its progress in human development. The economy of Bangladesh is primarily dependent on agriculture. About 84% of the total population lives in rural areas and are directly or indirectly engaged in a wide range of agricultural activities. Bangladesh has the essential attributes for successful agri-based industries namely rich alluvial soil, a year-round frost-free environment, available water and an abundance of cheap labor. Increased cultivation of vegetables, spices and tropical fruits now grown in Bangladesh could supply raw materials to local agribusiness industries for both domestic and export markets.

Agriculture plays a key role in Bangladesh’s economic growth. Bangladesh’s rural economy, and specifically agriculture, have been powerful drivers of poverty reduction in Bangladesh.

Power and Energy Sector

Bangladesh has experienced rapidly rising energy consumption over the past two decades. This trend will intensify further in the coming years as economic growth and development efforts accelerate—Bangladesh strives to become a middle-income country by 2021.

Electricity is the major source of power for most of the country's economic activities. Noncommercial energy sources, such as wood fuel, animal waste, and crop residues, are estimated to account for over half of the country's energy consumption. Bangladesh has small reserves of oil and coal, but very large natural gas resources. Commercial energy consumption is mostly natural gas (around 66%), followed by oil, hydropower and coal.

Planned and appropriate use of electricity is fundamental to the economic progress of Bangladesh. There is a huge demand for electricity for all sectors of the economy including agriculture, industry and service sectors. Other than household use of electricity in rural areas, the scale of demand for electricity in agricultural, SMEs and income generating activities is going up.

Textile Industry

From spinning to weaving, from knitwear to leisurewear and high street fashions, the textiles and clothing industry is Bangladesh’s biggest export earner. This rapidly growing sector of the Bangladeshi economy offers a unique competitive edge that supports profitable expansion into new strategic markets.

As global demand for cheap clothing rises rapidly, Bangladesh’s position as the second biggest exporter in the world continues to hold strong, which is mainly due to its large population and low labour costs. Bangladeshi manufacturers will be forced to enhance productivity levels in order to maintain their competitive advantage.

The phenomenal growth in the readymade garment (RMG) sector in the last decade created many new factories and employment opportunities. Yet, even with these challenges ahead, as global trade picks up in the coming years, demand for Bangladeshi garments is also expected to increase, thereby prompting much-needed economic growth for the developing state. Enormous investment opportunities exist in this sector. In the RMG industry demand for fabric significantly exceeds local supply and so is currently being met by imports.

The importance of the textile industry in the economy of Bangladesh is very high. The growing trend in the textile and the RMG sector means that Bangladesh is favorably positioned to appeal to foreign investors.

Sector highlights:

  • Low-cost and high-quality products that are produced on time, reliably and very competitively with a skilled work force;
  • A unique regional location for expansion into key Asian and other markets;
  • Privileged trading status with Canada, the EU and Japan;

Jute Sector

Jute is a vital sector from economical, agricultural, industrial, and commercial point of view in Bangladesh. Once upon a time jute was called the ‘Golden Fibre’ of Bangladesh. It is one of the cheapest and the strongest of all natural fibers and considered as fibre of the future. Jute is second only to cotton in world's production of textile fibers. The jute trade is centered mainly on Bangladesh and the Indian State of West Bengal. The major producing country of jute is Bangladesh, due to its natural fertile soil. Being a major player in the long history of jute trade and having finest natural fiber, Bangladesh has always had an advantage in raw jute trading. Bangladesh is still the largest producer and exporter of raw jute in the world. After the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent state the contribution of the industry to the nation's GDP and in the field of employment declined (in absolute and relative terms). But Still the jute industry must be said to be playing an important role in the national economy: it provides direct employment to about 150 lakh people even after the closure of 40 per cent of its production capacity, pays over Tk 100.00 crores for insurance and similar amount as cost of internal transport of raw jute, earns about Tk 150.00 crores worth of foreign unchanged and consumes 30 lakhs of raw jute, thereby benefiting millions of jute cultivators.

