Construction & Building Materials

The construction industry is the second largest industry in India after agriculture. It accounts for about 11% of India’s GDP. It makes significant contribution to the national economy and provides employment to large number of people.Construction constitutes 40% to 50% of India's capital expenditure on projects in various sectors such as highways, roads, railways, energy, airports, irrigation etc. There are mainly three segments in the construction industry like real estate construction which includes residential and commercial construction; infrastructure building which includes roads, railways, power etc; and industrial construction that consists of oil and gas refineries, pipelines, textiles etc.Building material is any material which is used for a construction purpose. Many naturally occurring substances, such as clay, sand, wood and rocks, even twigs and leaves have been used to construct buildings. Apart from naturally occurring materials, many man-made products are in use.

The feasibility of infrastructure projects in ports, roads, airports and railways with private-sector majority ownership is already evident. The government also expects a substantial increase in the share of private sector investments in infrastructure from 19 per cent in the Tenth Plan to around 30 per cent in the Eleventh Plan. The biggest increase in private participation is expected in roads (from 5 per cent to 36), ports (47 per cent to 74 per cent) and railways (less than 1 per cent to 20 per cent). The Planning Commission estimates that the remaining infrastructure investments will be funded by the central and state government. According to a study by ASSOCHAM, the burgeoning Indian construction industry, currently worth $70 billion, will rise to US$120 billion by 2010.

The Commonwealth Games - 2010 in New Delhi have thrown mega opportunities for Building Material Companies, Construction Equipments & Technologies companies. The Govt. of India has permitted FDI up to 100% for development of integrated townships in India last year. India is now the second most favored destination for FDI, behind China. A large and growing middle class population of more than 300 million people, a changing life style, better cost of living etc is growth drivers for this sector.

The Indian construction industry, an integral part of the economyand a conduit for a substantial part of its development investment, is poised for growth on account of industrialization, urbanization, economic development and people's rising expectations for improved quality of living in the coming years.

CEMENT PROJECT

The general outlook for the cement industry is fulfilled the situation in a large body of Indian Industry, with a market rise in production failing to generate adequate profitability. In some quarters, the mini-cement plant has been following, since it opens up possibilities of exploiting small deposits of limestone in difficult and thereby contributes to the socialist pattern on the other hand. There has been a bright scope in setting up mini-cement plant. Indian Government is providing a scheme of soft loans to current units wishing to convert from wet to dry. With the combination of all these new development the industry may with luck play its full role in the national programme

Prestressed Concrete Sleepers

Prestressing is the process of applying a load to a structure deforming, so that it will withstand a work load more effectively or deflect less. Prestressed concrete is that in which internal stresses are introduced to such a magnitude and distribution that the tensile stresses resulting from the service loads are encountered to a desired degree. The prestresses are commonly introduced by tensioning the tensions. Steel wire having a very high tensile strength, called prestressed wires and used in prestressed concrete by embedding it under tension in the concrete members can be come smaller, span greather distances between supports and support greater loads. There are two methods of making prestressed concrete articles namely pre-tensioning and post tensioning. Trains are a very important necessity of our daily life. Lakhs of people travel from here to there and thousands of tonnes goods are shifted from one place to another. You can come in this project. There is very good scope for new investment.

Bricks From Fly Ash

Bricks may be made from a number of different kinds of materials, but they must usually possess (can be capable of developing) a certain amount of plasticity. Fly ash is one of them. Fly ash is an industrial waste of thermal power stations using pulverized coal. It is finely divided residue, resulting from the combustion of pulverized coal in the boiler, which is transported by the flue gases and subsequently collected by means of electrical or mechanical precipitators. Fly ash being a puzzolanic material forms cementations products in conjunction with time and thus found use in civil Engineering works. In advanced countries fly ash during the last 2-3 decades. Whereas in this country a very limited use of fly ash has been made hydraulic structures. However very little has been done on the diversified use of lips fly ash viz. in road construction soil slabbing precast block etc. in India the estimated production capacity of all the bricks industries is about 900 million which is for below the market demand and the shortfall is likely to increase manifold in future years during which a large increase in the building activity is anticipated. It is well recognized that traditional method of hand moulding cannot cope with the heavy demand. There is very good scope for new investment. You can venture into this units.

Sand lime Bricks Manufacturing

In the construction industry in India, while efforts are being made to introduce new technologies to expedite the work process and streamline it, the materials incorporated in production have not seen much upgradation. Sand lime bricks are used for the all building construction. These bricks do not have any effects on motors materials or concrete or upon materials used for damp-proof courses, flashing, ties or faslenings provided that the sand or other aggregate used is free from soluble salt and does not have a high alkali content. Sand lime bricks have allowed co-efficient of variation of strength, thus enabling the designing of brickwork with a low factor of safety. By the use of high strength sand lime bricks in place of clay-bricks or stone masonry, wall thickness can be reduced even for multistoried buildings. It has good scope according to selected area where brickfield is required.

Crushed Stone

Crushing of stone is physical process applied over the available natural stone to reduce size. Crushed stone should be hard enough to withstand heavy load or should not react with acid or alkali it is used in road construction, civil construction as supporting material in railway tracks etc. Due to rapid urbanization or industrial development demand for crushed stone is increasing rapidly. There is good scope for new entrepreneurs who wants to set up their own stone crushing unit.

Admixtures for Concrete

Admixtures are materials added to the concrete before or during its mixing, with a view to modify one or more of the properties of concrete in the plastic or hardened state. It is used to refundor accelerate the setting time of concrete by a few hours. It also improves the cohesion of poorly graded concretes. Its demand and supply gap is nearly equal. So, a new comer may approach to start the production with a quality conscious and competitive market.

Bitumen

It is non crystalline solid or viscous material having adhesive properties, which is completely soluble in carbon disulfide. It is generally brown or black in colour, electrical resistance, solubility or resistance to solvent action and resistance to oxidation under various conditions. It is derived from petroleum either by natural or refinery processes. Due to its low cast and readily availability it is used not only for road construction and maintenance but also for engineering fields has good demand due to its range of applications. New entrepreneurs can enter in this field.

Cement From Rice Husk

Rice husk gives a good quality of pozzolanio ash containing silica, which is considered a good substitute for cement. It is prepared by first burning husk to form ash and then mixing it with lime and grinding it to a very fine powder. Cement is a very important building material, but today it is very much short in supply. With the increase in constructional activities its demand will also increase. The export demand is estimated to be 3 percent of the total production. The new entrepreneur can enter in this project.

Alumina to Aluminium and manufacturing of profiles

Aluminium is the most abundant metal in the world. When it is alloyed with other material like magnesium, is employed in structures for air craft, automobiles, for electrical conductors etc. Global Aluminium demand is estimated to rise at a compounded annual growth rate 5% in the next couple of years, as compared with a growth rate of 33% over the past decade. The Indian aluminium industry is going through an expansionary phase in order to meet the increasing demand. So, it will be profitable for the new entrants to invest in this project.
