Waste management: Project Opportunities in Maharashtra

PROFILE:

Waste utilization, recycling and reuse plays a major role in limiting resource consumption and the environmental impact of waste. Recycling is an integral part of any waste management system as it represents a key utilization alternative to reuse and energy recovery (Waste-to-Energy). Which option is ultimately chosen depends on the quality, purity and the market situation. Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asian countries including India. The lack of technical and financial resources and the regulatory control for the management of hazardous wastes in the past had led to the unscientific disposal of hazardous wastes in India, which posed serious risks to human, animal and plant life.

RESOURCES:

There are 250 urban local bodies (ULBs) in Maharashtra which comprises 23 Municipal Corporations, 220 Municipal Councils, 3 Cantonment Boards and 4 Nagar Pachayats. Per capita MSW generation in various towns of the state ranges 100 to 600 gram per day.  For class I cities in Maharashtra, the waste generation rates are in the range of 14 to 63 kg per capita per day, which includes Mumbai having the highest range of 0.63 kg per capita per day (pcpd). The average waste generation rate for the state is estimated as 35 kg pcpd.  As per the projection, the waste quantities are estimated to increase from 6.18 million tons per year in the year 2004 to 8.05 million tons per year in 2011 and 11.77 million tons per year in 2021. In total over 21632.3 tons per day (TPD) of MSW is generated of which around 50% is generated in Mumbai (8500 TPD), Thane (680 TPD), Pune (1740 TPD) and Kalyan (1050 TPD). Compare to other Metropolitan cities in India, MSW generation is highest in Mumbai.  Available data indicates that Waste generated in Maharashtra contains about 55% of Non-biodegradable and 45% biodegradable components.

GOVERNMENT POLICIES

National policy on waste management is set out in the October 1998 policy statement on waste management - Changing our Ways. It outlines the Government's policy objectives in relation to waste management, and suggests some key issues and considerations that must be addressed to achieve these objectives. The policy is firmly grounded in an internationally recognised hierarchy of options, namely prevention, minimisation, reuse/recycling, and the environmentally sustainable disposal of waste which cannot be prevented or recovered.

Beer Plant Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Beer is the world's oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic drink; it is the third most popular drink overall, after water and tea. The production of beer is called brewing, which involves the fermentation of sugars, mainly derived from cereal grain starches—most commonly from malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), and rice are widely used. Most beer is flavoured with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, though other flavourings such as herbs or fruit may occasionally be included. The fermentation process causes a natural carbonation effect, although this is often removed during processing, and replaced with forced carbonation. Among the alcoholic drinks, Beer is quite common and popular in almost every Country of the World. Aluminium fluoride (AlF3) is an inorganic compound used primarily in the production of aluminium. This colorless solid can be prepared synthetically but also occurs in nature as minerals rosenbergite and oskarssonite. Aluminium fluoride is the chemical compound with the formula AlF3. It has the consistency of a white powder. AlF3 is refractory, in strong contrast to the other halides of aluminium. Adding aluminium fluoride to the production process of primary aluminium lowers the consumption of electricity required in the smelting process and thereby considerably contributes to the reduction of production costs of aluminium. Aluminium producers (smelters) are the main users of aluminium fluoride. Aluminium fluoride is used in many industrial processes. It is one of the minor constituents added to the electrolytic cells during the production of metallic aluminium. Aluminium fluoride is used in turning alumina into aluminium. Few Indian Major Players are as under: • Alufluoride Ltd. • Mafatlal Fine Spg. & Mfg. Co. Ltd. • Navin Fluorine Intl. Ltd. • Southern Petrochemical Inds. Corpn. Ltd. • Tanfac Industries Ltd. Market Outlook Aluminum fluoride is white colored or colorless solid powder that can be produced synthetically and is also found in nature with minerals such as rosenbergite. Alumina and hexafluorosilicic acid are among the vital raw materials that go into the production of aluminum fluoride. China is the leading manufacturer of aluminum fluoride across the globe and constitutes significant portion of the global market share. Moreover owing to over exploitation of major raw material sources in China, the production is anticipated to decline in the near future. Diaper (Baby and Adult) and Sanitary Napkins Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities

