A Ripple That Reaches Every Tier-2 Supplier in Tamil Nadu.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Unit Approval Committee (UAC) of <a href=\"https:\/\/mepz.gov.in\/\">MEPZ Special Economic Zone <\/a>cleared 11 investment proposals of \u20b9443.11 crore on one sitting in August. These 2,427 projects are projected to create direct employment in Tamil Nadu, Andaman, and Puducherry. On average, every direct job created in a Special Economic Zone supports 3\u20135 provider or indirect jobs that support the anchor business. This one MEPZ approval could indirectly help 7,000 to 12,000 livelihoods in the MSME manufacturing corridor of the state.<\/p>\n<p>The three anchor projects are a good story. German industrial conglomerate ZF Group&#8217;s \u20b93.5-lakh-crore subsidiary ZF Industrial Technology Coimbatore Pvt Ltd is investing \u20b9336.13 crore in a new plant at Aspen Park Infra, Coimbatore. Global electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessminutes.in\/2026\/08\/mepz-sez-approves-investments-of-over-443-crores-in-august-creating-2427-jobs.html\">Sanmina-SCI India Pvt Ltd <\/a>has passed the stage of getting approval for a plant in SIPCOT Hi-Tech SEZ, Oragadam, Sriperumbudur with a capacity to create 1,350 jobs. And Visionet Systems is infusing \u20b911.31 crore into ELCOT SEZ, Vilankurichi, Coimbatore. Three projects. Three districts. The Tamil Nadu SEZ manufacturing cluster is in the middle of a serious buildout; and that buildout requires local MSME suppliers, fabricators, service providers and component makers to operate.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Access_Complete_Business_Plan_Tamil_Nadu_Business_Investment_Opportunities\"><\/span>Access Complete Business Plan: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niir.org\/profile-projects-reports\/profiles\/best-business-opportunities-in-tamil-nadu-identification-selection-right-project-thrust-areas-for-investment-industry-startup-entrepreneurship-projects\/z,,92,0,a\/index.html\">Tamil Nadu Business &amp; Investment Opportunities<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Supply_Gap_That_Large_Units_Cannot_Fill_Themselves\"><\/span><strong>The Supply Gap That Large Units Cannot Fill Themselves<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As with most startups, Sanmina-SCI&#8217;s first-generation founders had a lot to learn, and one of the most important lessons is that a company such as the manufacturer of circuit boards and electronics assemblies for OEMs worldwide simply won&#8217;t have its own structural packaging materials, precision-machined fasteners, cable harnesses, printed labels, or industrial cleaning chemicals, etc. These are directly related to vendor sourced inputs and are almost always sourced locally to ensure quick delivery and low transport cost. This Oragadam-Sriperumbudur-Irungattukottai belt alone has more than 200 Tier-1 and Tier-2 manufacturers but according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/investingintamilnadu.com\/DIGIGOV\/TN-pages\/msme.jsp?pagedisp=static\">Guidance Tamil Nadu data<\/a>, there are 57 lakh MSMEs in the state which contributes to 8.4% of national GDP in the economy which is the second largest in India. Even at that density, the procurement managers at large SEZ units constantly say that they are experiencing difficulties finding precision components, specialty packaging, and industrial consumables locally.<\/p>\n<p>This is aggravated by the import dependency issue. Currently, India imports a large portion of industrial fasteners, specialty adhesives, and precision sheet-metal subassemblies from China, Taiwan and South Korea. Areas of domestic substitution identified by the Ministry of Commerce are ancillary manufacturing. Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, and Ranipet have the lowest Tier-2 vendor capacity at the district level compared with the demand being tapped through SEZs. In June alone, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2276811\">MEPZ cleared \u20b9710 crore in investments projecting 15,424 jobs<\/a> \u2014 including a \u20b9514.72 crore footwear manufacturing facility for TKG Taekwang India in Tiruchirappalli and a \u20b9115.20 crore semiconductor-adjacent unit in Tambaram. Cumulatively, the <strong>MEPZ SEZ exports<\/strong> stood at \u20b92.22 lakh crore in FY26, making MEPZ one of the highest-value SEZ jurisdictions in the country. That export base generates enormous backward linkage demand \u2014 and most of it remains unmet by local MSMEs.<\/p>\n<p>There are three tailwinds aiding this move. First, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme of the Central government for electronics has already attracted a committed investment of \u20b920,600 crore, and cumulatively, produced electronics worth \u20b911.62 lakh crore. Tamil Nadu has 38 approved manufacturing units under PLI alone, and each of these will require a value chain to be established around them, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiagazette.com\/news\/279201390\/maharashtra-tops-pli-auto-scheme-with-66-manufacturing-units-tamil-nadu-has-38\">PLI-Auto data reveals. Second, Tamil Nadu <\/a>CM MK Stalin introduced the Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme under which investments of over \u20b930,000 crore and employment of 60,000 are planned, the first of its kind in the country. Third, diversification in the global supply chain is further driving multinationals to look at India as an alternative to single sourcing.<\/p>\n<p>MSME founder can request for the subsidy of up to \u20b935 lakh as margin money in manufacturing units with project cost of up to \u20b950 lakh for rural and special category borrowers through the PMEGP (PM Employment Generation Programme).
