Introduction: Where the Real Railway Logistics India<\/strong><\/p>\n

When people speak of the Indian Railways, the talk generally does not move beyond trains, tracks and big infrastructural projects. From the viewpoint of an entrepreneur, however, the greatest opportunities are not in making locomotives or laying rails. They exist in the ecosystem that operates around railway stations, freight terminals, warehouses and last-mile logistics.<\/p>\n

According to the Indian Railways Annual Report 2023-24, Indian Railways carried a total of approximately 1,588 million tonnes of freight and while earning more than 1.65 lakh crore rupees from freight operations, also earned more than 70,000 crore rupees from passenger earnings. This is a huge movement of goods and people that is placing huge stresses on storage and handling systems, distribution and delivery.<\/p>\n

As a result, Indian Railways is gradually evolving itself from a transport utility into a nationwide logistics backbone, which is creating practice-oriented and scalable start-up opportunities that do not entail direct involvement in train operations.<\/p>\n