A diaper (American English) or a nappy (British English) is a type of underwear that allows the wearer to defecate or urinate without the use of a toilet, by absorbing or containing waste products to prevent soiling of outer clothing or the external environment. When diapers become soiled, they require changing, generally by a second person such as a parent or caregiver. Failure to change a diaper on a sufficiently regular basis can result in skin problems around the area covered by the diaper. Diapers are made of cloth or synthetic disposable materials. Cloth diapers are composed of layers of fabric such as cotton, hemp, bamboo, microfiber, or even plastic fibers such as PLA, and can be washed and reused multiple times. Disposable diapers contain absorbent chemicals and are thrown away after use. Plastic pants can be worn over diapers to avoid leaks, but with modern cloth diapers, this is no longer necessary. An adult diaper (or adult nappy) is a diaper made to be worn by a person with a body larger than that of an infant or toddler. Diapers can be necessary for adults with various conditions, such as incontinence, mobility impairment, severe diarrhea or dementia. Adult diapers are made in various forms, including those resembling traditional child diapers, underpants, and pads resembling sanitary napkins (known as incontinence pads). A sanitary napkin, sanitary towel, sanitary pad, menstrual pad, or pad is an absorbent item worn by a woman while she is menstruating, while she is recovering from vaginal surgery, for lochia (post-birth bleeding), after an abortion, or in any other situation where it is necessary to absorb a flow of blood from the vagina. These pads are not to be confused with generally higher absorbency incontinence pads, which are worn by men or women who have urinary incontinence problems or experience stress incontinence. Menstrual pads may be used by some people for this purpose. ? Why is the Demand for Adult Diapers Predicted to Increase? • Growing aging population • Urbanization • Increased awareness of treatment methods for urinary incontinence • Economic affluence • Improvements in the healthcare sector Market Outlook Rising birth rates have ensured that the baby diapers market, growing at a healthy 18-20 per cent year on year, is estimated to reach Rs. 11,964 crore by 2017, with three nations accounting for the massive jump. The diaper market in West Asia and Africa is growing at a fast clip, with babies in these regions expected to use about 8 billion diapers a year by 2017. In India, the baby diaper market is currently pegged at Rs. 1,400 crore. Supported by favourable demographics with 26 million babies born in India every year, the potential is huge. “The diaper market is experiencing a surge in demand for sanitation products. The diaper market in India is growing with more than 20% CAGR from the last seven years. The healthy growth rate is driven by factors such as millions of babies born per year, higher disposable incomes and the increased hygiene awareness of Indian mothers. Global baby diapers market is expected to garner $59.4 billion by 2020. The global baby diaper market covers different types of diapers provided by the manufacturers within the baby diapers. The different types of diapers manufactured around the globe are Cloth diapers, Disposable diapers, Training nappy, Swim pants and Bio-degradable diapers. The global baby diaper market is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 4.1% during the forecast period and is expected to be valued at US$ 70.4 Bn by 2024 end. Among all product type segments in the baby diaper industry, disposable diapers are projected to be the fastest-growing segment over the forecast period (2016-2024). This segment accounts for approximately 49.0% of the global volume of diapers consumed; attributed to the availability of improved raw materials and technological advancements in markets in various regions across the globe. Toughened Glass Manufacturing Plant, Detailed Project Report, Profile, Business Plan, Industry Trends, Market Research, Survey, Manufacturing Process, Machinery, Raw Materials, Feasibility Study, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue, Plant Economics

