The Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers has approved proposal of setting up of Plastic Park in Deoghar District, Jharkhand. The project will be set up at cost of Rs.120 Crores in an area of 150 acres. Moreover, it will also set up Central Institute for Plastic Engineering & Technology (CIPET) and Plastic Recycling.

Department of Industries, Mines and Geology, organizations like Industrial Area Development Authorities, Jharkhand State Khadi and Village industries Board, Jharkhand Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (JIIDCO), JSMDC, Single Window Society and JHARCRAFT are making significant contribution in industrialisation of the State and some of them are cash surplus. Government is committed to provide international standard infrastructure and facilities in the industrial areas and estates managed by the Industrial Area Development Authorities.

Key Facts

The plastic park will manufacture range of polymer products including woven sacks, Moulded furniture, water tanks, bottles, pipes mosquito nets, etc. It will have great potential for attracting investment for setting up ecosystem for plastic industry and generate employment opportunities for the local populace.

The project is likely to provide direct employment generation to about 6000 people and indirect employment to over 30000 people. Jharkhand Government will facilitate land and building infrastructure for this project and also to set up Central Institute for Plastic Engineering & Technology (CIPET) alongside the park.

Significance

The plastic industry is growing at rapid pace and polymer consumption in India will double from current 10 million metric tonnes to 20 million metric tonnes by 2022. The Plastic Park, CIPET and Plastic Recycling unit at Deoghar will build an ecosystem that will encourage setting up of Plastic Industry, thereby making it ‘Plastic Hub’ in the future.

The minister also said a plastic recycling unit will be established with an investment of Rs 3.50 crore in the district, the second unit in India after Guwahati.

He also assured Jharkhand government that the central government is ready to establish a Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET) Centre in Deogarh, provided the state government allocates land or building.

Briefing media, Kumar said, “We have sanctioned a plastic park in Deogarh. It will be set up in 150 acres with an investment of Rs 120 crore”.

The park will have units that will manufacture woven sacks, moulded furniture, plastic crates, HDPE plastic combs, water tanks, bottles, pipes, small containers, toys, mosquito nets and leno bags among others
