Badminton is one of the most played games in the world. It was invented by the Duke of Beaufort, in Gloucestershire in his country estate, in 1873. It got its name, “Badminton” from the name of his estate. Originally it was also called “Poona” due to its popularity among Britishers residing in Poona or Pune, a city in Maharashtra state in India.

Badminton has been played in Eurasia for a long time. It was first called “Battledore” as it was the original name for the Racquet.

Badminton, as its own game, was invented in British India as a variant of shuttlecock or battledore. But no one can surely say what date it was, when the game was invented. Some theories it was invented by the Duke of Beaufort in his country estate in Gloucestershire. Some theories it originated from Poona, a city in India. One thing we know for sure is that Badminton came into existence somewhere in the late 1860’s or early 1870’s. The rules for Badminton were created in Poona, or as we call it now Pune. Even though these rules have changed a lot since it was invented, many rules made in Poona still stay up on the rule board.

It was first invented in 1583 AD in Italy. Originally it was made of solid wood and animal intestines also called “Catgut.” The solid wood was used to make the frame and the “Catgut” was used to make the strings. Now the solid wood is replaced by Titanium alloys, Carbon fibres or ceramic glasses. But wood is still used for real tennis, xare or more commonly known as Basque Pelota and rackets. We have also replaced Catgut with nylon, polyamide, and other similar substances.

So here was a brief overview of Badminton and Rackets. Now let’s move on to how they’re manufactured.

Manufacturing a Badminton Racket.

Before Badminton Rackets are manufactured, we need to gather all the important components for it. It is important to find the right material. The whole game of Badminton depends on the quality of the rackets used by players and that’s why it becomes an important issue to find the right material to make the game more enjoyable.

Racket’s frames were originally cut out of wood. But Badminton is a game of speed and wood being heavy slowed down the strikes and made them weak. Not only that, wood was weak as a frame as it was easy to break and got destroyed easily. To solve this issue. Wood was replaced with Aluminium, an alloy that is light and strong. Now Aluminium is good, but it can be better! Now many manufacturers use carbon fibre composite material or Graphite. Carbon Fibre Material and Graphite is lighter and stronger than Aluminium.

Racket heads come in two shapes.

  1. Oval Shaped
  2. Isometric shaped

The Difference between this shape is that Isometric is a little squares, than an Oval shaped head. It is also easier to play with the isometric head than the oval head, due to the larger surface area.

Originally humans used Animal guts as strings. But to increase the speed and life of the racket we now use synthetic strings. Aside from being stronger and more firm than animal guts, synthetic strings are also a lot cheaper. It saves a few bucks on production cost by using Synthetic materials, such as nylon.

Racket grips are also made out of Synthetic toweling materials, such as Polyurethane. This helps the grip of the player around the racket stay strong and firm and the racket doesn’t fall off the player hand. It also makes the handle comfortable in hand.

Now once you join them together you have an “A” grade quality Badminton Racket.