Toughened or tempered glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the inner surfaces into tension. Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards as plate glass (a.k.a. annealed glass) creates. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury. As a result of its safety and strength, toughened glass is used in a variety of demanding applications, including passenger vehicle windows, shower doors, architectural glass doors and tables, refrigerator trays, mobile screen protectors, as a component of bulletproof glass, for diving masks, and various types of plates and cookware. ? Vacuum Fried Snacks:Vacuum Fried Vegetable Chips (Sweet Potato, Beans and Beetroot)

Vegetable chips (also referred to as veggie chips) are chips or crisps that are prepared using vegetables. Vegetable chips may be fried, deep-fried, dehydrated, dried or baked. Many different root vegetables or leaf vegetables may be used. Vegetable chips may be eaten as a snack food, and may accompany other foods such as dips, or be used as a topping on dishes. In the United States, vegetable chips are often mass-produced, with many brands marketed to consumers. A potato chip or crisp is a thin slice of potato that has been deep fried, baked, kettle-cooked, or popped until crunchy. Potato chips are commonly served as a snack, side dish, or appetizer. The basic chips are cooked and salted; additional varieties are manufactured using various flavorings and ingredients including herbs, spices, cheeses, other natural flavors, artificial flavors and additives. More generally, crisps and chips include savory snack products made from not just potato, but also corn, tapioca, banana, or other cereals, and other root vegetables (e.g., sweet potato and carrot), and other fruits. Mixed Vegetable Chips (Sweet Potato, Pumpkin, Carrot, Taro and Green Beans), mixed fruit chips and beet root chips are processed by a vacuum frying method, the latest technology using the carefully selected raw materials from the best growing regions. Vegetables chips and fruit chips are 100% natural, Low fat, high nutrient, no preservative. Vacuum frying is a reasonably new technology which uses lower pressure and temperature rather than atmospheric deep-fat frying to improve the quality attributes of food products. Future Super parties might feature far healthier snacks if vacuum frying catches in. The technique, which is already used in Asia for items such as seaweed snacks, uses a lower temperature than conventionally fried foods. Vacuum frying reduces the amount of oil the food absorbs when compared to traditional frying methods; consequently, vacuum-fried foods retain more nutrients. Advantages of Vacuum Frying Vacuum fried products has low moisture content (<6%) and low water activity (aW<0.3) (Wongsuwan and Laosuksuwan, 2006). The absence of air during frying may inhibit oxidation including lipid oxidation, enzymatic browning; therefore, the color and nutrients of fried samples can be largely preserved (Tarzi et al., 2011). The products are crispy and retain original colour, taste and odour as of the natural foods. Vacuum frying have some advantages, first it can reduce oil content in the fried product. Second it can preserve natural color and flavors of the product depend to the low temperature and oxygen content during frying process and third it has less adverse effect on oil quality. Likewise vacuum frying is beneficial to some fruits or vegetables with intense odour such as durian. Vacuum fried durian is less objectionable and more convenient to carry when compared with fresh durian. Vacuum frying can be used to fry high sugar fruits and fresh vegetable in order to produce various kinds of snacks. Sugar is burnt before water is removed from the fruits. The products still have high moisture content. Market Outlook Potato chips and crisps are one of the most popular snack foods consumed worldwide. Over the years, the potato chips and crisp market has witnessed substantial growth, turning it into a multibillion-dollar market. However, the potato chips and crisps market is witnessing a shift in consumption patterns, a fluctuation in price of raw materials, and intense competition from substitutes. Manufacturers in the market are expected to meet success by developing newer products and quickly modifying ingredients of existing products to meet changes in consumer demand. The development of newer flavors to meet taste preferences of varied consumers is the key to surviving in the global potato chips and crisps market. The global potato chips market has been segmented by type and taste. By taste, the market is segregated into plain, salted, chili, and flavored chips. The global potato chips market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.3%, during the period 2017-2022, to reach a market value of USD 40.3 billion by 2022. The global potato chips market is also segmented by the distribution channel into super markets/hyper markets, convenience stores, independent retailers, and others. The supermarkets/hyper markets dominated in 2016, with more than 70% market share.