Premixed Tea and Coffee with Sugar and Milk Powder - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunies

Coffee and tea are important in any office. Working professionals feel the need for these beverages intermittently during their hectic schedule. Increasing labor costs and the need for instant availability have brought in vending machines. With this in mind, many companies have installed beverage vending machines to provide their employees refreshments. Rapid urbanization is resulting in a lifestyle that is enhancing the time spent Out of Home working (in offices and institutions), waiting (in railway stations, airports, bus terminals) or playing (in malls, theaters, parks, beaches etc.). Many Indians therefore are beginning to consume their daily requirements of refreshments outside of their homes. In this case there is a great need for a convenient, safe and consistent product delivery mechanism for tea and coffee that account for more than 70% of the demand for beverages refreshment out of home. This is the role that is being currently performed by the vending pre-mix suppliers. Vending pre-mixes are a mixture of Tea/coffee, Sugar and dairy whiteners that are mixed with heated water through a machine at the point of dispensing to provide consumers with a safe and hygienic product untouched by human hands. The demand of premix tea and coffee will increase very rapidly so there will be wide scope for new entrepreneurs to venture into this project

GOOD FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR ENERGY/PROTEIN BAR PROJECT - Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Production Schedule

GOOD FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR ENERGY/PROTEIN BAR Good nutrition practices help to fuel physical activity, in addition to sustaining normal bodily functions and the growth, development and repair of human body tissue. For those serious about their sport or exercise it is a well-accepted concept that diet can significantly affect performance. In order to achieve the quality of your training and maximize adaptations, it is essential that you consume a diet that matches the demands placed upon the body. They are often promoted as a quick snack, a meal replacement, or a supplement for your workout. Energy bars are also an excellent method of replenishing muscle energy stores after sport. For best results eat an energy bar 30-45 minutes before a race or workout or eat small amounts during your race or ride. Energy bars are being marketed heavily and a multitude of brands are available in supermarkets, drug stores, and health food stores. Energy bars are convenient, travel well, and contains reasonable amounts of fat, saturated fat, and sodium. Many are a good source of high quality protein without the cholesterol and saturated fat of high fat animal protein sources. Energy bars are easy to bring along with you and will not melt if they are exposed to heat all day. Energy bars have been part of the outdoor scene since the Crusades in the Middle Ages-and possibly before. Crusaders tucked an energy bar called the pan forte (a mix of flour, honey, shortening, nuts, and dried fruit) into their tunics to give a lift during long marches. However nutrition experts suggest no more than two to four per day for a moderate level of activity, supplementing a diet consisting largely of whole foods, whose complex blends of vitamins and nutrients cannot be duplicated in processed foods. Energy bars: a dietary supplement? US Congress defined the term "dietary supplement" in the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994. A dietary supplement is a product taken by mouth that contains a "dietary ingredient" intended to supplement the diet. The "dietary ingredients" in these products may include: vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, and substances such as enzymes, organ tissues, glandular, and metabolites. Dietary supplements can also be extracts or concentrates, and may be found in many forms such as tablets, capsules, soft gels, gel caps, liquids, or powders. They can also be in other forms, such as a bar, but if they are, information on their label must not represent the product as a conventional food or a sole item of a meal or diet. Whatever their form may be, DSHEA places dietary supplements in a special category under the general umbrella of "foods," not drugs, and requires that every supplement be labeled a dietary supplement. The "new dietary ingredient" in a dietary supplement? The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994 defined both of the terms "dietary ingredient" and "new dietary ingredient" as components of dietary supplements. In order for an ingredient of a dietary supplement to be a "dietary ingredient," it must be one or any combination of the substances like : ● A vitamin, ● A mineral, ● A herb or other botanical, ● An amino acid, ● A dietary substance for use by man to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake (e.g., enzymes or tissues from organs or glands), or A concentrate, metabolite, constituent or extract.. Surgical cotton is also known as absorbent cotton or cotton wool. It is mainly used for medical purposes in hospitals, nursing homes, dispensaries at home (for first aid) etc. because of its high fluid absorbency. It is better known among masses as absorbent cotton. Absorbent cotton or surgical cotton is used at each level from medical to corporate and also individual level. This item is regulated under drug control act. Hence, it should be manufactured to meet its requirements for quality control standards. Apart from used as a dressing material, it is also used for padding for items of clothing, quilts etc. The absorbent cotton should be chemically inert and soft to give maximum protection and should not cause irritation. These properties can be achieved by manufacturing the product as per standard method of manufacture. The raw cotton is processed by series of steps which render the cotton hydro-phallic in character and free from external impurities needed to be fit for use in surgical dressings and personal hygiene. The demand for surgical cotton is directly related with the hospital, dispensaries, nursing homes, health care center etc. Progressive increase in health amenities offered by government and coming up of new hospital and health care center in private sector, even small towns are contributing to the growth of absorbent cotton industry. Government hospitals and nursing homes are the largest consumers of surgical cotton. Good Prospects for Grain Based Alcohol (Distillery)- Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Cost of Project

Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol or drinking alcohol, is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid. It is a psychoactive drug, best known as the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages and in thermometers. In common usage, it is often referred to simply as alcohol. We provide this chemical with a great degree of purity, & available for a wide range of industrial applications in industrial sectors such as pharma, flavour and fragrances, healthcare and food industries etc. Ethanol has widespread use as a solvent of substances intended for human contact or consumption, including scents, flavorings, colorings, and medicines. In chemistry, it is both an essential solvent and a feedstock for the synthesis of other products. It has a long history as a fuel for heat and light and also as a fuel for internal combustion engines. Neutral alcohol is used for the production of white spirit such as gin and vodka but also as a base for a wide range of flavoured alcoholic beverages. The production of neutral alcohol from malt, grape, apple or sugar has considerably increased over the last few years. There may be local alcohol taxation advantages. This is available in a ready-to-pitch, active form, with proven cost effectiveness versus propagation. Now some grain based distilleries are also coming in India. The scope for grain base alcohol is good, because molasses is not available easily through out the year in comparison of grains. Fuel Ethanol could be blended in various proportions in Petrol usually 5 to 10% by volume. In Brazil, ethanol is added 24% by volume in gasoline (petrol). In U.S.A. Ethanol E10 (absolute ethanol 10% by volume) and ethanol E 85 (absolute ethanol 85% by volume) are popular in flexible fuel vehicles, which can run on either gasoline or ethanol. Fuel Ethanol can be used as on Oxygenate in Petrol. It reduces emission of carbon monoxide by taking combustion to completion. It replaces tetraethyl lead or MTBE, from contaminating surface water. Ethanol maintains the carbon cycle of nature, reducing the greenhouse effect. It is made from renewable sources of material like agricultural products., etc., molasses and prevents depletion of limited sources like fossil fuels. It employees renewable source of energy through a natural route and it reduces dependents on imported crude. As concerns about our nation dependence on foreign oil increase, and awareness on environmental impacts of petroleum increases, the interest in alternative fuels like ethanol is emerging. In many ways ethanol is an ideal transportation fuel. It is better for the environment than petroleum, it is domestically produced, and its use supports farmers and rural economies. By switching to ethanol fuels and advanced vehicle technologies, fleet owners are leading the way to both energy security and cleaner air. The oil companies in India have decided to have the blending units located region wise instead of centralizing at the refinery itself for optimizing transportation cost of petrol. Since the project is located at Salempur, which is about 40 kms from Mathura where the nearest refinery is available, irrespective of locating the blending units at region wise or at refinery, the transportation cost will be minimal. The fuel ethanol manufacturing is a sunrise industry with an excellent potential for growth as it is being introduced first time in India. In U.S.A. and Brazil fuel ethanol is in use for over 20 years and proven technology is already available. Being one of the first unit to start the manufacturing of fuel ethanol MML will be have the momentum of early start. Liquor industry has always remained under strict governmental control in terms of capacity creation, distribution, and taxation. While overall public perception spells restraint, it is the symbol of high life even in puritan India. The industry posses a dilemma to the state, borne by the temptation of large revenues, on the one hand, and the embarrassment in giving encouragement to drinking, on the other. The over Rs 250 bn liquor industry sells around 400 mn cases annually. A large peg of this - 65% - is whisky, followed by brandy and gin at 13%, rum at 17% while the white spirits account for 3% of the market share. Of this, the Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) accounts for Rs 78 bn (86 mn cases) with whisky alone constituting for 95%. Besides, there is a large 200-mn cases market of low-priced country liquor. Indian spirit market also consumes branded country liquor worth Rs 125 bn and unbranded country liquor worth Rs 50 bn. India has a small market for wines too, about Rs 500 mn a year. Around 70,000 cases of champagne and 4,000 cases of cognac are also sold annually in the Indian market.
