Rice is the leading food crop in the developing world in terms of total world production. It represents the staple food for almost two-thirds of the world’s population. Rice grain comprises the edible rice caryopsis of fruit enclosed in a protective covering, the hull (husk). During the milling process, rough rice is milled to produce polished edible grain by first subjecting to dehusking and then to the removal of brownish outer bran layer known as whitening. Finally, polishing is carried out to remove the bran particles and provides surface gloss to the edible white portion. The duration of growth for cultivated rice varies from 80 to 280 days and can be generally divided into early (80–130 days), intermediate (130–160 days) and late (160+days) maturing cultivars. In the rice plant, three growth phases can be distinguished: the vegetative phase – when the plant begins to partition assimilation to the developing panicle; the reproductive phases with panicle (flowering) development; and the ripening or grain-filling phase which begins after anthesis and ends at maturation. Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is an ancient favorite table fruit of tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. A pitaya or pitahaya is the fruit of several cactus species. "Pitaya" usually refers to fruit of the genus Stenocereus, while "pitahaya" or "dragon fruit" always refers to fruit of the genus Hylocereus. Dragonfruit stems are scandent (climbing habit), creeping, sprawling or clambering, and branch profusely. It prefers free draining soil with sandy to clay loam types, 5.3 to 6.7 pH and high organic matter. However, Pitaya is also grown successfully in sandy soils. Pitaya is shallow rooted with most roots concentrated on top 15- 30 cm soil depth. Dragon Fruit is low in cholesterol content and has no unhealthy cholesterol fats that harm the human body. It consists of a small amount of healthy monounsaturated fats because the fruit contains many seeds in its edible part. It is also best known for its cleansing properties of the digestive system. The fibers in the fruit help to get better bowel movements. It is also a good solution for constipation. Dragon fruit helps to decrease the irritation of joints, so it is called as an anti inflammatory fruit. Wine, Serbat and Jam from Dragon Fruit is gaining market in India. In modern steelmaking and casting plants, steel is produced either in a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) or in an electric arc furnace (EAF). In a BOF, hot metal and scrap are blown by oxygen gas with a flux addition, such as lime, to remove carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. A modern EAF produces steel by remelting and refining steel scrap and other raw materials, and also uses oxygen gas injection and lime addition. The steel melt with dissolved oxygen thus produced is tapped into a ladle, where it is deoxidized with ferroalloys, Fe-Si, Fe-Si-Mn, and/or metallic aluminum. The deoxidation products, such as silica, mangano silicates, alumina, alumino silicates, aluminates and/or their composites, are largely removed from the melt by flotation. Whenever necessary, the deoxidized melt is further processed in a ladle furnace (LF) to remove any remaining suspended oxide particles (called non-metallic inclusions, or simply inclusions), to lower the sulfur content, and to adjust the melt’s chemistry and temperature. Degassing of steel melt is done in vacuum refining facilities (RH, VAD, or VOD) to decrease hydrogen for crack sensitive grades and/or carbon for ultra low carbon grades to meet customer specifications.
